Kitten's first playmate reboot [closed]

Since the discovery of the orphaned kit, and her arrival at Thunderclan's camp, Amberpaw had given Firefly and Peonykit space so they could each adjust to their new lives. A couple of days had passed, and Amberpaw couldn't stop thinking of the tiny calico. She's far too young to understand what actually happened, Amberpaw thought as he sat alone in a remote corner of camp. He doubted she would ever understand her origins...or even fully remember being discovered in the forest. And that's okay. She doesn't need to know. She already has a loving mother, who is alive. That's the most important thing. The rest is between Firefly and Peonykit...if Firefly wants Peonykit to know, then that's her decision. Not mine.


It was due time he visited the nursery again - after all, he had two good friends in the nursery now: Fawnkit and Peonykit. Amberpaw rose to his paws and stretched, raising his fluffy orange tail toward the sky. Then, the red-swirled tabby padded over to the nursery. He peeked his head inside, scanning the nests for his friends. Fawnkit was nowhere to be seen, but Amberpaw spotted Peonykit amongst the young clan members inside. "Peonykit," the tom called gently, beckoning to her with a paw. He suddenly had a flashback to his own kithood, being urged out of the nursery by an apprentice who became one of his best friends. Except, he was the apprentice now. Who would've guessed?

Peonykit was lying down in in her moss bed just enjoying the silence when she heard Amberpaw calling for her. She looked up to see the orange tom at the entrance with his head turned towards her. She gave him a small smile before getting to her tiny white paws. "Hello Amberpaw, How are you today." She mewed quietly, even though she was closer to Amberpaw then others in the clan, she was still a little bit shy around him.

Peonykit was enjoying the new life with her mother and Amberpaw but was still confused about a lot of things that go around in this clan. She got some of the basics down, but its hard for a tiny kit to remember all of the information that was given to her in one moment. Peonykit was padding towards Amberpaw as she was thinking about what she was going to do with him today. Amberpaw had been a big help on her for understanding the clan life so she was excited to see what today would lead too, of course not showing the excitement on the outside.

The shyness that encapsulated Peonykit brought some warmth to his heart. She's so sweet. If ANYONE hurts her, I will hurt them. This sudden thought briefly scared Amberpaw, but he found satisfaction in the idea of protecting this little one from harm. Peonykit's biological mother had died before getting to see her grow up. In honor of the queen's life, Amberpaw would personally see to it that the orange, black, and white-patched kitten remained safe and secure to adulthood. And beyond that, Amberpaw wouldn't let Peonykit face the same fate as her parent. The young tom kept these thoughts hidden under his reserved expression.


"I am doing fine, thank you," Amberpaw purred, impressed by Peonykit's manners. Once she was out of the nursery, Amberpaw scooped her close with a paw, once again feeling the urge to protect her. The tom bent his large body down beside her and said, "Want to see the rest of camp today? I'll give you a tour!" Briefly, his playful nature from kithood flashed in his amber eyes as he spoke to the little she-kit.

Peonykit was a little shocked at the pull but enjoyed it nonetheless, as she smiled up at him with the excitement gleaming through her eyes. "I get to finally see the whole camp?!" she mewed loudly, excitement flooding through, making her forget to even be shy. As a kit she wasnt allowed to be too far from the nursery and so never really learned how the camp worked let alone see how everyone lived their lives.

Her tiny tail swished in excitement of all the things she was assuming she would see, like cats chatting away, mentors teaching their apprentices, cats coming back from a hunt, you name it! She couldnt wait to see the world, but decided she would have to stick to the camp for now.

Amusement tickled Amberpaw's chest as he saw the kit fill with excitement. He nodded a yes to Peonykit's question, then started off on their tour. He gave a flick of his tail, signaling for Peonykit to follow. "We'll even start at the Highrock - that's where Mottlestar lives." He kept his large strides slow so that Peonykit could keep up.

Peonykit padded after amberpaw in excitement wondering if mottlestar was in her den. Her mother has told her a lot about her grandmother and she was excited to go see her. From what peonykit heard from her mother, she had a big family. Not much is known to the tiny kit but she at least knew that the clan leader was her grandmother. "How would someone go up there if they were scared of heights?" she mewed looking towards the giant rock they were walking towards. She knew something about a cat standing on top of the rock but never asked if they ever got scared.

