| After talking with Poppystar earlier, Kitespring didn't have any energy left.
Bleeding her heart out to her, only to be rejected... it was a part of life, but it didn't make it any less painful. Certainly, Poppystar didn't mean any ill will - not after doing everything in her power to make the rejection as palatable as possible.
Didn't work, but Kitespring did appreciate the effort.
Every word that Poppystar had said stung more than the last, but Kitespring couldn't blame her - not really. For crying out loud, Kitespring had confessed to her, made her more uncomfortable for talking about it. Gone were the days of Kitespring ignoring her crush on Poppystar, gone was the hope of truly being together with her, gone was everything but the stagnant feeling of rejection.
Her tail twitched. It felt like the stars were falling. Just thinking about Poppystar made her mad. Kitespring knew, from the bottom of her heart, that Poppystar didn't want her to be mad... but stars, she was too pained by grief to think of it. Love and rejection do not mix.
Moonlight shone into the warrior's den, illuminating the pelts of the warriors surrounding her. Night's cold embrace rushed over Kitespring, its chilly breath making her fur stand on end. Of all nights, it had to be the chilliest night of greenleaf right after she confessed.
Perhaps it was her thoughts that kept her cold.
Quietly getting out of her nest, the russet-furred she-cat gazed at the leader's den. Remembering all of the good times she shared with Poppystar only hurt more, even if she knew that it didn't matter. She didn't know why it hurt so much - maybe it was because she had held onto it for so long, maybe because she knew that it was going to hurt but didn't want to pull the tail out until just now, maybe because of something she couldn't really understand yet. Their relationship could still change, or it could still be the same, but she didn't like either option. Under everything, Kitespring knew that she would still be close friends with Poppystar, if she really wanted. Very close friends... but not lovers.
Where did it all go wrong?
X-ing out the thought, Kitespring curled back up in her nest. You're such a foxheart, for thinking something like that. Zoning out, she tried to focus on the world around her - the den she slept in, the faces of the warriors next to her, the cool greenleaf air - and closed her eyes. ______________________________________ Rookfire, ShadowClan T4 Warrior: 60/170Kitespring, RiverClan T3 Warrior: 50/140Laurelriver, WindClan T3 Warrior: 50/140Hollypaw, SkyClan MCA: 20/50pfp of rook drawn by the amazing xaandiir! |
