Letting the sound of the wind in his ears drown out the camp's chatter, Smallbean watched the clan for just a moment before calling out to them. "Let all cats old enough All cats old enough to run the moors gather around the Tallrock for a clan meeting!" He was worried, afraid of being judged, but this needed to be done. Besides, this wasn't about him. This was about the kit getting apprenticed today. Squinting against the sunlight, he tried to make out the figures coming from the nursery. Hopefully Nectarkit was one of them.

Sootstorm was the first to settle down below the Tallrock. He gave the deputy a bright smile, then curled his tail around his paws and waited patiently for the ceremony to begin. If it was a ceremony.

At the sound of Smallbean's call for a clan meeting, Nectarkit bounded out of the nursery, her fur ruffled and covered in bits of leaves, grasses, and flower petals. She shook her pelt out, only getting a portion of the plants off of her, and trotted toward the edge of the gathered group of cats.

She lapped nervously at her pelt, trying to pick the bits of leaves from her fur. She had accidentally fallen asleep last night while putting together more bundles to give to her clanmates. With any luck, everyone would be too focused on Smallbean's announcement to notice her messy appearance.

Nectarkit spotted her mother nearby and ducked her head bashfully, now keenly aware of her pelt. Oh well, nothing could be done about it now. Besides, the flowers and whatnot gave her character!

At least that's what she told herself.

Humming curiously, Nectarkit settled down, her gaze pinned onto Smallbean. She loved listening in on clan meetings! Especially when it came to ceremonies and fun announcements!

As his eyes adjusted, he was able to make the kit out at the edge of the crowd. Making eye contact with her (and avoiding the gaze of everyone else), he called out. "Nectarkit, you have now reached the age of six moons and are ready to become an apprentice. From now until you become a warrior, you will be known as Nectarpaw. Your mentor will be Sootstorm." The warrior only recently completed his training, but Smallbean was certain that he'd do just fine. When he abandoned the Tallrock to congratulate Nectarpaw, he kept his distance from the rest of the crowd.

Nectarkit relaxed on the far edge of the group, not paying much attention to the meeting. Her gaze was locked onto a particularly pretty flower just outside of the border of the camp. The kit narrowed her eyes playfully, somewhat amused as it swayed in the breeze, almost as if mocking her from its safe perch over the hollow.

Suddenly, she got the feeling that someone was watching her. Fur prickling uncomfortably, Nectarkit craned her neck to look around for the culprit. Finally, her gaze landed on Smallbean. Why was he - oh! Was this ceremony for her!?

Goodness, time really did fly by quickly, didn't it? She felt like it was just days ago that she tasted her first bite of rabbit. Confused, she searched for her mother, whose eyes were shining with pride.

Stars! This was really it! All of a sudden, Nectarkit was very conscious of her horribly messy pelt. She dipper her head in an attempt to clean it, but it made no difference, Smallbean was already calling her forward! After a moment, Nectarkit tried to ignore her growing embarrassment and padded to the center of the clearing, elated, yet nervous at the same time.

The ceremony was quick - thankfully - and the newly named apprentice tossed her head around, trying to spot her new mentor. She somewhat remembered him from his warrior ceremony, which had been done not too long ago, but she didn't know the tom personally.

Fernpaw wasn't far away from the ceremony when it started. The older apprentice was almost ready to become a warrior so it would be any day could be her ceremony. But today it wasn't her day: it was Nectakit! The white and grey she-cat remembered the kitten fondly from her gift, thus she was the happiest cat when Smallbean called her name. Gleefully, Fernpaw lifted her tail and mewed her new name: "Nectarpaw! Nectarpaw!" She rushed to the newly named apprentice and gave her a friendly bump with her head. "Now we can go and see the Flower Fields and make more of your bundles."
