Subject: first position [open to kits] Sun 2 Jul 2023 - 9:52
Scarletkit was nothing if not confident. So confident, in fact, that after play-sparring with his father he had decided he had trained enough for one day and wanted to play with the other kits instead. Rolling around and training to hopefully someday beat warriors for real was fun, yeah- so was learning to swim with his mother- but there was something to be said about the simple joy of just playing.
He slowly crept up on a nearby kit, pouncing at the last second. "Hey! Let's play!"

Pigeonkit
Her littermates were getting out of the nursery really, really fast all of a sudden. They were six moons now, so it wasn't exactly unexpected, but– Pigeonkit watched Perchstar move past the Willow Branch, sitting up straighter with hope, but the bicolored molly crossed camp to join a gathering patrol. A paw stamped the earth and Pigeonkit pouted watching her go. Dove and Raven and Swan and even Morningpaw! The nursery was so quiet and boring without them. She still had Crowkit, but ugh. When would it be her turn–
Another kit suddenly pounced at her, and Pigeonkit scrambled to her paws, whirling around to face her attacker. Her tail was bristling from surprise, but she was smiling wide by the time she spun to face Scarletkit. She didn't really know him at all, yet, beyond being denmates, but she was hardly one to turn down play, especially not as an alternative to fussing over her ceremony. Pigeonkit reached out, giving him a few firm baps to the snout with a series of hearty cackles. "Play what? Play fight? Play Clan? Mossball, y'wanna try sneakin' out of camp, whatwhatwhat?"

"Sneaking out of camp's too risky," Scarletkit dismissed that idea quickly, registering the cat in front of him as Pigeonkit. He was familiar with her in passing, interested in getting to know her- and the rest of their shared denmates- a little better before they were finally apprenticed. "I don't really care what we play, though. Hey, you ever try sparring? My dad's taught me some stuff, so I've already got a head start! Bet I could beat you," he boasted, with a playfully challenging stare.
He hoped she would rise to the challenge. He wanted a chance to show off everything he'd been learning, and it was more fun to spar with someone that was actually at least kind of close to his size- there was no way he was actually going to win a fight against his father, but here? He stood an actual chance.

Pigeonkit
Pigeonkit pouted at the dismissal, tail waving once with displeasure. “Yeah, ‘s risky, but that’s why ‘s fun!” She huffed, puffing her chest out a little. Scarletkit had other ideas, at least, which were quick to shake the chastised look from her. “’Course I’ve tried sparrin’! I’m older than you, ‘n’ I’ve got, like, six siblings!” Laughing, Pigeonkit drops into an unbalanced crouch, blue eyes focused on Scarletkit and rump wiggling. “I don’t like losin’, either, so good luck!” She announces before jumping straight forward to bowl Scarletkit into the sand.

Pigeonkit had a point, that the risk made things interesting; but Scarletkit wasn't about to admit that he was wrong. "You're not that much older than me," he argued, but her point of having six siblings did make sense. Then again, he had no siblings; but that didn't mean he had no experience-- his father had made sure of that. "Well, it's not like I know if they'd even want to fight," he defended himself, puffing up his chest. "I've been busy training!"
This boast was punctuated by Pigeonkit bowling into him and knocking him down, to which he cried out something about "Fair play!" and then rolled back onto his paws.
"Okay, so we're gonna play it like that?" he asked, grinning as he charged her. "Got it! Aaand... Gotcha!"
He leapt atop her in his best approximation of a pin, seeming incredibly pleased with himself.
So pleased, in fact, that he was no longer paying as much attention to his target as he probably should have.
