A quiet night...

Surprised by her affection, Icewhisker sighed happily, slightly purring. He remembered the day of his ceremony, when he confessed his love for the she-cat. He still got no answer about how she felt, but seeing as she didn't bring it up, he took it as a no. Even though this was something he was hoping for, he knew it didn't mean anything. She just cares for me like a queen would care for her kit...or any kit at that... he thought.

Ebonyroot blinked slowly, "Promise me you won't go." She said softly. She took in an released a deep and steady breath, happy to hear his purr. At least she was helping, even a little, whatever the reason was. "I've lost so much, I don't know how I would live on with my life if I lost you too..."

Icewhisker let out a sad sigh. She was toying with his emotions, even though she had no idea what she was doing.

"Please...Ebonyroot...I don't want to go either...but we all have to die sometime..." he meowed, trying to make sure she didn't pull him closer to stopping it. The only solution he could think of to solve it, would be killing Firepaw before she could kill him. He knew it was wrong, and that he could never do it, but he couldn't think of another way.

Ebonyroot shook her head softly. "You're still so young, and still have so much to give to WindClan and the rest of the forest..." she frowned, "If Firepaw wants you, she'll have to go through me first.. You won't die." Sheer stubborness hereditary to ShadowClan gave her the courage to say so and mean it completely. It wouldn't happen.

"There still is Cowpaw...even though I need to train her, I will do my best so she can keep WindClan strong..." he meowed, struggling not to cave in.

I didn't know you had an apprentice! o_o Ebonyroot sniffed, "That's not good enough." she meowed firmly, the smallest ring of her usual self in her voice.

"Don't worry Ebonyroot...everything will be fine..." he meowed, trying to sooth her without subjecting to his other option.

Ebonyroot said nothing and pulled away from him. "Come with me.."

Confused, Icewhisker nodded, ready for many possibilities of what she was going to do.

Ebonyroot smirked and tilted her head to the side. "You don't know what I mean, do you?" It was written all over his face. "To the moonstone to speak with StarClan. No evil, dark forest cat, or nightmare could ever reach you there... and it might give you some peace of mind.." And maybe even a way out of this...

Icewhisker smiled at her consideration, and started padding towards the Highstones slowly.

"Thank you Ebonyroot...you don't know how much your friendship means to me..." he meowed when he looked back to see if she was coming.

"Of course, mouse-brain." Ebonyroot padded ahead on him and flicked him lightly on the nose with the tip of her tail, a little playfulness to try to lighten the mood. "I'll always be your friend, no matter what happens.."

That could mean 2 different things... he thought sadly. Yes he was glad that he had a friend like Ebonyroot, but she didn't have a clue of how much it hurt him when she did thing like what happened only a few moments ago.

"That's good to hear..." he replied.

Ebonyroot caught sight of the Mothermouth and headed up the hills, stopping at the entrance to wait for the tom. She wasn't sure what to say..
