All is Well [Hare Fam]

They were finally allowed outside of the nursery. Foxkit stood a few paces away from the den’s entrance, staring around in awe. Massive trees ringed their camp, branches swaying in the late new-leaf wind. Ruddy ears twitched incessantly at every small sound and vibration. His jaw hung slightly agape, and Foxkit’s head turned this way and that. All his Clanmates, who he only knew from the sound of their voices carrying through the nursery walls, lounged in the afternoon sun, peacefully sharing tongue. Foxkit’s heart raced slightly with excitement. Everything was so big beyond the nursery’s walls, so thrilling. It did not take long for his thoughts to drift toward the territory, wondering how much bigger the world got beyond camp. He wanted to wrap his teeth around it all and devour it.

But he couldn’t exactly escape--not right now, at least--and the sprawl of camp still held his attention. Foxkit turned to look toward his younger siblings creeping out of the nursery behind him and noticed Otterkit lingering behind. His brother had been skittish since they’d opened their eyes, and he was frailer than the rest of them, too. Foxkit frowned and plodded over to nudge Otterkit brusquely with his shoulder. ”Hey,” he said, ”don’t you wanna come explore?” How could Otterkit not be bolting? Foxkit was barely resisting the urge himself. He tilted his head to the side, blinking slowly. ”I mean-- we’ve been in the nursery forever. It’s exciting, right?”
