Subject: Honeypaw's Warrior Ceremony Sat 5 Oct 2024 - 12:46
The battle against the wolves and subsequent infection had left the Skyclan leader moving slowly, but there were things to do. Another apprentice was ready to become a warrior, and Wolfstar hoped the ceremony would offer the clan a small distraction from recent events. Wolfstar gingerly leapt up to the tallbranch, gazing out over the camp.
"Let all cats old enough to climb a tree gather below the tallbranch for a clan meeting!" She called.
---
Honeypaw's ear twitched at the call for a meeting. Her mentor had disappeared recently, though her training was nearing an end despite his lack of guidance. Lighttail had helped her a lot, and with her recent trip to the moonstone, surely her ceremony would be sooner rather than later. At least, she hoped.
---
"Honeypaw, step forward." Wolfstar's eyes were warm as she gazed down at the young apprentice. Her training had not been the smoothest, but the leader had seen the apprentice's determination to succeed. She waited for her granddaughter to step forward before continuing. "Skyclan, Honeypaw has trained hard to learn the ways of a warrior, and I commend her to you now as a warrior in her turn." She began, "Honeypaw, do you swear to uphold the code, and to provide for an defend Skyclan, even at the cost of your life?"
---
Honeypaw's eyes widened slightly. She'd been hoping for her ceremony, of course, but to hear Wolfstar call her forward was still exciting. The fluffy apprentice stepped forward, bright eyes fixed on her leader as she spoke. To protect the clan... Even against the wolves, she would fight for them. "I do." She mewed.
---
Wolfstar nodded, satisfied with Honeypaw's firm answer. It was one she both cherished and dreaded, knowing how often the oath was taken literally. But her clan needed strong warriors, and Honeypaw was ready. "Then I grant you your warrior name. Honeypaw, from this day forward you shall be known as Honeybee. We honor your determination and resourcefulness." Her mentor had been a largely absent one, even before his untimely disappearance, yet the newly-named Honeybee had persisted in her training.
Gingerly, Wolfstar leapt from the tallbranch, padding toward the clan's newest warrior. "You've done well, Honeybee... You'll sit vigil tonight. I hope it is an uneventful one." With a dip of her head, the leader backed away to let the rest of the clan celebrate.
Lighttail was pleased to see Honeypaw, now Honeybee, doing well. It still hurt, of course, that Stoatclaw was gone, but he truly had trained a good warrior. She wished he was here to see the result.
“Honeybee! Honeybee!” Lighttail chanted the name with the rest of the clan, but her voice was hollow. She stepped forward to congratulate Honeybee, but her face was equally dull. Lighttail mewed a simple congratulation and left.
