Small rest by the waves (o) Empty

Scorchlight purred pleasantly with her share of prey from the makeshift pile. She gladly made her way towards the temporary camp, starting to groom herself, licking her paws. Everything seemed so boring after they arrived—nothing to excite her. What would Sprucebark think if she hunted in this condition? She wiggled her tail; all she could do was stay restless. The rapid but gradual small licks were a small comfort to her.

Sunhigh made its way around. It seemed more patrols of cats were set out. Scorchlight figured she could do something useful for herself if she couldn't be helpful to the clan, right? She made her way down the shore, stretching her paws and legs, waiting for something to happen. She found a small, comfy alcove between a few shells, hesitatingly resting her paws. The few grains of sand mixed with the noise of the waves splashing across the shore soothed her. Maybe she could bring some shells back to Sprucebark to show her respect and love to him.

She smiled at all these happy thoughts popping up in her head. Taking a break for once was nice, instead of hunting and eating. She pawed a water vole she carried towards the alcove in hunger and started munching on the flesh of the vole, nibbling away at its remains before finishing the whole thing. She put aside the crumbs, hoping to see some cat hoping to interact with her. She was so bored and so cozy; she could even practically sleep in this condition.

Drowsily yawning, she wriggled her paws towards the sand, setting it atop the tiny, soft grains that filled her paws. It all felt so relaxing; relaxation was something she'd wish to the stars for. She finally got it—her paws softly spread across the sand as she stood there, feeling positive and calm. Rays of sun shone on her reddish-looking fur. Hope was something she hadn't felt in a long time, ever since the last gathering, but they had arrived. They had arrived somewhere which Scorchlight thought was safe. She sighed, resting closer to the splashes and waves.

For the longest of times, ever since his sister had drown in the river back home Sprucebark had feared the water. He felt silly at times fearing it while also being a riverclan warrior. His mind wandered thinking about the more recent even with willowwisp and how he had been too terrified to go help her even when he should have been able to. He felt guilty from that even though there was physically nothing more he could have done. Relived that everything had worked out well in the end too though.

He wandered aimlessly out of camp back closer to where it all happened. He just sat for a bit thinking about all the things above. Getting to his paws walking slowly down the lakeside shore. In the far distance he spotted his mate who looked very relaxed and comfortable as she played a bit in the sand looking out at the lake.

As the cool breeze across the lake ruffled his fur he finally felt a new feeling, he understood again and felt alive once more to the point of much happiness. He wasn’t sure exactly what it was that caused the sudden light switch like change that just triggered in his mind, perhaps it was even as simple as seeing how happy she was getting to be near the water lapping at her paws, but whatever caused it worked. He no longer felt the dread while looking out across the lake that he has when they first got here. He took a little sigh of a breath feeling like a 10-ton weight was removed off him. He let out a happy purr and went to the waters edge and dipped his paws in. The cool feeling of the water lapped all around his paws and felt so relaxing. He continued his walk in the very shallow water going along the shore to go to scorchlight.

Once he got closer he smiled and sniffed at the air realizing she had a little snack. “You feeling better?” He purred quietly and went to sit by her side. She made him feel so happy. They could be anywhere, this new place did not seem daunting anymore at all with her right by his side. This could be their new home forever and he would not mind one bit. Perhaps home wasn’t a location physically at all he wondered quietly to himself as he smiled looking out over the lake.
