Sandyshell
The medicine cat had rarely– if ever, seen Willowpaw in her den for any illness. The young she-cat seemed to reflect her shiny, pure, white coat in that sense. Sandyshell had kept a close eye on Willowpaw for recent illness this moon. It was easier than ever to contract poisoning now, and it worried her that some youths would not heed the word of their leader- or mother, in this case. Thankfully, Willowpaw seemed like the sensible type from what she could tell. Though this eased her wariness somewhat, she still packed a wet wad of moss to drink next to the apprentice’s herb bundle. This was Wrenpaw’s littermate after all, and she would not have her apprentice stressed about a potentially ill sister.
She gently nipped the moss and leaf wrap between her teeth, leaving her den with a regrettably empty stomach. The medicine cat stopped before the apprentice's den and set her items to the side. Though Willowpaw lagged behind her warrior siblings Sandyshell was glad to say that would soon be changing. She gently called into the den, “Wake up, Willowpaw. It’s time to leave for our trip and visit Starclan.”
Sandyshell stepped back and carefully slid the herbs and moss to the silver tabby. “These can be quite bitter, but they will hopefully keep up your strength and aid your hunger.” She avoided meeting Willowpaw's cold blue eyes, having learned before how uncomfortable they made her feel. The shy molly waited for Willowpaw to be ready, unsure what kind of conversation she should spark up– if any.

Willowpaw
Willowpaw roused when Sandyshell fetched her and she blinked the sleep from her eyes. It did not take long for her mind to be awake enough, but unfortunately, her body continued to feel like she was dragging rocks with her paws. Willowpaw slowly rose to her feet and obediently ate the herbs that Sandyshell provided. She thanked her when she was done and cleaned her face.
“I am ready when you are,” she meowed politely and rose to her feet. She looked calm outwardly, but her heart hammered a little harder in her chest. It was finally time for her to go to the Moonstone. She would be able to speak to a StarClan cat just like Perchstar told her about…and then she would be so close to being a warrior. It would just be up to Stormdance to decide if she’s really ready. Oh, she hoped that she was.
Willowpaw walked alongside Sandyshell as they set off towards the Highstones. Even though her hunger weighed on her like a boulder, she walked with her head high and with purpose. Excitement thrummed through her veins.
“What are StarClan cats like?” Willowpaw asked Sandyshell curiously. “Do they…judge cats, regarding if they are worthy of being warriors?”
Sandyshell blinked with equal curiosity. Was Willowpaw afraid Starclan wouldn’t accept her? Her expression grew soft and gentle, having feared the same thing herself. “Well… Yes, sometimes they do,” she admitted. “But think of them more like wise ancestors who want to help the new generation become the great warriors they can be. Some Starclan cats are helpful and kind. Some are teasing and some are strict. But most of the time, they are the cat who is right for you.” She ended with a small smile. “Does that help?”

“Here we are,” she said, glancing at Willowpaw. “Welcome to Mothermouth.” The cave entrance loomed above them. Moonlight illuminated the two she-cats’ tabby pelts. Sandyshell entered first, her fawn fur disappearing into its shadows with only a cream-tipped tail sticking out. “Stick close. Follow my tail with your whiskers so we don’t get lost.” With Willowpaw securely behind her, she wound through pitch-black tunnels until she found the light. “This is the Moonstone. When you’re ready to see Starclan touch your nose to its surface. Don’t be shy. And- and have fun.”

Willowpaw
Willowpaw looked to Sandyshell and she felt some of the nerves coiled up in her stomach relax. She trusted Sandyshell and her wisdom as a medicine cat. She interacted with StarClan the most, after all. If she said that they wanted what was best for her, and would be there to help rather than just to judge, then she will believe her. “It does help,” she confirmed quietly.
The rest of the walk was closer to relaxing now. Willowpaw’s stomach ached with hunger, but that was nothing new in this difficult season. She pushed through until they arrived at the Highstones. She stuck close to Sandyshell as instructed. When they arrived to the Moonstone proper, Willowpaw’s eyes went wide and her pupils dilated as she took in the beauty of the stone. She took a couple careful pawsteps forward. Willowpaw looked to Sandyshell for final confirmation. Have fun. She always thought this trip was very strict and for business, but Sandyshell indicated otherwise…Perhaps she will attempt to “have fun.” Her gaze returned to the rock and after taking another breath, she leaned forward and touched her nose to the cool surface.
When Willowpaw awoke in StarClan, her visitor would already be waiting by her side: shorter than Willowpaw was, with fur as white as dove's feathers. Her tail folded into view, curling around her forelegs to reveal a streak of russet against her paler body. Starlight caught in her every strand of fur, glimmering even in lichen green eyes. Perhaps that was why the faint mischief in them seemed particularly bright. "Well, well. Look at you." Cloverheart purred as Willowpaw found her bearings in the wetlands she found herself in. Her head tilted, up and back and to both sides, to take Willowpaw in in her entirety before turning to her look her in the eyes. Just the same blue as her mother's-- Cloverheart felt a little pang, wondering if there was an existence where she'd lived to meet Perchstar's kits in life, but she shook the feeling off and offered a wry grin.
"Well? Are you having fun yet?" Before an answer could even be considered, Cloverheart laughed for her own sake and carried on. "Probably not. Maybe I should give you a little longer to wake up." She shrugged, apparently unbothered with how awake Willowpaw was or wasn't, though she was polite enough not to bother with any more terribly pressing questions. Instead, she gave a gentle nudge to Willowpaw's shoulder to encourage her to advance on her paws and stepped forward, guiding her to walk leisurely across the lowland. "I guess I'll get the cursory fox-dung out of the way while you wake up," she hummed with a decisive nod.
"I was your mother's medicine cat, up until some green-leaf or two ago. Not for nearly long enough, but StarClan's never cared much for fair. But anyway-- my name is Cloverheart." She turned her attention back to Willowpaw, smile wide enough to now show teeth. "You're Willowpaw, and you might be your mother's child in the worst way. She's a good, smart cat, but I don't think relaxing is in her genes." Cloverheart rolled her shoulders with another laugh, barkier than her last. "I'm sure your heads never quiet. Do you want to stand here and talk with your time in StarClan, or do you want to do what Sandyshell said and have fun while you can? It's not like things are brimming with mirth down there, are they?"

Willowpaw
Willowpaw quickly turned to the cat that appeared before her in the land of the stars. Her eyes widened as she looked upon the stranger and took in her words. Her chest briefly twisted, hoping that she would not make a fool of herself in front of an ancestor, and then Cloverheart continued to speak and Willowpaw felt herself calm. Well, until she mentioned Willowpaw being like Perchstar in the worst way. The made Willowpaw’s fur bristle, although she did not move and her expression did not change. Did she really inherit all bad traits? Her mother was a beautiful, pristine, wonderful cat who could lead with the values of a true warrior. And Willowpaw…well. She was still here, an apprentice lagging behind.
She blinked at Cloverheart as her thoughts caught back up with her. She replied, “I’m…not sure. Sandyshell told me to have fun but I…suppose I don’t know what that means, exactly. I thought this trip was meant to receive wisdom.”