Amberpaw hadn't really thought of Peonykit's question before. "I suppose they wouldn't go up there if they were afraid of heights. Let's hope we never have a leader who is," the tom replied, deep voice hinting of laughter. "Mottlestar surely isn't afraid of heights. She always scales the Highrock for ceremonies and announcements. Acornstem, too - she's the deputy, meaning she helps Mottlestar with leadership duties." Amberpaw left out the part of the deputy taking over if the leader were to die...Peonykit was too young to discuss death with.

The fire-colored tom stopped at the base of the large, worn boulder and peered up at it with respect. Amberpaw imagined himself up there one day, addressing the clan from a position of authority - a dream every kit and apprentice had. "Mottlestar's den is on the backside of the Highrock, but we better stay out of there." Amberpaw paused and, turning his attention to the kit, asked, "Any more questions about the Highrock, the leader, or the deputy?"

Peonykit listened with interest as she learn more about the clan. Hmm did she have any questions. Well she had a million but could she narrow them down to just simple questions about the leader, deputy, or rock. As peonykit thought it over she realized none of her questions matched anything for the rock so she had none. "Nope, where to next!" she mewed happily, almost looking like she was on her claws in anticipation.

Amberpaw gave Peonykit a smile, then moved on in their tour. "Since we're on the topic of leadership, we'll go to the medicine cat's den next." Amberpaw lead the she-kit to the dense fern tunnel that made up the entrance to the den in question. From the outside, it wasn't much to look at, but Amberpaw knew that this entrance concealed a sunny clearing inside. "The medicine cats not only heals the sick and injured, but they receive guidance from Starclan. They often receive prophecies and messages meant to guide and instruct the clan. Medicine cats are the spiritual leaders among the clans. Thunderclan's current medicine cat is Fawnshine, and her apprentice is Echopaw." He paused, to let this sink in and give Peonykit the chance to ask questions.

Peonykit listened in wonder at all the amazing knowledge she was being taught. She thought of some questions to ask. ""Does syarclan choose a medicine cat? How does one know they are a medicine cat? Does a Medicine cat get to see starclan a lot?" she mewed her questions with a smile.

"Usually, medicine cats choose their apprentices - any willing cat, usually a kit around six moons. But, Starclan approves or disapproves of the choice. So, technically Starclan plays a role in choosing medicine cats. If one has a strong passion for helping others, and an affinity for herbs and plants, then typically said cat is a good choice for the medicine cat position, although I'm not sure any cat knows they should be a medicine cat." Amberpaw paused for a breath.

"As for seeing Starclan a lot - medicine cats meet once a month at the Moonstone to share dreams with our ancestors. So, yes - they see Starclan more than most, I would say." Amberpaw waited for any more questions.

Peonykit nodded along as her questions were answered. Now she understood medicine cats better and realized just how important they are to the clan. "I have no more questions." she mewed, smiling up at the bigger tom.

Amberpaw nodded, then moved on with the tour. "Elders den is next." He headed off in that direction, making sure that Peonykit was scuttling along with him. He was surprised at how much he enjoyed teaching - perhaps something he picked up from his wonderful mentor, Briarrose. As the large Maine coon looked down at the little calico, he thought that he would very much like to have an apprentice some day. I wonder if I'd be a warrior in time to mentor Peonykit? He thought that would be very neat - the two of them already shared a strong bond and she seemed to look up to him. She reminded Amberpaw a lot like Fawnkit.

The pair reached the fallen tree that formed the backbone of the Elder's den. It was concealed by tall grass and brambles, but some elders could be heard stirring within. "Here it is," Amberpaw announced as he stopped outside the entrance. "Do you know anything about the elders yet?"

Peonykit thought about it before nodding. "Elders are really old clan mates that cant do their duties anymore. They tell the clan stories of their time and pass on their knowledge to the kits." She mewed with a big smile

"Well done, Peonykit," Amberpaw purred with a smile. He affectionately swooshed his fluffy tail past her cheek. "Sometimes, apprentices have to remove ticks from the elders' pelts with mouse bile. It's my...least favorite duty." Amberpaw crunched up his face in disgust. "But, the bright side is I learn a lot from the elders when I do that. They are very knowledgeable. If you ever have questions about the history of the clan cats or Thunderclan, the elders are the cats to go to."

Feeling like there wasn't much more to say about the elders, Amberpaw decided to move on. "Next up: the apprentice's den, my current place of residence." The ginger tom padded onward through camp, making sure Peonykit stuck close by.
