Pineblossom

Pineblossom enjoyed the occasional quiet evenings to herself, although she had grown so used to having company during meals. Her children were growing and coming into their own, so they didn’t spend every single meal with her anymore. Which was fine of course…but it did leave moments like now, when she was curled up in camp eating some dinner with no one at her side, to feel lonelier than she was used to. She thought back to Webshadow and how he had enjoyed quiet time on his own in camp…Did he ever get lonely like that, she wondered?

Boarpaw
Apprentice | ShadowClan | He/Him

Many of the other apprentices had rather... large personalities. That certainly wasn't a bad thing, but it could get a little overwhelming for a cat like him. He usually ended up finding his own quiet spot to eat, sometimes cat-watching and listening to conversations or getting lost in his own thoughts. That was usually enough to keep him content, but he was starting to realize the majority of his conversations were just about training. It's been a long while since he had just talked. He should get to know his clanmates, shouldn't he?

He grabbed a rat from the fresh-kill pile, lifting his head to scan the camp. There were a few cats who had broken into groups and a few who were still going about their day, but there were a few who were alone as well. He recognized Pineblossom, a cat he admired a bit. She seemed so level-headed and cool. He tried not to bother her, or anyone else for that matter, but she looked to have some free time...

Making up his mind, the large apprentice lumbered over. "Do you mind if I keep you company? I don't want to infringe."

Pineblossom

Boarpaw’s arrival was unexpected and Pineblossom lifted her head with wide eyes to look at him. Her expression softened when he explained and she replied, “I don’t mind at all. Please, take a seat.” She adjusted so they could properly sit together. It had been a while since she shared a meal with someone new. “Is there any particular reason that you decided to join me? I don’t believe we have spoken much before.” He seemed like a very nice young tom, though, and Pineblossom always enjoyed getting to now hwo the apprentices were doing.

Boarpaw
Apprentice | ShadowClan | He/Him

Boarpaw gave a subtle nod as he was invited to sit, taking a place beside the she-cat. He neatly tucked his paws underneath himself, though shuffled awkwardly when Pineblossom inquired about his reasoning. "I realized that I have been focusing near exclusively on training and responsibilities. I thought I was alright with that, I like having things to do. However, I recognize that isn't exactly..."  He cleared his throat uncomfortably. "...good." Healthy was probably a more descriptive word... He was oversharing, she didn't need to know all that.

"Anyway, um, I thought you seemed nice. You were eating alone, so I thought it was a good opportunity to speak with you." He probably should have led with that.

Pineblossom

Pineblossom wasn’t bothered by Boarpaw sharing his troubles. She opened her mouth to ask more, or reassure him that it was common to put such focus into one’s training and it was good he was recognizing when he needed a break, but then Boarpaw had already moved on. Pineblossom let it go for now and just gave him a smile. “That’s very sweet of you. I thought I would have to have a dinner all on my own, but it’s nice that I get to have some company.”

Since Boarpaw mentioned that he was giving so much focus to his training, Pineblossom decided to help him get a moment away from that. She asked, “Have you made friends when you’re not busy training? There’s a lot to explore in the territory and it’s always nice when you have a friend alongside you to explore.”

Boarpaw

Boarpaw thought for a moment, then nodded at Pineblossom's inquiry. "I have." He had cats he liked to talk to, though perhaps he neglected to talk to them enough. Many of them had their own groups and cliques that he wasn't sure he was allowed to wiggle into. He never asked to wiggle in either, leaving the question of if he was allowed unanswerable.

"It wouldn't hurt to ask them to explore with me. I like walking the territory... How do you make time for it? I feel like I should be doing something productive when I'm not working." His paws should always be moving. Exploring the territory felt like work in a good way, like he could relax and still be productive at the same time, but a part of him felt that destroyed the purpose. He needed to stop focusing on training, not integrate it further into his life. Maybe an experienced warrior knew how to hold a balance.
