OOC: Open hunting topic! Feel free to throw in your warriors. The patrol is currently not far from camp, cautious about the unknown threat lurking in the territory. This thread is mainly being used for apprentice training, but other warriors are welcome to join! Participants: Honeydew, Stormwatcher, Brackendawn, Ambersun, Yewshade, Kestrelpaw, Ospreypaw, Blazepaw, Icepaw, Ridgepaw
Edit: Stormwatcher rolled a 10, summoning the hunters... but we will wait for everyone in the topic to roll once before we bring them in. Honeydew was hesitant to take her newly-named apprentice out into the forest, knowing that some large, unknown predator was running rampant. The forest had been quiet... too quiet. Honeydew couldn't keep Kestrelpaw in camp all the time, she knew. She has to see the territory, and she has to learn how to properly hunt. Honeydew had organized an extra hunting patrol today to accompany them into the forest. Stormwatcher spearheaded the patrol, leading the way through the dense undergrowth, his apprentice Ospreypaw not far behind him. Brackendawn padded at her side opposite of Kestrelpaw, with his own apprentice, Blazepaw. Ambersun and Yewshade and their apprentices Icepaw and Ridgepaw weren't far behind. Despite the eerie atmosphere of the forest, being together like this on such a large patrol with so many of their apprentices made Honeydew's heart happy.
"Be very careful, everyone," she cautioned nervously as they treaded deeper into the forest. "Let's stay close together. Don't wander too far from one another, and yowl if you sense signs of danger, okay?" Her words were directed mostly at the apprentices in the patrol. Whatever had destroyed the fox would certainly make quick work of an apprentice. Especially one as young as Kestrelpaw, Honeydew fretted, casting a sidelong glance at her apprentice.
They had been practicing the hunting crouch in the safety of the camp for a couple of nights, but Kestrelpaw was growing understandably restless. It was natural for apprentices to want to get out and see the territory, to run and use their claws. I will never let anything happen to her, Honeydew silently vowed. I would give my life for Kestrelpaw, or any of these apprentices. Any one of my clanmates, she decided. That is the risk we agree to take at our warrior naming ceremony, after all.
Turning to her apprentice, Honeydew tried to erase the worry from her tone. "Alright - it's time to get your claws in some real prey, don't you think?" she mewed cheerily, her expression lightening. "The patrol will begin to fan out, spreading out over an area. Too many cats will scare away the prey. You remember that hunting crouch we've been practicing?" she mewed encouragingly, lowering herself into her best crouch - perfected throughout the moons she spent training rigorously with Mistflower and Brackendawn when they were apprentices together. Hunting was never her greatest skill, but she sure had the crouch down. She shot herself forward, catching a leaf in her paws. She clawed it into the air, leapt and smacked it back down, landing on all four paws. Her bright blue eyes found Kestrelpaw's, and her whiskers twitched in amusement. "Now you try it, I'll watch your back. Try stalking over to those raised, gnarled roots of that huge tree there - there may be some unsuspecting mouse or vole nearby."
Ambersun padded at the back of the patrol, keeping an eye on her apprentice. Stars, she was so glad that they were all in one gigantic group for training. That way, they could fight that wolf-thing lurking in SkyClan territory if it appeared - though Ambersun still really didn't want to get into a battle with it. Honeydew's reminder to not go too far away was always good to hear - Ambersun made sure to stick close so they didn't get caught in a bad situation.
"If you want to try hunting by yourself, go for it," she said, smiling at Icepaw. "I'll watch you, and then I can show you how I do things after." Icepaw was very independent - something Ambersun didn't want to destroy. She did want to make sure that Icepaw knew that Ambersun would be there for her if she needed it, but her experience with Brackendawn gave her more experience mentoring than she thought - and it would help her with Icepaw today.

Stormwatcher led the patrol with his apprentice Ospreypaw. He liked Honeydew's idea, with whatever was out here it was smart to keep together when training.
The tom could sometimes be very independent and hard to keep in line, but deep down he really did care about all his clanmates. "Ospreypaw? This will be a great time to show what you have learned, all your friends are practicing too. Any of the warriors can give you advise: and as always- I'll be right by your side if anything goes wrong" he whispered quietly to her keeping his voice extra low to not scare off any would be prey and also -- to not alert whatever monster was out here to their presence.
As the patrol fanned out slightly he spotted ahead of them some squirrels, "ok Ospreypaw, you get the one on the left, ill go right" he whispered creeping forwards.
He snuck up close as he could to his target that was perched on a low branch before he leapt right at it!

