The sun was warm upon their backs, setting Kestrelchirp's pelt to a soft glow of orange in the light. The pair weaved through the rolling field of beautiful flowers until they crested a hill. The father paused, taking a look to his daughter and apprentice beside him. It was times like this that Kestrelchirp missed his mother, but she at least got to see one of his kits make it to warriorhood. Kestrelchirp was so thankful he had not had to deal with the amount of hardships that she faced with her rearing of kits - yet. But her stories helped him grow as a father and recognize peaceful moments like this would not last forever.
"Alright, Gorsepaw. I'll make a deal. If you can catch one piece of prey, we can hide out and play in the flowers. I told everyone we are going on a hunting patrol, so we have to come back with something or at least give it a shot." His eyes scanned the field, looking for any unusual movement in the grass. With a nod, he slunk down, his lean frame hardly disturbing the flowers.
A few paces away, the scent of a rabbit hit his nose. Dropping into an even more careful crouch, Kestrelchirp followed the trail until he caught site of the rabbit. For a few seconds he watched until the rabbit's head popped up - the wind had changed. Not wanting to lose his chance to get the hunting over with, the warrior burst into a sprint. Like a flash he was on the prey before it was over and he was done. Poking his head up, he looked to see how Gorsepaw was doing.
Kestrelchirp caught a rabbit!
