A soft sigh escaped Eveningmoon as she came to a brief stop, letting the wind rustle her pelt. Out of any duty she could have been given, hunting patrols were always among her favorites. She didn't think of herself as talented or anything, but it was something she was certain she could do - meanwhile she was terrified of border patrols lest they run into a rival patrol and didn't have any faith in her ability to fight when it came to practicing. ...She could maybe do herbs hunt, if she knew what a single one looked like. She glanced over at her hunting patrol - all cats she was passingly familiar with, though she knew Pantherpounce and Oatpaw a bit better.

Together with Pantherpounce, they had briefly shared Tigerstar as a mentor before Pantherpounce had gotten his warrior name while Oatpaw had started to reach out to her as a fellow apprentice before Eveningmoon had finally gained her warrior name. She was thankful for a chance to get to know them a bit more, even if hunting patrols weren't the best place to chat... She shook her head, glancing around as she realized it would maybe be better to actually do what Sootstorm had assigned of them. Her ears twitched as she caught sight of a grouse, its black feathers sticking out among the snow that still dotted the landscape. She dropped into a crouch, starting to stalk forward until she was close enough to make a dash towards it.

Its head swung to face her, wings beating as it tried to take flight as she made a leap. Her claws met feathers - but that was all she gained as she only managed to tear a few out before she was sent tumbling to the ground as the grouse made its escape. From where she laid on the ground, she watched it escape with a huff before she pushed herself to her paws and started to gather the feathers that she had torn loose. Well, at least these could be used to line a nest - she would have to find a place to store them for the rest of the hunt but at least that attempt wasn't fully in vain.

Eveningmoon attempted to catch a bird and failed, costing 5 stamina.

I don't live because I can't die, but I'm chained to something.

Pantherpounce calmly padded alongside the rest of the patrol and quietly scanned the moorland for any sign of prey. He enjoyed hunting patrols because they were usually a peaceful and productive way to pass the time. He was always down for a good spar or a border patrol to keep WindClan protected, but hunting patrols provided him with the ability to be one with WindClan's territory. He wasn't sure what he'd do if he had to live anywhere else for the rest of his life. No swamp or tree-shrouded forest could compare to the open moor or the taste of the rabbits that inhabited it.

The slightest fluttering of wings made the tom to pause and look for the cause. Birds weren't the most common sources of food, but they showed up on the ground every now and then. The dark-furred tom silently broke away from the patrol and quietly padded toward his prey with focused, narrowed yellow eyes. Pantherpounce closed the distance between them before pausing for a heartbeat to prepare his jump. The bird stretched its feathered wings, ready to fly away into the distance, but the warrior sprung forward before it could rise off of the ground. His claws sunk into its feathers and he killed it off swiftly and mercifully with a small bite to the neck. He nodded in satisfaction as the winged creature went limp.

pantherpounce successfully caught a bird! it cost him 5 sp.

Oatfluff hummed as he walked, a small smile on his face as he looked over his patrol. He brought up the rear as usual - out of a desire to protect his Clanmates or a simple laid-back attitude, he wasn't sure. But today would be a good day. He was sure of it! It was his first patrol since being named a warrior, and he was excited to prove himself as a full member of his Clan. His tail curled up behind him happily, the sun breaking through the clouds for the first time in moons and warming his pelt. Days like this made him grateful - for StarClan, for his Clanmates, for his home.

"Good catch, Pantherpounce!" Oatfluff called gently, trying not to disturb any prey that might be lurking nearby. He hadn't spoken with the older tom before, but Pantherpounce was certainly a familiar face. Was he in the mock battle? Oatfluff couldn't remember. He looked forward to getting to know the other warrior, though - he was glad Sootstorm had paired them up. And Eveningmoon. He'd spent almost his entire apprenticeship sharing a den with her. They'd never gotten particularly close, but he wanted to be better friends. Oatfluff's tail twitched - he wished he knew some of his Clanmates better. He blinked at the molly appreciatively and let his ears twitch with sympathy. "Those feathers will keep some lucky elder or queen nice and warm... I'm almost jealous!" He purred, doing his best to encourage his Clanmates.

But now it was his turn. The brown mottled tom tasted the air, closing his eyes as he tried to pick up any familiar prey-scent. It wasn't long before he picked something up, and he stalked toward it, keeping low and quiet. It was very familiar - a scent he caught often on the territory and the fresh-kill pile alike. Not quite rabbit, but stronger...

Hare. Oatfluff stopped in his tracks, trying to remember his training. How would Quickfrost have approached the hare? Hares didn't burrow like rabbits, he remembered her saying, so he had a pretty good shot at it as long as he kept the element of surprise. The fluffy tom positioned himself downwind, careful where he placed his paws, and crept forward until the large pale grey shape came into view. A gasp died in his throat. It was the fattest hare he'd ever seen - and in leafbare, too! Oatfluff's eyes widened, imagining sinking his teeth into the great hare. It could feed a few cats, not just two or three like a rabbit might. And by StarClan, did it look juicy...

Oatfluff bunched his muscles under him, then sprang after the hare, breaking out into an all-out sprint. The creature took off, but Oatfluff - heh - hared after it, changing his course and swinging to cut it off. When the tom was close enough, he reached out and slammed his paw into his prey, driving it to the ground. With one swift bite, he made the kill, coming away with a mouthful of fur. He purred, looking back toward his patrol with the hare in his jaws. The Clan will eat well tonight!

Oatfluff caught the hare, costing 5 SP!
