A Playful Pair (Skink/Newt/Open)

The day had been terribly warm, but with the sun sinking toward the horizon and a soft breeze stirring the leaves, Wolfstar had had enough of hiding the day away. There was a bit of time before the next patrols were to head out, and until then she would do something she had admittedly started to neglect lately.

White paws turned toward the nursery, a tired smile flickering across her expression as she spotted the kits and a queen who looked far more weary than the leader did. Wolfstar had been in her paws with overeager, energetic kits before and sympathized... But it was good to see new life in the clan. Stars knew they needed it.

Tufted ears caught the words of one of the little she-kits, and the leader remembered when her own kits had been that young. "I'm sure you will be." The tabby and white she-cat's whiskers twitched, "I can tell you two are excited to explore camp, finally. It won't be long until you become apprentices, even if it feels like it's a long way off."

A second black shadow trailed after Skinkkit, identical in coat and stature. Newtkit drew abreast of her sister at the mouth of the nursery, dark ears twitching. They'd been eager to explore the camp, and mother finally said it was okay, but Newtkit was cautious - there were so many cats out there, big cats, warriors and apprentices and elders, but Newt and Skink were still so small.

The dark kitten looked over her shoulder, and after another encouraging nod from their mother, Newtkit took a breath and met her sister's gaze. "Okay, let's go!" she stated confidently, and strolled out into the sunshine. It was warm, and bright, and so much space stretched out before them, and above them. Newtkit paused to take it all in, sucking a quick breath in through her nostrils.

"Hello, Wolfstar," Newtkit called out at the leader approached. She laid her tail over her sister's back, bright eyes looking up at the leader. "Who do you think our mentors will be?" The black kit looked over at Skinkkit, too, when she asked.

Mistypaw had no such restraint. “Hey, Wolfstar!” she chirped. “Ooh! More kits! Hi guys, I’m Mistypaw!” She was constantly in motion, black fur bushed out and plumy tail waving.
