FOXPAW
There's nothing that I'd take back...
As greenleaf faded into leaffall, the heat had seemed to release its hold on the forest, little by little. Foxpaw, with their short fur and light coloring, had managed much better in the greenleaf heat than their fluffier Clanmates, but the slight crisp of the evening breeze was still more than welcome as it ruffled their fur. Thank the stars. The summer was great and all, but there was only so much they could stand. The harsh sun made it difficult to go on any true bug-hunts, and they were usually resigned to some corner of camp to pant away in the shade. Without Ryepaw or Falconpaw.
Today, though, was shaping up to be a good day. With the promise of rain heavy on the air, the gentle wind that swept over the moors, and Ryepaw finally by his side, Foxpaw padded along happily, gangly tail high in the air and eyes bright with the promise of adventure. Sure, the pair had been issued a task by Rapidfire - hunting, or whatever - but who cared? Foxpaw was frankly happy to do anything if it was alongside his best friend.
"Say, Rye! What's your favorite prey? Heh, that's probably a stupid question. All prey is good prey in your eyes, amiright?" Foxpaw asked as they pranced along by Ryepaw's side, a goofy grin on their face. "Eh. Either way, you and are gonna catch so much prey that there will be plenty for you to eat, and then some! Maybe we can actually contribute to the fresh-kill pile." The apprentice joked, tone light and cheerful.
"Now... rabbits are fun to catch, even if they make up, like, ninety percent of the fresh-kill pile. It's just fun to chase 'em. And there's always... birds, I guess, but I don't really like to hunt them. They're just too pretty." Foxpaw scanned the rolling hills laid out before them, humming softly as he thought. "Maybe we'll go for a nice, juicy rabbit. Stars, I'm hungry." His belly rumbled as if on cue.

Ryepaw
Comin' thro the rye...
Ryepaw had been fit and ready to doze off by the time Rapidfire had come up to him and told him he was going hunting with a patrol. He had gotten to his paws with small protest, but that had been washed away nearly immediately when he was told Foxpaw was accompanying him. That gave him more energy. He always had energy when it came to going out-and-about with Foxpaw. Had that energy and just a bit more when it was Falconpaw... But Falconpaw had other cats to spend his time with now, supposedly. No time for little ol' Rye anymore. Twisted him more than he cared to admit.
"Anythin' except slimy things," He mrrowed, a crooked grin on his face. Happier things. Like how Foxpaw was spending time with him now. "Birds.. mm.. a lotta work to 'em. Too much pluckin'. Can't go wrong with a good rabbit, aye..."
His nose twitched, followed by a turn of his head at the sound of Foxpaw's stomach. He frowned a bit, and then he quickened his step. "You go pretend to be huntin'... Or do. Am' catchin' you somethin' to eat before ye fade away on me. An' yer gonna eat it now. Don't care what the ould ones'll say. Just blame me. They're used to me ate'in when am not supposed ta..."
He flicked his tail at where he assumed Foxpaws snout would be, and ambled off further into the moor. Quiet enough, for one as broad and heavy as him. He sniffed around, waiting, hoping to find something so he could feed his friend. The idea of them trying to hunt while their stomach hung out of them made him feel all... Not right. His ears picked up on a rustling, scratching sound, and he edged forward. He jumped, one paw landing much faster than the other. The rabbit squealed, turning to flee from its adversary. He lobbed himself out of the brush after it, and barked; "Catch it! Fox!" Oh, please StarClan, let it be an easy catch for his hungry friend.