(OOC Note:
I talked with Uwubers- They said that before our patrol gets ambushed everyone else can do their hunting rolls as well)

"Good luck Kestrelpaw!" Ospreypaw mewed encouragement to the new apprentice as the patrol drifted apart. She thought back to her own first hunt several moons ago and remembered the feelings of pride and elation when she'd made a catch. Hopefully this hunt would go well and Kestrelpaw would get the same experience.
Plus seeing the territory for the first time... she was almost jealous she couldn't live it again. Camp had been feeling more confining by the day with the new rules. A chance to hunt and stretch her legs was just what Ospreypaw needed. Her ears pricked up as she trotted towards Stormwatcher, filled with the sounds of the forest in new-leaf. Birds chirped in the branches above and other prey rustled among the roots. The canopy of leaves had finally filled out again, sending beams of sunlight dancing over her striped pelt. Ospreypaw couldn't help but break into a smile at the familiar territory. It was so peaceful she could almost forget about the danger lurking somewhere within.
practicing... advise... The buzz of forest sounds faded as she tuned back in to her mentor's words. Her smile grew warmer as Stormwatcher spoke. Even though she was fully confident she could handle a little hunting, Ospreypaw was always grateful for how much her mentor cared. "Got it." With a nod the apprentice crept away to the left, remembering her training as she stalked towards the squirrel. Her pounce was too eager, however, and the squirrel scurried away up a tree, quicker than even an Skyclan cat could follow. The apprentice sat back on her haunches with a huff, looking over to see if Storwatcher had better luck.
Ospreypaw attempted to catch a squirrel but missed
Kestrelpaw listened intently to Honeydew while she spoke. She watched with great interest when her mentor swiped a leaf clean out of the air. Her green eyes bright while she nodded. The large amount of cats on their patrol made her a little uneasy, what if she failed horribly… she tried not to think about that while she looked towards the roots Honeydew had directed her to and moved over towards them with a low crouch. Her belly fur almost touched the floor of the forest while she crept forward slowly. Dark ears forward towards the sounds of scuffling and scratching at the ground.
She paused a short distance away. Tucked behind a root was a large mouse that seemed to be in the middle of pulling a seed out of the ground. Slowly, carefully, she put one paw in front of the other. Freezing when it looked in her direction.
It stepped out from behind its root, one step, two… now! Kestrelpaw leapt forward and reached out with a paw to block its path back to the root, enabling her to catch it quickly. She grinned and looked back over towards Honeydew, bringing her catch over towards the rest of the hunting patrol proudly while she set it down and waited to see how the other apprentices did with a smile.

BLAZEPAWi can't be who you need me to be he/they - skyclan app. - 7 moons
Blazepaw shook out his pelt, watching the rest of the patrol split up into pairs - apprentice and mentor sticking together for hunting lessons. It warmed his heart to be on such a large patrol - and with so many of his fellow apprentices, too! His whiskers twitched as he watched Honeydew demonstrate how to catch a particularly wily leaf. He'd been a bit anxious the past few days, still trying to grasp just how big of a threat lurked around the corner, but maybe a peaceful hunt was just what he needed.
Besides, he'd do anything to protect any one of these cats, he decided. No intruding mange-pelt would stand a chance against him, no matter how small he might be.
He glanced over at Brackendawn. The older tom had taken him on his first hunt not too long ago, and he'd said Blazepaw was a bit of a natural. Would he want to show him more tips, or did he expect him to go off on his own and start hunting? Blazepaw was confident nonetheless. Brackendawn had been proud of him on his first hunt - well, today he'd make everyone proud! His gaze lit up with excitement as he scanned the trees before him, tilting his head back to taste the air. Who's out today? Well - what would be the most impressive catch? Perhaps a nice, plump rabbit. Yes - that would do.
As if on cue, he picked up the familiar earthy scent of none other than a rabbit, recognizing it almost as immediately as the scent hit his nose. Blazepaw crouched low, keeping his tail from trailing in the leaf litter beneath him. Come on... Each pawstep felt like an eternity chasing prey he couldn't even see, but as he slipped around a bush, he saw it. There! Fat and slow and probably the juiciest rabbit on the territory. The tabby tom's mouth watered as he stalked forward. All he had to do was pounce. Don't mess this up, mousebrain.
As he gathered his haunches beneath him and leapt into the air, he realized maybe he really was a natural. The rabbit didn't even have time to react as he landed square on it, giving it a swift nip to the neck and feeling its struggle slow, then stop, beneath his paws. "Wolfstar might as well make me a warrior now!" He called over his shoulder to Brackendawn, purring in amusement and pride.
Blazepaw caught a rabbit!
