A relaxing evening (c)

Padding alongside Laurelriver, Molehill lead the two of them through the territory in hopes of being able to bring some prey home for the clan. He hadn't interacted much with the she-cat and knew he needed to get to know his clanmates more, so when he saw her making her way across camp earlier he'd taken the opportunity to invite her on a patrol. Of course, the deputy wasn't the best at starting conversation, but he enjoyed the comfortably silence that rested over them.

Laurelriver barely interacted with Molehill before he became deputy, and she wanted to rectify that. "By the way, congratulations on becoming deputy," she said, smiling at him as the two of them walked. "What's it like, having to do all the stuff the deputy's got to do?" Organizing patrols... talking with the leader... leading apprentice ceremonies, was that it? Well, there was also the fact that they were next-in-line to become leader, and they had to live with that. It wasn't an easy burden to live with, especially if he would only become leader upon his mate's death.

While Molehill was responding, the calico she-cat caught a whiff of a familiar prey. "Wait," she said, crouching down into her hunter's crouch. "I smell rabbit." Stalking the prey, she slowly got closer to it, before beginning the chase.

The rabbit didn't even have a chance. It wasn't nearly as fast as Laurelriver, and the calico she-cat grabbed it before quickly biting at its neck. "Whmmk mw thwmm!" she mewed, mouth full of her catch. Digging a hole, she dropped the rabbit she caught down there.

Short ears perking up as the she-cat started up some conversation, Molehill turned her direction and gave her a respectful dip of his head as a sort of 'thanks.' "Well, so far it hasn't been too different than what I used to do," he mewed softly, returning his gaze to the path ahead. "But being in charge of cats, so to speak... that's been taking some getting used to," the stocky warrior added. While his mate had trusted him in this position, telling cats what to do wasn't in his nature and it'd been a very quick adjustment.

Nodding his head as Laurelriver began to stalk the prey, Molehill padded over near the edge of the territory to update the scent markers. They hadn't been having much trouble with the neighboring clans, but he knew it was always a good idea to keep the scents as fresh as possible.

"Yeah, I get that," Laurelriver had said, right before sniffing the rabbit. "It's so hard being in charge of one apprentice, with her own beliefs and desires. I can't imagine what it's like to be the deputy." After catching it, she bounded over to Molehill, joining him on the border. "You know, you're pretty easy on the eyes. I can see why Rapidfire chose you as her mate." Laurelriver grinned at the deputy innocently, not realizing the weight of her words.

"Good catch," the deputy commented in his usual quiet tone of voice as his patrol partner returned to his side. "And yes, I agree. Apprentices... they're a pawful for sure," he added. He was about to suggest that they continue along the border, until Laurelriver's comment made his shut his jaw. She thought he was easy on the eyes? Wasn't that a form of flirting? She clearly knew that he had a mate, but the brown tom couldn't believe his ears.

"I uh..." Molehill stuttered, his heart racing and head spinning as he stood next to her. "I... I don't think we should be talking of such things. Rapidfire... she's my mate. She's mine... and I'm her's... I can't uh, flirt with you..." the plump warrior stammered softly, his voice shaky as he looked down at his paws, unable to make eye contact with the she-cat. The warrior didn't really mean what she said, did she?
