Ryepaw
Comin' thro the rye...
His mouth parted in a toothy, gummy yawn, tears welling in the corners of his eyes that he wiped away with a heavy paw. StarClan, it was bright this morning. And early. He hadn't even gotten a chance to eat before he was shoved out on a patrol and he was so so hungry. Hunting patrol, though, so he supposed it checked out. He trudged out of camp and onto the moor, where whomever he was partnered up with was waiting. He narrowed his eyes, squinting through the morning sunlight. Leopardwind? Oh, yeah. The early warrior. And Ryepaw himself was probably late.
"Mornin'," He mumbled, pausing only to yawn again. He sniffled, then offered him that signature snaggletooth smile of his. "Sorry. Almost forgot ta wake up. Where we headin'? Mh, hope ya slept good too."
He was not familiar with Ryepaw. All Leopardwind knew of the apprentice was that they had been kits at the same time, and that Ryepaw was close friends with Foxpaw and Falconpaw. Now, if Ryepaw was a good friend, he didn't know. He highly doubted it. The warrior's tail flicked irritably as he waited for the apprentice-- already late-- to show up. Who was this tom's mentor? Surely, no proper warrior would have cultivated such a lazy apprentice who would turn up late for a simple hunting patrol?
Leopardwind, bored, looked around him at the vast moor. The sun was rising, the orange and red colours seeping into the dark sky like blood bleeding into water. The sight of the stars were ephemeral; they were soon engulfed in the growing brightness. A gentle zephyr rustled through the grass, carrying with it the sweet scent of wildflowers and morning dew. The warrior's ear flicked at the greeting from the apprentice; so Ryepaw had finally arrived. He bit his tongue, willing the words of disatisfaction away, and forced a somewhat awkward smile. "You look like you had a good rest. Better than I did, anyway."
The black warrior got to his paws, gesturing for Ryepaw to follow him. "We'll try our luck close to the Flower Fields. Are you familiar with hunting in pairs, Ryepaw?" He never got used to speaking to clanmates his age as if he were thrice as old.
