For the first time, Sageroot ascended the Highrock. Her paws shook with excitement and apprehension as she stopped to get her bearings. After a few deep breaths, she called out, “Let all cats safe from the bramble’s thorn gather for a clan meeting!”

Iriskit skipped happily out of the nursery, skidding to a halt in front of the Highrock. Today was the day, she could feel it! It would finally be time for her to join the ranks of Thunderclan's apprentices, and train to be the best warrior she could be. She stared admiringly up at Sageroot, hoping to be as good a warrior as the clan deputy someday.

Sageroot smiled at the kit’s enthusiasm, always good to see. “Iriskit, step forward. You have reached the age of six moons and are ready to be apprenticed. From now until you get your warrior name, you will be known as Irispaw. Your mentor will be Auburnflare.”

She looked out at the tom in question. “Auburnflare, you haven’t been a warrior for long but you have a wealth of life experience. I hope you will pass everything you’ve learned onto your apprentice.”

Auburnflare was still getting used to hearing Sageroot summon the clan. It was seeing other cats gather that prompted him to head over. Settling back on his haunches, the lean brown and white tom craned his neck to look up at the molly. Ah, another apprentice ceremony. Given his age, his own ceremony had seemed redundant but had played a role in him accepting his place as a Thunderclan cat.

He closed his eyes, remembering the moment he'd given up his rogue name. It was the sound of his warrior name that caused his eyes to snap open once again. A mentor? His whiskers twitched and Auburnflare stood with his head high. This was the type of recognition he deserved. Soon, he'd teach this kit everything Vinecrawler had taught him and more.

Padding over to Irispaw, he touched his nose to hers, "Get yourself a comfortable nest. We will explore the territory tomorrow after sunrise. Don't worry about a thing, you'll be training with one of the best warriors in the forest." He pulled back with an overconfident wink, waiting for her response.

Irispaw beamed widely up at her new mentor, touching her nose to his. She felt like she was full to bursting with excitement, so much so that she wasn't sure she could wait until tomorrow to explore the territory. She had so many questions about the warrior code, and being a warrior, and she was sure there was a lot to see in Thunderclan's forest.

She purred happily as Auburnflare proclaimed himself one of the best warriors in the forest. "I can't wait!" She practically squealed with giddy joy. "Do you think one day I'll be one of Thunderclan's best warriors?" She was relatively confident she could do it, especially with such a great mentor, but part of her wanted reassurance that her mentor thought she had potential.

Auburnflare could feel his own excitement fueled by hers, "Go on now and get some rest. Warriors hunt better when they've slept. It's like, the first thing you learn in apprentice training... how to love sleep."
