Leafall Prep [open SC herb hunt]

Before the heavy rain season picks up, Heatherberry wanted to go about the slightly dried up marshland in search of herbs in preparation. Although the marshes were shallower this time of year, it was still wise to watch your step. "Alrighty! Please watch every pawstep carefully, and NEVER touch anything or put anything in your mouth without letting me examine it first." Just like last time, she emphasized the importance of following directions. "Once you've found something, don't hesitate to call for me." She nudged Skunkpaw, leaning to whisper in his ear, "You'll be following me so you don't get stuck in the mud. Here, sniff this and tell me what you remember it from." She pushed some celandine - one of the herbs used to sooth his eyes after he'd gone blind - towards the blind apprentice.

Heatherberry found Celandine, adding it to the pile.

Herb Hunting Rolls
1: Poison
2-3: Useful every day herb (Sticks, Borage, Dandelion, Daisy leaf, Cob nuts, Marigold)
4-5: Good herb (Coneflower, Cobwebs, Poppy seeds, Burnet)
6: Great herb (Celandine, Chickweed, Rush)

Swiftheart practically skipped over to the herb patrol as it started.  She was in her usual high spirits and had energy to spare as always.  She purred softly in greeting and gave a friendly hello to skunkpaw and deliretly walked a bit louder so that he could hear where she was.  

She also heard that maybe her daughter crow would be able to join them? Which made her very happy.  She loved getting to spend time with crow and when their busy schedules did cross it was a great time to check up on her too.

She listened attentively to her good friend as she explained the herb hunt and nodded eagerly.  Got it! We are gonna find the best herbs for you to use heatherberry, promise! she purred enthused.  

She set out and sniffed around for any plants she might have recognized


Soon after, she spotted a pretty looking plant with red berries. But squinting at them soon after she frowned thinking she knew those pretty little berries were not so good at all beside to just look at. And while she couldn’t be certain without a med cat, the sure looked like the terrible death berries.

She made sure to not go near them and called for heatherberry uhm heatherberry? I think these are the not so good plants… should we dig them up by the roots so that no kit accidentally gets to them? she asked waiting to see what the med cat would want to do with such a nasty poison

"Very good, Skunkpaw! You've a keen nose on you." She purred, relieved to see him doing better than she had thought. A call from the chipper Swiftheart made her head turn, the white she-cat standing over bright red berries. She tapped Skunkpaw to single him to stay put as she bounded over. "We've no need for something like this. You're right: let's remove them by the roots to rot elsewhere." Careful to not touch the berries, overgrown claws dug into the dirt, scrambling it to bring up the roots of the plant.

As she did so, a dried bulb that rattled popped up out of the ground: poppy seeds! "And with poison comes cure, it seems. This bulb holds enough poppy seeds to last a few moons! A lucky find."

Swiftheart was glad to have her friend tell her for certain that yes, that was a poison plant she dug at its roots wanting to help dig out the icky plant and rid it so that no one would be hurt by it.

Once disposed of she looked around for more herbs, she had been distracted enough from the digging out of the poison plant that she had not seen skunkpaw wander off yet.


She didnt find much and she sighed a bit unsure of what exactly to find she did see a nice stick that was perfectly straight and looked very strong too!

She tugged it free of the marshy ground and wiped away the mucky off it.

She grinned holding it up in her front paws mesuring it sort of. It was about the same length of a cat leg, useful if someone needed a cast.

"Oh look! I got a stick... hmm idk how useful it will be though... I think it would only be useful if it could somehow talk to you or somehow reveal information about cats that lived long ago... she giggled, she was always one to be playful and what not.

"But lets be real, that is just plain silly and VERY ridiculous" (lil poke at the third series, just a tiny little jab at that )


she kept the stick close in case someone broke their leg in the future, though that would be all it would EVER be good for ;)
