Stonepaw followed the small hunting patrol out into Skyclan's territory, shivering slightly as a gust of wind ruffled her long pelt. It made her want to curl up in the apprentice's den, but the wind alone wasn't an excuse, she knew. And for once, there didn't seem to be much snow on the ground. Not that that would last, she knew, but getting the day's hunting done now would be better than waiting. One of her fellow apprentices was on the patrol with her, Juniperpaw if she recalled correctly. For the moment there was silence between them, and the dark gray and silvery 'paw was content to stay quiet as they walked, green eyes more focused on her surroundings - both fear of twoleg traps and hoping to spot prey before it could spot her and flee.

Juniperpaw couldn’t understand how Stonepaw could just stand there, silent like a ghost as she walked along with their patrol. The silence was deafening to her, and while she understood the apprehension hanging in the harsh winter breeze (twoleg scented winter breeze), she just couldn’t take it any longer; she had to speak! She had to talk, make a joke, say something before she went absolutely insane. Stonepaw was so stoic, just like a warrior— Juniperpaw was just a tad envious.
Just a tad. Juniperpaw didn’t believe in envy, she insisted it made you a weaker warrior.
”Hi Stonepaw!” Juniperpaw greeted under her breath, slowing her long, elegant legs to match Stonepaw’s stride. ”It’s nice to see you again! Are you excited for this hunting patrol? This is really my first time properly outside of camp!” Stonepaw had a wildly different apprenticeship experience than Juniperpaw had, she knew very well— while she wasn’t there herself, plenty of her clanmates had told her about their haphazard campsite in Fourtrees, and the awkward way of life they had developed for a while. While Juniperpaw was grateful she didn’t have to deal with that, she hoped Stonepaw didn’t hold any grudges because of it— the grey molly was hard to read, and Juniperpaw found herself worrying she didn’t like her all that much.
She hoped Stonepaw didn’t find her soft. She wasn’t soft!

Juniperpaw, it seemed, had other ideas than simply enjoying the quiet. She wanted to talk, and Stonepaw, while she mourned the loss of the quiet, was... Okay with that, too. She glanced at the younger apprentice as she spoke, noting that she seemed to rival Wolfblossom in cheery nature. "It's nice to get out of camp, I suppose." Stonepaw responded, though she was still carefully watching their surroundings. She had not forgotten her first time out and about near fourtrees, with Stormwatcher and Mistpaw and Dawnfeather, and it had made her wary even knowing that this territory was now Skyclan's again. "I don't know the territory all that well, honestly. It might as well be closer to my first day out of camp than not." Even though Stonepaw knew how to hunt and fight, the territory that Skyclan had reclaimed was different than the area around fourtrees where she had trained for the majority of her apprenticeship. Juniper was a newer apprentice who hadn't been with the clan then, and Stonepaw wondered how different her own training might have progressed if it were under these trees rather than the four great oaks.

Juniperpaw hummed in understanding,turning her furry head from Stonepaw to the surrounding woods. She had been so wrapped up in making conversation she nearly forgot she was in the middle of a hunting patrol— this seemed to happen all the time! Juniperpaw was constantly battling between being her excited, bubbly and friendly self and putting her apprentice duties first. No wonder Stonepaw was trying to make short conversation out of her, Juniperpaw just won’t shut up!
It hit her, then, just how out of depth she was in this patrol. While Creamsky seemed nice, he wasn’t around much at all; it was a little disheartening, really, how Juniperpaw had to learn the ropes all alone. Wolfblossom and Birdstar helped where they could, of course, getting her into as many patrols and tasks as Juniperpaw agreed to. But she still felt alone and mentorless, walking along in a hunting patrol without any actual hunting training. ”Who’s your mentor, Stonepaw?” Juniperpaw found herself asking aloud. She didn’t look away from the snow-covered underbrush, blue eyes focused on any movement, but her shoulders slumped back down, letting the grey molly beside her back in. ”Are they good? Have they taught you anything?”

"My mentor is Stormwatcher. He's..." Stonepaw searched for what she wanted to say. "It was... Awkward, at first. But he's taught me everything I know." Stormwatcher wasn't the most liked in the clan, that much had been clear to Stonepaw, but Wolfblossom, she had come to realize, was very deliberate with her choices. She'd always thought of the tom as lazy and selfish, and maybe that was even true, but he'd always taken care with her training. "You're with... Creamsky, right? How has that been?" She didn't quite pick up on Juniperpaw's reason for asking, of course. She and Creamsky had been denmates not that long ago, but Stonepaw didn't know him well at all.

Juniperpaw gives Stonepaw a sigh and a look, blue eyes squinted as if she was in pain. ”He’s… I’m sure he’s fine, but I wouldn’t know. He hasn’t taken me out for training or anything.” She could continue, spill out her heart right here, but Juniperpaw held her tongue. Her and Stonepaw ran around in the same circles, we’re certainly more than acquaintances, but she wasn’t sure if they were exactly friends, either. Stonepaw was like, well… stone, sometimes. Juniperpaw could only ever be so bubbly. And besides, this was a patrol they were on, not a sharing-tongues circle to chat and play catch up! They had a job to do, even if it was out of Juniperpaw’s league. ”Thank you for listening, Stonepaw!” Juniperpaw added after some silence, not wanting to sound ungrateful. ”You’ll be a great warrior one day, I know it! I can’t wait until we’re warriors together!”
