It was a nice day, with a clear sky and the sun's warmth shining into camp. There had been so much going on recently that keeping up with things had been a struggle, in truth, but Wolfstar was glad to do what she could to help ease the load that was on her deputy's shoulders. Today another kit would be made an apprentice, and after doing warrior ceremonies had felt so strange, it was almost a relief to be able to do an apprentice ceremony once again.
"Let all cats old enough to climb a tree gather beneath the tallbranch for a clan meeting!"
Firekit curiously peered out of the nursery at Wolfstar's call, his wispy tail swaying behind him as he look around the clearing. After a moment of careful consideration, he slipped fully out of the sheltered den, black and orange fur shining in the midday sun. He fluffed hosts fur out happily at the warmth that spread across his pelt and skirted around the gathering crowd to sit safely away from the warriors and apprentices. His littermates were each beginning to join the apprentice's den, but Firekit wasnt too sure he was ready for such a big commitment. Especially when some of the warriors, like Shatteredsky, frightened him.
Gaze shifting from side to side nervously, Firekit spotted a cozy place to crouch and observe the meeting. It couldn't be to promote anyone to the apprentice's den, though, usually Honeydew handled those kinds of ceremonies. So, with a steadying breath, the young tom tucked his paws beneath his chest and blinked up at Wolfstar. She was his dad's mom which made them family...maybe she'd understand if he asked to stay in the nursery a little while longer? Surely kits had asked before, right? Probably. He couldnt be the only one who was scared.
A curious face peeked out of nursery - the kit she intended this ceremony for was one she had mostly seen at a distance despite their blood ties. As he came into the clearing Wolfstar took a slow breath, noting how he sat away from some of the warriors, not that she could entirely blame him.
"Firekit, step forward," There was warmth in Wolfstar's tone, though she had spent much too little time with her younger grandkits between the aftermath of the war and becoming leader. She would check in on them more, she told herself.
"You have reached the age of six moons old, and it is time you become an apprentice. From now until you receive your full name, you will be known as Firepaw. Your mentor will be Harespring." She mewed, giving the pale tom she had just named a nod. Firepaw's older cousin, he had worked hard and Wolfstar had no doubt that he would train the younger cat well.
