Crocuspaw was still new to the hunting scene, inexperienced, and much larger than a lot of her clanmates as well. She was struggling to adapt to the crouches that her clanmates kept showing her over and over again. Her tail was shorter, and her paws she was still growing into, made the balancing a bit trickier- but at least she had a big nose, perfect for scenting and tracking- but those weren't useful skills unless she could catch what she was smelling. But the pressure was on now, with what she was told was unprecedented prey drops. Thunderclan was starving, and Crocuspaw was certainly feeling it in her belly and her ribs, with how violently her belly growled. She was ever-growing and needed to food to keep up with her growth demands.
Crocuspaw tilted her head into the air, sniffing with her mouth open to help the scent brush over scent glands.
Something smelling of rich grass and dirt wafted across Crocuspaw's nose, and the young apprentice immediately transitioned to a crouch, sharp eyes searching for the source of the smell. Once her eyes laid on a creature with long ears and was remarkably large, the pressure was certainly on. Her belly seemed to roar as she was looking at it, a tension creeping into her body as she stalked near-mindlessly towards it, her ears and senses blind to everything else but the prey in front of her. She got very close before it startled, and with hunger as a great motivator, Crocuspaw shot off like a dart.
She made ground quickly, her heavier body colliding with the rabbit as they rolled into the brush and brambles where Crocus crushed its neck between her jaws. She didn't care for cleanliness, this was the best catch in a while, and it was surely going to be eaten and gobbled down in heartbeats once they got back to camp. Her belly growled again. And her mouth started to heavily salivate, drenching where she had bitten as she reluctantly pulled away.
It wasn't for her. It wasn't for her. She won't be allowed. It wasn't right. But dear Starclan and The Moon she was so so so hungry. There was a profound sadness on the young apprentice's face as she grabbed it by its scruff and carried it back to the patrol. She continued to chant to herself that she wouldn't be allowed to have it, that she shouldn't give herself hope that just maybe her patrol mates would see how sad she was and let her eat her fill. This had to go to the queens, elders, kits, and sick first. Not her. She scuffed leaf litter over it and rejoined the hunt. Sniffing for more scents again.
