Eating Alone

He took a deep breath, and closed his eyes for a moment. When he opened them, he stared straight into her eyes. "Can you see anything? Anything at all?"

"Huh?"
She asked not understanding at all.

"Can you see our faces? The color of our fur?" Firefly stared at her kit.

Sandnose rised a paw and waved it at the kit,"do you know what I'm doing?" she asked intently

She paid no mind to Sandnose, only the strange word her mother said.
"What's color?"

Sandnose let out a gasp, she knew what was wrong with the kit,"oh...no..." she trailed off

Deadfrost's heart sank. "Sandnose, please, go.." He dismissed her quietly. "Silverkit..." he began slowly. "I'm afraid your blind." He rested his tail on her small body, and looked up at the sky. StarClan, what has become of my family? Why must you take this out on my kit? Why!

"you mean... others don't 'see' darkness, but this... color..."
She hung her head.

"I'm sorry...but yes. Believe me, you don't deserve this." He sighed, and licked the little she-cat's head. "Please..understand."

Firefly suddenly looked old. "My kit... Can't be blind..." She whispered. "THis is all StarClan's fault. But, what did I do?"

Silverkit stayed silent.
How could StarClan do this to me?!

She suddenly realized that she shouldn't have even said that aloud. Her mouth opened, but no words came out.

Deadfrost leaned agains Firefly. "It's not your fault. It's StarClan's...once I thought they were being kind to us, but they have let this happen." His shoulder sagged sadly. Rainpaw..? Why? Tell me now!

Firefly stood up, and leaned over her kit. "Silverkit. I want you to promise me that you will never think any less of yourself, or let this get in your way of living."

She tried her best to locate and look up at her mother.
"It's just so hard! I always knew something was wrong with me!"
tears spilled from her eyes as she turned around and blindly fled from camp.
