Urgency (c)

Blazefang’s voice carried a tone of urgency as Mottlestar entered the den.

“Mottlestar, I understand you’re in charge here, but you’re making a mistake. Vipershade is dangerous! During the Great Shake time, before I came here, something happened that was actually part of why I came here. ShadowClan and WindClan were allies and were both sheltering at Highstones. Two young WindClan warriors were caught hunting on the edge of ShadowClan territory. I for one would expect that during a forest-wide state of emergency, not to mention the alliance, the intruders would be assumed to be mistaken and would be reprimanded — sharply, of course— and escorted home for their leader to deal with. Instead, Vipershade, Nightstar at the time, and a large ShadowClan tom attacked the two young WindClan cats who were barely more than apprentices. The young cats were badly outmatched, and Vipershade and his warrior used near-lethal force anyway. They then proceeded to drag both cats, battered and bloody, back to Highstones and throw them at the paws of their leader. I don’t feel safe with a cat that violent around, and I doubt anyone else would who knew.”

Her glare had not gone away as she had finally dismissed the Clan, and went into her den. Her tail lashed, even, as soon as the warrior launched right into what she had to say. That did not mean that the tortoiseshell did not listen; but it did not dismiss her own emotions. The fact that Blazefang had not cared to follow any sort of protocol or reward the leader any semblance of respect that she was due. "First and foremost--" She began, pushing her way to the back of her den. "You know better than to demand a leader's attention like that, Blazefang. I understand your concern, but nevertheless, I am still your leader and due at least some respect." Her frustration ebbed out in her tone. She was unafraid to reprimand even her clanmates that had walked the forest longer than her when the time called for it.

"In terms of danger... Have you truthfully looked at him lately? He is in worse shape than even Dayquill was upon retirement. I have very high doubts that he would forsake the place that offered him shelter on the brink of death. But; should he show any semblance of genuine hostility, I will not hesitate to take his life with my own claws. I can vow that much. But my decision is final, and my offer to allow him to come to Thunderclan comes from before we left the forest."

Blazefang had acted rashly, but so had Mottlestar as far as she was concerned. The leader was thinking with her heart and not her head! Couldn’t she see? Blazefang stepped aside, closer to the entrance of the den, her fur bristling. Ears flattening, she grew more frustrated with every word Mottlestar said. “He won’t be weak forever. What happens when he heals? How much blood does he have to spill? And what of the other clans? Things are prickly enough already. I certainly doubt ShadowClan or WindClan will appreciate this! Your vows will mean nothing when they show up on our border demanding answers. Wait. You asked him to join before we even LEFT? Who all knew about this? Obviously not any of your senior warriors, or your elders! I don’t want to hear any more. I’ve said my piece. I’m going to my nest.” With that, Blazefang turned to leave the den.
