Adventure lives in the Shadows (Open)

It was finally the day!

This was finally the day! Marshkit had watched while his mother left the nursery. The soft-spoken she-cat had told him that he was old enough to go out into the camp on his own. Past the safety of her paws and a mere tail length from the entrance. He scrambled up out from the nursery with eager blue eyes while he took a good look around. The thorn and bramble that surrounded the hollow had never looked quite so big. His ears perked at every noise while his head turned around quickly to try and identify it. Little pink nose twitched at every strange scent while he slowly took a few steps from the nursery.

One, then another... he peered over at the fresh-kill pile. A large brown paw reached up to poke a frog which slid towards him. Eyes wide, he jumped and arched his back. Fresh-kill was supposed to be dead, right? Slowly he crept back forward and poked it again before running back a couple paces. Hunkering down to watch and see if it moved again. It didn't. Slowly, the little tom took a deep breath and sat back up. The frog stayed motionless.

Swiftheart was always eager to meet the new kits of the clan. She was the clans extraverted happy cat. Filled with energy. Even though she was one of the more experienced warriors in the clan she still held the energy of an apprentice or kit in how she was constantly excited and happy over things.

She watched the kit from a distance away wanting to see what he would do about the frog.

Her white pelt was easy to see now and her blue eyes flickered back and forth between the frog and curious kit who had just stumbled out of the nursery.

"you can do it marshkit. You can catch it!" she whispered to herself quietly waiting eagerly to see if the kit would go for it.

she stayed very still not wanting to interrupt and not wanting to scare the frog away

Marshkit tilted his head at the still frog. A low breeze rustled some of the trees far above, making the shadows flicker for a moment. It gave the brief impression that the frog had moved and he immediately sank back down on his haunches. One large black paw in front of the other, he slowly crept back towards it. Blue eyes almost unblinking in his concentration before he settled them next to each other, then bounded forward. His right paw landed in front of his left as he tried to land on the frog, then felt his paw slip and stumbled over the front paws, toppling onto his back over where the fresh-kill was.

A tan and black head popped up from the pile and the dirt and mud around it, his little nose wrinkled up into a sneeze while he looked at where the frog lay on its back now. As still as it had been before.
