Subject: November Medicine Cat Meeting [2024] Sat 16 Nov 2024 - 15:22
The air is chilly as the medicine cats of each clan make their way towards Highstones, cold moonlight shining down on their pelts. Despite the growing threat of leafbare, though, the sky is clear and the stars bright, beckoning each cat towards the Moonstone for yet another night of quiet conversation and dreaming.

Hemlockfox wasn't looking forward to this moon's medicine cat meeting but, honestly, he never was. The only good that he hoped would come out of it was news of how SkyClan was faring and, particularly, if they'd managed to procure themselves another medicine cat. His former clan seemed to go through them like queens in the nursery went through moss, but leafbare would be here soon and, with it, illness. Just the thought of his former clan being left without a caretaker put a sour taste in his mouth.
He felt bad enough perhaps leaving them in the paws of some inexperienced fool, but at least then, he could split his time between his two clans. A task that would be much easier once Weevilpaw was officially his apprentice. The she-cat wasn't a total idiot like most apprentices he'd met but, even so, he wouldn't be getting his hopes up for her just yet.
Sighing, the brown and white tom descended the tunnel towards the Moonstone, his pawsteps echoing in the narrow space. He tasted the air and hummed, noticing that he was the first to arrive. There were some fresh scents, but they were at least a few days old - likely a medicine cat bringing an apprentice here for their Moonstone journey. Flicking his tail impatiently, Hemlockfox padded out into the great cavern that held the Moonstone, his blue eyes scanning the open space briefly before he settled down with a huff a few tail-lengths from the tunnel's opening.

NIGHTOWL
Is it easy to keep so quiet?
A sigh tumbled from his lips as the dark-furred tom made his way toward Highstones. He was among the lucky medicine cats; he didn't have to travel quite so far, with the Moonstone so close. That meant he scarcely had time to ruminate on everything. The thoughts that plagued him lately were taut with self-doubt; he didn't think he deserved to be here alongside the other medicine cats. He didn't think he deserved to call himself a medicine cat. But it was too late. ShadowClan was stuck with him now.
When Mothermouth was finally in sight, it was late dusk. He was making good time, and he knew he'd be early. Fox-dung. Being early always meant he could expect the most awkward interaction with whatever poor soul arrived next. He couldn't do too many more awkward interactions. Soon, he'd have to hide away in a thicket somewhere and never come out. It would probably be for the best.
Nightowl ducked into the long, winding tunnel that would lead him to the glimmering Moonstone. He scrunched his nose immediately. There was a familiar scent here; an all too familiar scent. Hemlockfox. Could he really face the tom today? His gaze was always so sharp and piercing. It felt like all of Nightowl's actions were under scrutiny when he was around. Like the stoic WindClanner was just waiting for him to mess up.
Silently, Nightowl padded into the wide cave. He avoided Hemlockfox's gaze as he sat down a foxlength or so from the cavern's entrance. Perhaps tonight will be uneventful. He could hope, anyway.

Hollypaw found today a lot less daunting than his last meeting.
The ginger tom didn't know why, per se. Maybe it was Wolfstar not watching over him (though that could also have had the opposite effect), or perhaps it was because he recognized the faces of a cat who was there before. But tonight, he felt good. Perhaps they'd find some kind of connection together.
"Good evening," he said, sitting next to the other cats. It was not a good idea to not talk with them, like he did last half-moon - Wolfstar told him that medicine cats needed to know and trust each other so that they could be above clan rivalries, so that was something he needed to be a part of. "How has... WindClan and ShadowClan been?" He thought those were the scents of the medicine cats - he never asked them for their positions, and the interactions were just so awkward at times, but perhaps things could be better now.

Hemlockfox's gaze sharpened, the echo of pawsteps from down the tunnel drawing his attention from the otherwise silent cavern. Nightowl's familiar pelt emerged from the darkened tunnel, before long, and the WindClan medicine cat watched silently as the ShadowClanner awkwardly settled in several tail-lengths away from him - as if in danger of being snapped at merely for attending. Hemlockfox smirked to himself at the thought.
It was tempting, he had to admit. Before he could antagonize the tom, however, an achingly familiar scent wafted into the cavern, shortly followed by a pair of quiet pawsteps. Blue eyes snapped to the tunnel, Nightowl forgotten, at the scent of SkyClan in the air. So, they'd finally replaced Thymelight, then? Good. He'd never been a fan of her anyway. With any luck, this new medicine cat at least possessed SkyClan blood. The tom that padded into the cave, however, was entirely unfamiliar to Hemlockfox.
He squinted, tasted the air, and felt his tail lash once, then twice. Had he really been gone from his home for so long that there were cats he didn't know and who didn't know him? Disappointment roiled in his belly at the thought, but he shoved it down with a twitch of his whiskers. He didn't deserve to be upset. It was good that SkyClan was growing. He'd been worried for some time, with the many losses his former clan had endured, but he was happy they were doing well. Even if he wasn't there to witness it.
The young SkyClanner was the first to speak, though, and Hemlockfox bobbed his head in a slow nod. "WindClan is well." He meowed gruffly. He, however, was more interested in hearing how SkyClan was doing. "I assume SkyClan fares the same?" A bit of pride crept into his voice and Hemlockfox lifted his chin with a small grin. "I can't say I recognize you, but I'm Hemlockfox. I used to be SkyClan's medicine cat." Hopefully, that admission would have the - what he assumed to be an apprentice - more willing to divulge information.

PIGEONSUN
Life gives you lemons...
Pigeonsun came scrambling up Highstones in a rush. She wasn’t late, exactly, arriving just at the latest hours of dusk, but she could see the other medicine cats disappearing into the tunnel at a distance as she hurried up the rocks. She was grateful, at least, to hear their voices echoing off the rocks as she made the descent through Mothermouth. They hadn’t decided to start the meeting early, like she’d assumed-- good. They were still just discussing. A breath of relief left the tightness of her chest, and before long, she was emerging in the brightly lit cavern.
Hemlockfox, Nightowl, and… SkyClan’s new apprentice, though she’d forgotten his name, were all present. Pigeonsun bid a nod to each of them in turn. ”Hi, everyone,” she chirped in between rounds of Hemlockfox and the SkyClanner speaking.
