I have underestimated the amount of time needed to train Flint every day following the new training course I bought. Its not that the lessons themselves are long, but a few things in particular are very demanding of my energy and a little hard on my soft lazy slug body. After walking, training and playing I have been tired and sore for the past few days (someone pray for my legs, standing up after sitting is agony). My belt needs to be another hole tighter already. o.O Anyway, Flint's projected "graduation date" is April 28th. There isn't much to share right now, but I might show a few things as I go on discord. Structured play my beloathed has become the main focus since Flint has grasped the other concepts very fast. We did it today with a lot of success but my entire body is on fire with every movement. It is the most intense play I've done with any creature, but is so important for the rest of the training to work. I will not have the energy or desire for anything but sleep or some form of relaxation that does not require my brain after that... and I will be doing it frequently until training is done. I might be able to get some posts in at work but no guarantees.
Love the training, no regrets, Flint is improving insanely fast and he was already a Petco graduate (lawl), but yes this is more energy intensive than I thought and I am out of shape. I gotta rest so I can still go to work and that includes my brain.
Not important to the announcement but for those curious: Structured Play is having a ball and rope toy or some kind of tug and using it as the main focus of playing, rewarding and teaching the dog that bringing toys to me is fun, letting go on command is fun, and even "losing" (toy goes bye bye) is fun. The dog is on a leash, you gradually make that leash longer as you play. The leash prevents the dog from running off with the toy and not bringing it back. The rule is you never let them "self satisfy" by chewing on it in peace. There is lots of tugging, lots of "Give", lots of tossing the toy after he "gives", lots of excited praising, lots of "Bring", lots of leash pops for corrections when they try to run off with the toy.
A lot of activity. I do this for about 20 minutes, sometimes longer, because I have an energetic working breed dog and I
have to to keep him from feeling deflated from cutting a play session too short. If he's not panting, we can't stop.
That's it. Thanks for understanding!
