As he stared down at his beautiful reflection in the muddy pools of swamp water, Batswarm could only sigh. Usually being in the Deep Marshes was something he looked forward to in order to be by himself, although the melting snow and pools of ice were slowly making this an unwelcoming place to be. Today, however, he was joined by his clanmates. Tasked to lead a hunting patrol. Which wasn't the worst thing he could be asked to do, given the patrol Sablestrike went on to fight some foxes.


As he was sitting there, staring deeply into his own green eyes that lovingly stared back at him from the puddle, his ears picked up on a rustling of some sort. He didn't bother trying to identify it, pouncing head first into the brush. Popping out the other side with a rat dangling from his jaws, Batswarm puffed his chest out. A smart, beautiful, talented tom of few words, Batswarm figured everyone here knew what they were supposed to do without him having to further spell it out for them.

Moondancer padded along with the rest of the patrol, not at all thrilled to be around the deep marshes, but also not inclined to complain openly about it. The clan needed to be fed, after all, and at least her sibling was on the patrol with her. Moondancer paid him little mind for the moment as her ears twitched, catching the sound of prey nearby. Mouse, she thought,  and turned toward it, pawsteps light and careful as she navigated the treacherous stepping stones. Leaping, her paws caught only empty air and mud, and the warrior's ears flattened, a low hiss escaping her. The mouse had been too quick this time... She needed to do better.

Batswarm looked on as his patrol gave a mixed performance. He'd like to wrap this up, but he'd allow everyone one last chance to catch something if they wished. It would also allow them to gaze upon his beauty that rivaled even Silverpelt.

A plump, juicy rat scurried the edges of a very deep plot of marsh. No doubt this creature had come from Carrion Place. He crouched as low as he felt comfortable doing, the tips of his muted calico fur dipping into some mud. His muscles were not as strong as most of his clan from lack of training, but they still managed to propell him forward.

And into the deep, muddy waters. The splashing was frantic as he clawed his way back out, the fat rat dangling in his jaws. He scowled, dripping wet and one fluffy fur clinging to every inch of him. Furious, he dropped the rat down next to the prey he caught earlier. If they wanted it so badly, then they could bring it home!

He stomped off, each pawstep making a soft squish as he he did so.

Moondancer's eyes widened slightly at the frantic splashing, turning to see... Oh no. Batswarm. Had gone right into it, apparently. Had he missed that the mud was there? They were in the deep marshes after all, how could he make such a mistake? Her nose wrinkled as she stayed well clear of the splashing Shadowclanner, a look of disgust crossing her face. What could have possessed him to...

Oh, she realized as her littermate flung down a mouse and stomped away, looking none too happy. The mud would wash off eventually... And Moondancer was just grateful that it wasn't her pelt that had been caught in it. She glanced around at her patrolmates and let out a soft snort, then turned. She'd find her own prey and redeem that missed catch... And wouldn't get her sleek tabby pelt all muddy in the process. It took some searching, but she found another mouse and leapt for it, quickly biting the creature's neck and carefully making her way back to the patrol.
