It was the first hunting patrol of the day and Redpaw was obnoxiously excited. He'd asked specifically to go on a patrol to where there would certainly be large-bodied prey, like squirrels and rabbits. He wanted to catch something he had to physically wrestle down and overpower, something he could really go all-out on! Once the patrol had reached their destination - a place half open, half covered in underbrush - he let out an excited hiss, "Whoever catches the biggest thing wins!", before dashing off.

He had to wait a moment for his heart to quiet down a bit before he started searching, his eyes, ears, and nose primed for any sign of prey. After a while he realized he could hear the sound of vegetation getting pulled up. Curious and with his excitable heart starting up again, he carefully peered towards the source, which turned out to be a rabbit digging a warren. Before he knew it his paws had already started to move and he ran headlong at the rabbit. It spooked and started running away from him, but he continued to give chase, slowly gaining on it until it stumbled. Redpaw's claws flashed and he grappled the creature tight against his body, twisting and warping himself around it until he could finally kill it. "Yeah!" Oops. Everyone else was still hunting, weren't they?

At Redpaw's exclamation, a determined look crossed Amberpaw's face. He was going to win the competition, no matter what. Hunting was his favorite, after all. The amber tabby lifted his nose, picking up the scent of a nearby squirrel. Amberpaw traced it to a nearby batch of tall grass and crouched down. He spotted the creature from his hiding spot - it was a rather young squirrel, and small in size. So much for biggest thing. Yet, he pounced for the kill anyway...

...and caught it with ease.

Amberpaw attempted to catch squirrel for 3 SP. It was a success!

❖ Briarrose had been pleased to hear her brother, Redpaw, express interest in joining a hunting patrol. She hadn't spent much time with the tom for a while now and had missed doing so. Also, having Amberpaw tagging along was quite a pleasant bonus; her apprentice needed some more paws-on experience with hunting. It was a good way to gauge his current skill level. However, what she hadn't expected from the patrol was that it supposedly turned into a competition. Hearing Redpaw's declaration had made her whiskers twitch in amusement. Just by seeing Amberpaw's determined look, he'd be participating as well. Briarrose decided to be a judge-chaperone of sorts. She'll let the others have fun if they so wish but today, she only felt like some regular old hunting. Maybe, if this sort of thing happens again, she'll join in herself. ღ

❖ The warrior remained nearby, in case the apprentices needed her. She didn't want trouble but she had to be prepared for anything. She silently sighed and refocused on the current task. Briar scented the air as she quietly padded along her chosen route. After a while of wandering, the warrior's senses buzzed when the familiar scent of a robin was made clear to her. The stoic molly dropped into the hunting crouch and silently stalked her prey. It didn't take long for her to close in and once she was as close as she could get, she pounced. ღ

❖ In the blink of an eye, the small bird was gone and she felt herself collide with a much larger feathered creature, shoulders stinging from the accidental strike of its merciless talons. She let out a hiss from frustration and pain. Not now! She semi-blindly struck it with her unsheathed paws before standing up on her hind legs and bringing down her paws upon its head. It screeched and wiggled around furiously but remained down, stunned. She had bought herself some time. ღ

❖ "Owl!" was the only thing she called out to the rest of the patrol before turning back her attention to the said owl. She was going to do her best to protect the apprentices—her brother didn't need it since he had quite a lot of experience but it was just in her nature to be protective. ღ

He’d been searching for a place to stash his rabbit when Redpaw heard his sister’s yowl. An owl? Choosing to haphazardly toss the catch into a bush, he dashed to where the scuffle was. “Raauuu-ghhhff!!” His battle-empassioned cry spilled from his throat as he dashed to where the creature lay dazed, crunching one of its legs in his jaws while still yelling. The tom’s teeth crushed and crunched until he could finally feel - and hear - the cracking of bone. The owl’s pained cries told him he’d hit the mark well. It wouldn’t be using that leg any time soon. He still jumped out of the way of its flexing talons though.

The owl’s blood smeared on his mouth, he gave his sister a thoroughly joyful meow, “I think you won, Briarrose! Amberpaw! What d’you think?” If they could bring this down, everyone at camp would be quite pleased, he thought.

Redpaw used Snap on Owl! It dealt 6 damage and used 7 stamina.

Thrushnose had been walking behind the patrol, finding amusement in the competition Redpaw had set up for his fellow clanmates to hunt in. If anything, this little game the young tom hosted would not be just entertainment but also provide bountiful prey for the clan—something he was sure anyone would appreciate. A smile found its way across his maw as each apprentice and warrior hunted on their own. However, things seemed almost too peaceful before the sudden appearance of a pair of sharp talons colliding into Briarrose, bowling them both over to the side.

"Briarrose!" He found himself calling out, eyes on high alert as he hurled himself toward the predator. Sharp claws swung down, tearing at the avian's wing to prevent it from flight. Along with the crush of its legs in Redpaw's jaws, he highly doubted it would be able to escape left untraumatized; that is if it did manage to escape at all. It would realize soon that it had made a huge mistake striking their hunting patrol. "Are you alright?" The question was directed towards Briarrose.

Thrushnose has used Front Paw Strike on Owl for 7 SP, dealing 8 damage!

As Amberpaw returned to the party with his little squirrel, he saw the battle scene unfold before him. Everything happened in a flash: the owl's attack on Briarrose, Redpaw and Thrushnose's rescue. Yet, the owl still had not been taken down. The tom dropped his squirrel and ran into the action, picking up speed as he approached. With a yowl, Amberpaw lowered his head and rammed straight into the owl. He felt the lightweight body fly through the air, away from the cats. Good. Keep the danger away from everyone.

"Yes, Redpaw! Briarrose, you won!" He tried to keep the tone light to deflect everyone's minds from the dire situation they had just gotten out of. He then turned to his mentor Briarrose, concern filling his eyes. Was she okay?
