Sagepaw knew Firefly, even if Firefly didn’t know Sagepaw. She knew Firefly was Mottlestar’s daughter, and definitely pretty good at fighting! So to her, it made sense to ask the young warrior for a spar. As she reached the training hollow, Sagepaw visibly relaxed as she felt her paws hit the sand. Sand was soothing to her. She’d spent her first few moons in the sand, after all!

“So, um, how do we start?” she mewed awkwardly, suddenly remembering the cat with her.

It seemed most of ThunderClan had unknowingly been helping Firefly release the aggression that slowly built up over time. There wasn't always a reason for it. Sometimes she was just... mad. Sparring was helping her a great deal and, in return, ThunderClan was growing stronger. It was a win win!

"I want you to hit me first, any move. Usually I'd go for a jumping strike, though I'll leave it to you. But I want you to try a belly rake at least once, okay?" Belly rake was a tough move that even Firefly, a cat who sparred constantly, couldn't seem to master. The russet warrior squared up, bracing herself for whatever the apprentice would do next. She wouldn't have to remind her not to use claws, right?

Sagepaw nodded, a bit worried. Okay. Jumping strike, try a belly rake. Got it. Bunching up her legs, she sprang at the warrior. Her claws extended reflexively but she tucked them back in before they could do any damage. However, that brief action cost the apprentice her focus. She slammed into Firefly headfirst and at an awkward angle. More of a headbutt than anything else.

Sagepaw used Headbutt, dealing 4 damage and costing 5 stamina.

Firefly would never openly laugh at ThunderClan apprentice trying their very best to learn how to defend not only themselves, but ThunderClan itself. But... The awkward jumping strike move that turned into a headbutt was hard to stifle a small chuckle over it. To Sagepaw's credit, that mistake did make it impossible to dodge and the russet warrior took minimal damage over it.

"Focus, Sagepaw! With an enemy, this blunder would cost you greatly. Take more time before striking; Your enemy will take advantage of your last second changes. Be confident! Be sure!" Normally, Firefly would be going all out, no matter the cat. But seeing how poorly this was going for the apprentice already... She would give this fight extra care so Sagepaw would even have a slight chance of improvement. "Come at me again!"

Sagepaw knew she’d screwed up. She knew she’d done the move wrong. It was now or never to show Firefly she could fight! She dove beneath the other cat, rolling over just in time to batter her paws against her in a mock raking motion.

Firefly was in disbelief. Not one single hit on Sagepaw, and yet the spar was over: the apprentice had thoroughly exhausted herself. And that was okay. "We'll done, Sagepaw. That was great form." There was no doubt in her mind now that Sagepaw was extremely weak when compared to the rest of ThunderClan. Normally, the warrior would find weakness outside of being elderly to be annoying. But Sagepaw had tried her hardest and proved that she was willing to try and keep up with the rest of the clan. "You'll need a lot more practice to be useful on the battle field, but I have high hopes for you yet."

She shook her pelt. She would probably feel that belly rake later. "You okay?"
