Like Deja Vu [C]

Falconmoon lead Jaypaw to the creek, the site of many, many trainings of apprentices. It was a great place to start, as prey often came here to drink. Falconmoon sunk into a low crouch and stalked professionally forward with near perfect silence. "Start by copying me. Sink down as low as you can, until it hurts, then move forward and practice being quiet. Don't let your belly drag the ground and don't let your tail drag any leaves or sticks with you. Practice this for a moment, then tell me when you're ready to be shown how to catch prey." Falconmoon paused and waited to observe his apprentice's actions. If needed, he'd give gentle corrections with his paw.

It was Jaypaws first time on SkyClan's hunting grounds, and he’d have nothing but high hopes for it. Then suddenly Falconmoon did a low crouch stalking perfectly forward. It was a sight to see, with a skilled mentor like Falconmoon there was no way his training would be lackluster. For that which he was grateful for. He did as instructed starting by coping his mentor. He went all the way down until it hurt, but he knew that he would get used to that as Falconmoon seemingly had. He moved forward being as quiet as possible, still not on the level of Falconmoon but it was quiet.

He hadn’t let his belly drag on the ground, and left his tail low but not low enough to catch on sticks or leaves. He practiced it for a few moments getting used to the movements, at last he was ready. “Alright, I’m ready now Falconmoon” he mewed confidently. Not wanting to disappoint his mentor.

Falconmoon watched his progress and gave a nod. That would do well enough. "When you catch prey, you'll want to kill it as fast as you can. It's better for the prey that way, and it reduces the chances of you losing it. I'll teach you how to hunt on the ground for now, and you'll learn how to hunt in the trees later on. Sound good?"

Falconmoon's ear caught the scent of a squirrel's teeth grinding against an acorn and he turned his attention to it. He stalked forward, twitching his tail ever so slightly to signal his apprentice to follow to observe. The squirrel was young, comfortably nibbling away at it's prize on a low hanging branch. A big mistake that a lot of squirrels made when they were young still. Oh well, cats had to eat too.

Falconmoon crept forward, then once within reasonable leaping distance, he leaped for it, claws outstretched.

The squirrel was taken off of the branch in a flash. Falconmoon's teeth struck down with the speed of lightning to end it's life, killing it before it could make a single sound. He picked it up and showed it to his apprentice, though he was humble about it rather than smug. He stashed it away beneath the roots of an old tree for later.

"Alright, you give it a shot now."

Jaypaw felt himself feel a little taller at Falconmoon's approving nod. “Yes” he wanted to have a short response as Falconmoon seems like the type that you can’t waste time with. Falconmoon seems serious however Jaypaw knows he means well, at least seems like he means well. He had noted what Falconmoon said to catch things fast that would be important, ground for now trees later which confused him at first. Wasn't this clan's name SkyClan?

Jaypaw watched in an amazement as Falconmoon jumped on the Squirrel still with seemingly perfect movements, could his mentor go wrong anywhere?, He vaguely thought. Falconmoon had showed him the piece of prey, Jaypaw still in amazement. He was brought back to reality when Falconmoon said it was his turn. Could he really do this? He knew he hadn’t the skill of Falconmoon, but the bright side of his mind was telling him he could show his mentor he could do it. “Alright, let’s do this” he mewed confidently.

Jaypaw started by sniffing the area he had sniffed a robin, but he hadn’t learn how to hunt in trees yet so he ignored it. He sniffed more and only a moment later a squirrel entered the area, he raced toward it quiet as possible. He had been behind a bush with the squirrel on a tree on the other side, he checked.. lowest branch. So he prepared his legs to jump & his prepared his mouth to strike as Falconmoon had. Then, leapt claws outstretched.

As soon as the squirrel realized he was there it tried to run, but before it could run he caught it, he bit down hard, and fast as Falconmoon had just told him to do. That was probably the only reason he caught it. If he was delayed even slightly it could have escaped. He felt nothing, but pride seeping from him. Then looked at his mentor, and showing him is first catch. “How did I do?”

He noted Jaypaw's moment of hesitation, but at least the apprentice had the grit to try it despite his nervousness. That was a sign of a great potential warrior. He remained quiet as his apprentice stalked the squirrel. His form was correct and his judgement was too... it all came down to nerves. Jaypaw leaped and even for a moment, Falconmoon held his breath.

At the successful catch, Falconmoon smiled and stood straighter. "You're a quick learner! Excellent work, Jaypaw!" The apprentice had earned the compliment. He turned in the direction of where he'd stashed his own squirrel and beckoned with his tail for the apprentice to follow. "You can bury it with mine. It'll be easier to find them all if we leave them in one sp-" Falconmoon saw movement by his stashing spot and dropped immediately into a crouch. Luckily, this predator wasn't too terribly large... but could be very annoying to hit.

A snake was slithering back and forth over the spot where Falconmoon had buried the squirrel. The legless creature was clearly confused by the strong scent but lack of actual prey item. Falconmoon rolled his eyes and sighed.

"Want to help me take care of this? Snakes can be hard to hit sometimes. Don't worry, this one isn't venomous, but it won't give up without a fight either." Truly, the snake was more of a nuisance than anything, but that didn't mean Falconmoon wanted his or his apprentice's noses and paws bit. He started forward and gave an angry growl.

"Get out of here, you!" He swatted at it, hoping it would just leave.

The snake hadn't been expecting cats to show up and bother it while it was searching for the invisible squirrel. It dodged the first strike, but now it was angry! It struck it's teeth out in response, stubbornly fighting the other animals to defend it's prize.

Jaypaw was delighted to hear Falconmoon's response, that he had done excellent work. Then Falconmoon had headed in the direction where he buried his own. Then he started to talk on where he should burry it, then of course a snake had to ruin his hunting session with his mentor. Just his luck. He watched as his mentor dropped into a crouch. He quickly did the same.

He was excited at the suggestion of battle training, this would be his first time battling something as hard to hit as a snake compared to fighting trees or swaying falling leaves as a kit. “I’m ready to fight!” He mewed confident in his skills. Before he did anything he quickly buried the squirrel right behind him, hopefully the snake wouldn’t go for him because he did that.

Jaypaw watched as Falconmoon swatted at the snake barely missing, I guess some battles come down to luck. he thought before deciding what he would do himself. Lucky for him not so much his mentor, the snake went straight for his mentor. Again luckily the snake wasn’t very poisonous as Falconmoon told him earlier. Now then time for his attack, and lunged at the snake with sharp teeth. It did nothing, a stroke of unluckiness after luck, made sense to him.

Jaypaw used Snap costing 7 SP … rolling to see if he hits, he doesn’t so no damage.

Falconmoon scowled at the wiggly creature. He'd had enough. He kicked off of the ground, sprang from a nearby tree, then leaped right onto the snake to pin it.

"There. Now try finishing it." He said casually as the snake angrily writhed its body around one of Falconmoon's forelimbs. Its head was pinned. It wasn't going to be a threat for too much longer.

Jaypaw was relieved to see Falconmoon had finally been able to hit the snake, and actually pin it. Falconmoon had told him to finish it. He didn’t think a regular strike with his paw would kill it, so he had to think of something else. Well, what if I bite it’s neck hard enough? It’s not venomous right? he thought quickly as Falconmoon had been expecting of him to act. Then he bite the snake on the neck right next to where Falconmoon had its head, killing it. He felt pride in killing his first snake, however he didn’t know what to do next, he just simply asked “Well, what now?”
