The Last Drop [Open Predator Hunt]

A predator hunt.. yeah okay she could lead this.. She could do this. It was just a predator.. Just a Fox. Something that had been lingering since they freed their companions from the twolegs. Well.. maybe. Maybe it just had moved in, taking up residence where the others once were. Either way it was a threat that needed to be gotten rid of.

Thornstalker turned back to her patrol, "We should be coming up on it here soon.. be ready." She told the others, the stintch of Fox growing stronger and stronger the closer they got to it's den. So when the pale she-cat pushed through the undergrowth and saw the orange creature she paused in her steps. She looked back and nodded back to her clanmates before launching herself at the Fox.

Graypaw was wary about the idea of a predator hunt. Her only fight so far had been against the foxes that had stormed Skyclan's camp, and the idea of purposely going to find one sent a shiver down her spine. It had to be done, of course, and she knew that, but the apprentice didn't feel like she was ready to be included in such a patrol. She felt too inexperienced, too awkward in her still-growing body. The last thing she wanted was to get hurt, or for someone to get hurt saving her from something she should know to avoid. Still, she was on this patrol and Thornstalker seemed to know what she was doing, as did Wolfblossom... Mostly. She wouldn't complain outwardly either, though there was a tension to the silvery apprentice's shoulders that betrayed her nerves and misgivings.

It didn't take long for the patrol to come upon the fox, and Thornstalker leaped at it. Graypaw followed her mentor, striking out with unsheathed claws. Graypaw had her doubts, but now that they were actually fighting, she wouldn't back down now that her clanmates were involved.

Graypaw used Front Paw Strike for -7 sp, dealing -6 damage.

Although initially unsure of attending a predator hunt, Astershine now felt secure within the group that had gathered, certain that they could take on whatever predator they happened to cross. So long as it wasn't a porcupine, he didn't mind. Thornstalker didn't seem to have porcupines on her mind anyways, for the longer they walked, the stronger the acrid stink of fox grew. It made the warrior scrunch his nose in disgust.

When Thornstalker came to a halt and cast a glance back at the patrol, Astershine was at first confused, but the flurry of movement that followed painted a clear picture. Jumping into action, he wordlessly darted around the fox, jumping onto and digging his claws into it's backside while it was distracted with Graypaw and Thornstalker in the front. Using all of his weight, he pushed the fox to the ground, holding it in place for as long as he could sinking his claws deeper into its flesh.


Astershine used Leap and Hold on Fox, dealing 8 HP per turn and costing 15 SP per turn. Fox is pinned for 1 turn!

storm couldnt belive this foxdung luck of his. Wolfblossom had somehow managed to call him over for a patrol just as he was about go get a drink. The only reason he had been out of his nest in the first place was because he was thirsty and needed some water from the river. Dang, shoulda just stayed laying low.... but she probaly woulda found him anyways.

He did TRY to keep a somewhat better attitute about it though, he only rolled his eyes once when he got assigned to this patrol.

He lumbered over wondering what border they were doing when someone mentioned a predator patrol?? Oh dark forest no! Who in their right mind hunted the stuff that hunted them? This was some crazy tradition started with blood and somehow it had lived just as long as the old bag of bones himself.

Storm sighed following along. Thornstalker was the lead of this thing and he followed behind letting her go first gladly, he wasnt about to want charge of this mess.

A fox appeared and the fight was on! He was a big guy so it made sense he was also the slowest to get a hit in on the fox.

BONK!

He smacked it right on the nose while one of his clanmates held it down.... who was that clanmate anyways???

Creamsky had wasted no time in offering to join in on the hunt - anything to help make sure that his Clan was safe. He wasn't one for fighting, a spar here and there was fine but he much preferred to spend his time hunting or paroling...But when there was a known threat on their territory, it wasn't the time for idle claws. He had made a vow when he gained his warrior name - if he was to fight, then he would with no hesitation. His eyes trailed after Thornstalker as she came to a stop, motioning for them all to halt as well.

Then, she darted forward and his Clanmates raced after him - the young Greypaw, his old mentor Astershine, and even Stormwatcher even if he was here against his own will. Then, it was Creamsky's turn to pounce. He darted forward, sticking close to Stormwatcher as the tom gave the fox a whack on the nose...And Creamsky pushed off of his front paws - rearing backwards before he brought down his entire weight on the fox's head with a soft growl - determined to keep it from snapping at anybody.

Creamsky used Upright Lock on the wild fox, dealing 10 damage and costing 10 stamina.

Her whole patrol was quick to jump in on the fox, everyone getting a swing in. It seemed they were quickly overwhelming the predator in front of them which was good. Maybe they could come out of this unharmed. At least she could only hope. She was quick to follow the rest in striking the fox while it was pinned. Just a little more and then it would be dead. The threat would be gone.

It seemed that Graypaw's unease had been misplaced as her clanmates quickly jumped in, doing significant damage to the fox and keeping it from doing much harm, but she would feel better when the fox was truly dealt with and not still thrashing about. That meant doing her part too, and with a new mentor she wanted to do better with, Graypaw slashed at the fox once more.

Astershine, despite his strength, was unable to keep the fox down for long. Before it got the chance to throw him, he leaped form it's back, dashing a safe distance away before letting his gaze return to the battle. In the brief moment it took for him to leap from the fox, his clanmates had already done a number on the beast, and it now looked as if it didn't have much life left in it. Charging back into the fray, he darted towards the fox's exposed throat and dug his teeth in, placing his paws on the beast's body as it began to lose its strength. Slowly, blood began to drop down his fur and pool at his paws.

Astershine didn't mind killing a fox, not really. He knew that if this fox were to run free, it would hurt some cat. Either that, or it's offspring would. The warrior let the fox's body fall to the ground as the last of it's life ebbed away. As much as he knew that this was the best, he couldn't help but feel a hint of sympathy for the beast. Only a bit, nothing more. If he allowed himself to feel sympathy for every creature that died at his paws, he wouldn't be able to get anything done.

Lifting his head from the body of the fox, he offered his clanmates around him a small smile. "Well done." The words lacked their intended cheerfulness, but the smile made up for the level tone. "What should we do with this thing?"

As soon as the beast fell, Thornstalker paused. Her blue eyes taking in everyone's forms, making sure everyone was okay and no one got hurt. She didn't notice any wounds or cuts on anyone's body, the only sign anyone showed was signs of exhaustion from the fight. She was thankful for it. "Let's bring it back to camp, I'm sure we could use it's fur for something. Maybe make the elder's den a little more comfortable."

"Astershine, Creamsky you two carry the fox back. Stormwatcher bring up the rear, make sure we have no surprises pop up." She didn't know if there were more foxes lingering, none she caught scent of, but she didn't want anything to happen.

"Let's go back." She said to the others before turning to lead the way back.

Graypaw was relieved when the fox finally dropped, red pelt falling still at last. She glanced around at her clanmates, and it seemed like they'd all escaped without any blood being spilled that wasn't meant to be spilled. That was good. Thornstalker's order to bring the fox back to camp seemed like a strange one before she mentioned possibly using the pelt for something, and Graypaw nodded. She could see the sense in that. The beast's pelt was more intact than she thought it would be, maybe if it was cleaned it wouldn't be so bad for some elder or queen's nesting material. The gray apprentice was quick to follow her clanmates as Thornstalker began to lead them back toward home.
