Blazekit sniffed around the camp, curious for anything that could entertain him. The nursery bored him and he wasn’t quite old enough to get his apprentice name. It left him antsy in the camp, and quite bored as well. He wished there was something he could do to be of use, like his father was, but there was nothing that really came to mind.
He paused as he saw another warrior pass by. He took a moment to try and remember the name—Cloudjumper, he was pretty sure. He thought that he remembered seeing his father talk to her on occasion.
Blazekit jumped on the opportunity. He moved towards the warrior, joining her in her walk, which was easy enough given his large statue. He said, “Good morning. Have you just returned from a patrol? What was it like?”
Cloudjumper had indeed just returned from patrol, and the large kit that had run up to her made the young warrior blink in surprise. "Hello there... Uh. You're Blazekit, right?" She'd spent time around the nursery caring for Amber, and visiting with her mother enough to have a passing knowledge of some of the kits, but sometimes Cloudjumper found herself wondering how the queens could keep them all straight. She glanced around hoping to catch the attention of one of them, but it seemed they were all busy at the moment. Not that she minded hanging out with one of the kits for a bit... She just. Didn't know what to do with them. Like, at all.
Answering questions at least was easy enough. "I did, yes!" She mewed, "It was a border patrol, so nothing interesting - just a long walk, really. Not as fun as hunting patrols are."
"What are you up to? Bored of being stuck in camp?"
Blazekit nodded, confirming that Cloudjumper did know his name, and it did make him happy to know that a respected warrior still knew who he was. He looked up as she answered. It was disappointing that there was nothing interesting to report, but his father always said those were the best kind of patrols because it meant the clan was safe.
He gave another nod and looked forward again. “Yes…My father says my six moons will be here soon and then I can start going on my own patrols as an apprentice.” That day cannot come soon enough. He and his siblings—they all needed to be out there, learning how to be the best warriors for WindClan. “I hope I can join you on patrols when I’m old enough.”
"Every day felt like forever at your age... You'll be an apprentice before you know it!" Cloudjumper couldn't help a smile at the kit's clear excitement. She had been just as excited at that age to become an apprentice.
"Oh, I'm sure we'll be assigned to the same patrols sooner or later. Who knows, maybe you'll get stuck with me as a mentor too." Though there were more experienced warriors that would probably get an apprentice before her, she couldn't help but hope for one of her own soon. To be able to pass on what she was taught, and to be recognized for it rather than linger in the shadows of another cat's training.
"What are you most excited to start learning? Hunting, fighting..?"
Blazekit tilted his head in consideration. All of it excited him in one way or another, but this question had been asked of him by a couple of cats at this point, and so he knew his answer.
“Fighting,” he replied. “I don’t look forward to it just for fighting, but I want to protect the clan. I want to get even bigger so I can fight any predator that dares to sniff in our territory. I will protect us.”
Cloudjumper couldn't help but smile at the kit's desire to protect the clan. "Fighting isn't something we should look forward to... And I'd worry about the sanity of someone who did. But it's also necessary to protect the clan, too. Eagles, foxes, badgers... They're always a threat." And the other clans could be a potential threat, she knew... But she wasn't out here to scare the kit. "I love hunting, but with how often we get interrupted by things thinking they have a right to Windclan's prey, knowing how to fight is valuable."
