For his companion on this adventure Louse had chose the former house cat, Hazel. He couldn't fathom why she'd left her life of luxury, but so far she had sufficed as company. She didn't whine, she didn't complain, and her skills weren't half bad. Hazel was quite handy, and he could see why the gaggle of cats he shared his home with had a certain affinity for her, though Louse could tell there was still some uncertainty surrounding the she-cat's future with them. Perhaps their excursion could help change things, and he could vouch for her. Not because he liked her, but to have her in his debt. To be owed a favour left the other cat at a constant disadvantage. With a grin, the rogue weaved between the patterned trees, scenting the air. Hopefully they'd avoid the clan cats. "Have you eveer tried fish?" he asked, starting conversation "Not my  brother, by the way." he added, laughing at his joke. There was a flash of red, and Louse was moving into action "Hold that thought, Hazel..." The tom gave chase, and with a lash of his claws and a bite to the neck, he brought a swift end to the squirrels life. He buried the squirrel, and then returned to his companion's side. "Doesn't seem to be any of those pestilent clan cats around today." he mused, the thought making him smile to himself. That just meant he could have more fun on his adventure.

She padded alongside her companion, still wary of clan cats after a few encounters with them. She’d rip their ears off if they dared to cross her path. It had been a mere moon since she had left the nest she had called home, but it never felt one bit like home. The Twoleg that used to own her let pesky dogs into the nest, which would spend endless hours barking at her. Not to start with the slop they fed her. She was much happier in the forest. Snow crunched under her paws, and the rivers were mostly frozen. She was about to respond to Louse’s question, but before she had the chance, he gave chase for a squirrel.

"I’ve had fish before, yes," she meowed, glad to hear the pesky clan cats weren’t here to drive them out of the territory. She had met clan cats on that occasion, and if they weren’t so kind to her, she would bring her claws out. She had known not to trust any clan cat after her few experiences with them. Hazel noticed an icy cold river running down for what seemed like fox lengths. She saw a minnow swimming in it, and Hazel immediately swiped her claws at it. She had missed it and unsheathed her claws upset.

Hazel didn’t complain, but she also didn’t talk much. A short clipped answer was the only response louse received, and he found himself frowning at the response. “… So did it taste good?” he prompted. The more a cat talked the more he learnt about them, and the more he knew the easier it was to follow their rules… Or circumvent them when needed. “Sheathe your claws, if the clan cats find us they might assume we’re looking for a fight. I suppose being on ‘their territory’ also qualifies as reason to fight for them too, but personally I’d rather not deal with that.” His eyes followed Hazel’s simmering glare to the source of her annoyance - a small stream. Perhaps he’d have better luck.

Clearly not. As soon as the calico stuck his nose near the water, there was a screeching honk from downstream, followed by a goose charging towards him. “We avoid the clan cats but no you?” he sighed in exasperation, claws unsheathing. Whose territory had he soiled to have this much wildlife after him. His eyes darted to Hazel to ask for help, but like before with the fox the predator took this as an opportunity to attack. He really had to stop getting distracted. The goose pecked him sharply on the head, and he let out a loud yelp. It was a small consolation, but no less annoying, that at least it didn’t hurt as much as the fox’s bite. That wound he was still nursing. In retaliation to his attacker, Louse grabbed on to the bird’s wing and yanked, disorienting it. Hazel could help is she wanted, but the tom felt confident in his ability to deal with an oversized duck.

As she heard a honk, she had assumed it was a cat and rushed to all fours with the fish still in grip. She had realized it was just a goose and sighed, but it was charging at Louse! She had to act fast. No-! It was too late. "Ugh!" she exclaimed, irritated. A moment of peace was too much to ask for, but she supposed it was the honker’s fault and not Louse's. She skidded right under the goose's belly with unsheathed claws and attempted to scratch its weak spot. If she did this, then Louse would have a fair chance to strike it, and they would finish it off. The crew was hungry, and leaf-bare was a time of need! So why did nosy little geese not keep to themselves? She felt a small slip on her forelegs. Was she going to fail the slash before she could escape? blood dripped from the goose's belly, and she crawled to her fours panting after the dangerous stunt. "I’m sorry I didn’t save you earlier, Louse..."she meowed guiltily.

The goose squawked loudly as an attacker it hadn't seen tore into it, blood sprayed and it tumbled forward. Louse slammed an unsheathed paw into its skull, its head lolled and it teetered the other way, only to be met with the tom's other paw. Louse giggled at how utterly battered it was as he came back to rest on all four paws. "How stupid is this thing?" he snorted. His eyes narrowed as Hazel spoke, guilt lacing her words, for whatever reason. His nose scrunched, she was fine he could have taken care of duckzilla on his own. Still, if she wanted to mope he wouldn't stop her.
