Whisperear
Whisperear picked up two rabbits from the fresh kill pile and walked to the elder’s den. They spotted Brackenwing immediately and approached. “I’ve got some dinner,” they purred. They set down the rabbits and laid down in front of Brackenwing. They’d taken to eating their meals with Brackenwing daily so she would not get lonely. The elder’s den was not very populated and they knew that they were not Brackenwing’s favorite company anyway.
“The moors are growing warmer,” they commented as they started to eat. “Perhaps the den will not feel quite as freezing. I can even try and find some fresh grasses soon to add to your bedding.” They knew that they didn’t have to do all this for Brackenwing. They didn’t even visit Batsong or Flutterpetal this much from day to day. But they really enjoyed Brackenwing’s company, and didn’t want her to feel too left out.

"Hey, Whisperear," Brackenwinggreeted with a smile. She was always glad for their company, as the elder's den was... Not the best place for conversation, or even really populated. Brackenwing hadn't thought about how isolating being in the den would be, but... It was. Brackenwing missed going on patrols, she missed hunting with her clanmates. "Thanks," she was grateful for the rabbit Whisperear had brought, but she wished that she could go out and catch something too. She had mostly healed, at least outwardly, with little scarring to show for her ordeal. Her leg even looked normal. Except for the pain, and how it would just... stop cooperating. It was, Brackenwing thought, absolute foxdung.
Still, she was glad for the chances to spend time with Whisperear, even if that seemed to mostly be limited to spending time in camp now. "It'll be nice not to freeze our paws off. Leafbare is so dreary, too." She agreed. "I'd appreciate that." She admitted, "How've patrols been, uneventful?" An uneventful patrol was a good patrol, especially in times like these.

Whisperear nodded. “Uneventful, yes. I’ve heard rumor that Shrikestar is organizing a patrol to Fourtrees soon. Something to do with a prophecy, and potentially the other missing cats…” They wondered where some of their other missing clanmates had gone, like Smallbean. There had only been them at the farm, but more clan cats were missing when they returned, so the twolegs must have taken some cats to other locations. If StarClan was correct about them being at Fourtrees, then they hoped that Shrikestar’s patrol will bring them home.
Shifting the subject, they asked, “When it gets warmer and the snow melts, would you like me to bring anything back for you? Besides prey.” They smiled a little bit. “The flower fields will be blooming again soon.”

"Uneventful is good." Brackenwing offered Whisperear a half smile, listening as they spoke about a potential patrol to fourtrees. "Nothing good ever happens at fourtrees. If it's something to do with our missing clanmates, it might just be worth it, though." Brackenwing added. She wanted to be optimistic that they would be found safe, but her experiences at fourtrees had never been positive.
She was glad for the subject change. Flowers? She'd never given much thought to the flower fields, though they were a nice place to talk a walk in newleaf and greenleaf. "Oh, you don't have to, really. Your presence is enough, really." Brackenwing responded easily, hardly even thinking of her words at all.

Brackenwing’s response almost made Whisperear chuckle. They added, “Some décor might be nice. It will give you something more to look at.” Perhaps she didn’t like flowers…Whisperear had never given much thought about gifts to friends before, but they really want to make sure they can get something that Brackenwing likes. “Perhaps at the least, when your body heals enough to get back some strength, we can do a little walk around the territory? I’m sure getting out and about would do some good.” There was no doubt that Brackenwing would grow stir-crazy the longer she’s forced to stay here in camp. At least at the twoleg farm they had space to move around.

"True," Brackenwing's whiskers twitched, "It does get boring in here. Some flowers might liven the den up a little." She admitted. Sleeping in a closed-off den was a bit jarring, coming from her nest under the stars, but it wasn't something Brackenwing was completely unfamiliar with thanks to previous stints in the medicine den. She missed the easy familiarity of the warriors she knew, though. The elder's den was stuffy and uncomfortable, and not just because it was a proper den.
"Please, I'd love that." She mewed. The idea of getting out of camp for even a little while sounded wonderful. And with Whisperear she'd be in good company, too. "I'm sure I'll be better by the time the weather is finally nicer. No need to drag each other out into the snow, right?" She wasn't sure of that at all actually, but she was sure the weather would turn tolerable at some point, and that would have to be enough. Whisperear was offering her a chance to not be stuck in here and to spend time with them, how could she refuse them?

Whisperear chuckled and nodded. “Spending time in the snow does not sound appealing, I have to agree." They felt even more tired when it was cold. Perhaps that was why they have been feeling so fatigued lately. A nice walk through the territory in newleaf sounded like the best cure. They knew Brackenwing would kill for the chance to do that too. “We’ll have to do that then.” They hesitated a moment, wondering if they even needed to put more of a hint regarding their feelings on display, but ultimately they added, “It’s a date.”

"It'll do you some good, too." Brackenwing mewed. Neither of them had long fur, but she had noticed Whisperear seemed to have a harder time in the cold. She had noticed the warrior's fatigue and the way Whisperear shivered in the, had noticed it for a while, though was often too hesitant to say anything. It wasn't her business... Except that Whisperear's well-being concerned her. Whisperear was... Whisperear. Steadfast, loyal, her best friend.
...Yeah, best friend. That was it, she told herself. Brackenwing took another bite of rabbit.
She couldn't help but smile at Whisperear's words. A date... Her fur felt warm despite the chill in the air at the thought, a tension that she had not realized was there at her own thoughts falling away. "I'm looking forward to that." She mewed.
