Minkkit's Apprentice Ceremony

He couldn't believe his daughter had grown up so fast. He didn't know what to think, but he was certain it only was yesterday she was born. The tall deputy jumped on the rock to call out to his clan. "Let all cats old enough to run the moor gather here for a clan meeting!"

Minkkit had been waiting for this day since... well, the day she was old enough to understand what a warrior was. She had been six moons for only a night or two, but the moment she heard her father's voice call out, Minkkit knew: this was for her! She gave herself a quick but thorough wash, smoothing down some of the ruffled fur around her neck, and then sauntered into the clearing, tail high, ears pricked forward. She didn't bother sitting.

Today we are gathered to name another apprentice. Minkkit, you have reached the age of six moons, please come forward." The lanky deputy waited for his daughter to come forward pleased that she had straightened some of her fur out. "Minkkit from this moment on, until you earn your warrior name, you will be known as Minkpaw. Your mentor will be Jayfrost." Jayfrost was the only warrior he knew would teach Minkpaw right. The only cat, besides himself, that would make her into a fine warrior. With that decided the deputy jumped down to great his newly named daughter and her mentor.

Jayfrost raised his eyes from his own dusty paws when his name was mentioned, expressing a little more interest than usual when he saw that it was Tigerdance on top of the Tallrock. "Hm?" His query could hardly be heard over the cheers of his clanmates, but he stepped forwards, quickly understanding what was happening. A kit - well, apprentice now, he supposed, stood before him.  A twinge of unhappiness struck him when he saw who the cat was, but quickly pushed it down. Tigerdance had trusted him, he'd not break his trust.

Wordlessly, he touched noses with Minkpaw, muttering something brief about training the next day. Jayfrosts brows furrowed as he looked down at Minkpaw, then up to Tigerdance, then back down again. He relaxed. He would think about it later.
