Sprucebark was tossed and thrown all over the place from the aggressive current. There was simply no fighing it. He watched in terror as camp disappeared from view. He was pushed under the waters surface again the air knocked out of him as he ended up getting alot of water again. Clawing his way back up he reached the surface again coughing violently while also trying to suck in as much air as he could but with it he inhaled more water. He was a great swimmer but this water was too much and too violent for anything to get through it felt like. It was all he could do just to keep his nose above surface level.
Between the constant battle and struggle for air and the cold chilling tempature of the water he was quickly losing what energy he had left. This was a losing battle and he knew it, if he didnt get out of this soon he was a goner. His friends and family and clan flashed through his mind... Poppy, would he ever see mum again?
He forced himself to snap out of it, if he wanted any shot of getting to see them all again all focus would have to be on getting to land.
(I often like to let a bit of randomness determine things and bring a bit of uncontrolled things into posts. I am going to roll 1 hunting dice (1-10) to see what happens to Spruce. The higher the roll the better off he will be.)
1) He drowns right here right now. I am so sorry to anyone I promised he would be around for a long time if this happens. I will be so upset if this happens but I feel that putting him in dangerous situations has to come with substantial risk. Luckily, this is only a 10% chance of happening so Im hoping so much this doesnt happen.
2-5) He manages to catch a log and hang on for dear life. He cant get to shore right now so he is sent way far out beyond the territories completely lost before it calms down enough for him to make it to land. Exhausted, cold and utterly lost he is gonna have a very hard time getting home again. He has no idea where he is in this scenario so the time to get back will be much longer than the 6-10 but at least he is alive.. (Estimated time of return in this case: 1 month! )
6-10) He makes it to shore but is very far out from camp or anywhere else. He knows where he is but it would be very difficult and take him a long time to get back especially how weak he is and with the mess the entire forest is in. He is not lost in this scenario. (estimated time for his return in this case: 2 weeks)
Alright, lets do this thing...
Rolling the most important dice roll Spruce has ever seen in his life.
Spotting a log nearby he used every bit of strength he had left to swim towards it. He tried to climb on but it slipped away! It was slippery. No please!!!
He was so exhausted, his entire body yelling at him for rest and relive. He went for it again knowing there might not be a 3rd chance. Clawing into the soaking bark of the log he scampered on top of it and lay there exhausted. He couldn't do anything but watch the land pass by him as he was sent shooting down the river. He was alright though... he had made it through the worst of it.
He had never been this far south down the river before. He did not recognize any of the land that was whipping by on the shore of the river.
He lay there too tired to be able to do anything else. The river over time got less and less aggressive and slowed down slowly over more and more time. Eventually, it slowed to a point that the log he was on was barely moving along. It was late afternoon, as he glanced around he recognized nothing at all. He had never been here, not even heard stories of this place. Up ahead, there was a sandy bend in the river and dipping his tired paw in he paddled the log to colide with it when it reached it and scrapped to a hault in this unfamilar land. He shivered freezing cold, it took everything he had to hoist himself up off the log and over onto the sandy shore bank. He collapsed almost immedietly laying there exhausted.
He knew with nightfall coming it would get even colder than he already was... if he didnt find shelter or some form of warmth he might not see the morning. But the urge to just fall asleep right here was very strong. Usuing all his willpower he forced himself up again to search around for some form of den. His legs felt like jello as he limped along. Going up the bank away from the river he looked around the forest around him. There was not much in the way of safe shelters upon first glance. His soaking pelt clung to his body as he continued to shiver. His teeth chattered as he stumbled slowly forward. Out of the corner of his eye he saw a little structure looking den. He froze looking round... seeing nothing he cautiosly approached. Sniffing the den structure the scent of stale fox was there... this must be an old foxes den... the scent was very very old so they had not been here in a long while... was it a risk using this? yes, but if he didnt he would die of exposure and exhaustion. Having no other choice he went into the den... Holding his breath he was relived to indeed find it was not occupied ... hopefully it would stay that way till morning. He curled up into a little soaking ball and within seconds was asleep. The wind howled outside but in this little hideaway he was sheltered from it and would live to see at least one more day.

Woolywing's sleep was light and feverish. Though Blossompaw was out of the nursery and he had more time to himself now that she was being watched over by someone more capable, he found he couldn't sleep. He was either worried about her, worried about the looming threat of being made an elder, or worried about Yarrowblossom, missing for weeks now. He didn't fancy himself an anxious cat, he tried his best to just get on with things. After all, there was no sense in worrying. Worrying brought home no prey. Still, he couldn't quite bring himself to sleep for more than 20 minutes at a time.
It was during one of these 20 minute naps that he was jolted awake, heart rate immediately skyrocketing. "Blossompaw?" was his first thought. He was used to getting woken up by her, so it wouldn't come as a surprise- but then the shaking kept going. He couldn't smell Blossompaw, though that was no guarantee of anything in his grogginess. What was happening? He tried to take a step but was knocked off balance by the relentless shuddering. His whiskers were of no use among the barrage of vibrations sending him mixed signals left and right. He couldn't hear over the growling of the earth beneath him. All he had was his smell and touch, he realised with panic. He crawled, too off-balance to walk, to the wall of the warriors' den. His lungs and heart worked overtime, pumping useless adrenaline to his muscles. All it did was make him more afraid, his movements more unsure and jittery. He tried to press himself against the wall of the den, but the pelt on his back stopped him. The wings had been so useful as a bumper that they were actively hindering him now. With a resolution to come back for it, he grabbed the pelt off his back and tossed it aside.
He made slow progress to the mouth of the den, dirtying his left side from dragging it along the wall. Water was trickling in now. He tried to bite back his fear, but his trembling almost matched that of the earth. Finally, he reached the den's exit.
He didn't know what he'd expected, but it was far worse outside than inside. A cacophony of voices and rushing water added to the rumble of the earth, rendering his hearing even less useful than before. Water lapped at his paws. It was shallow, and far too slow to be considered a threat, but amidst the sensory overload it was enough to make Woolywing's breath catch. The ground beneath his paws was soft and mushy, threatening to swallow him up with the next step he took. His Clanmates were audibly rushing about camp, helping their friends and family... And he could do nothing but hyperventilate at the mouth of his den. He opened his mouth to call out for help, but no words came out. Who would stop to help him anyway? They all had their own loved ones to take care of. Stormdance had his apprentices, Poppyshine had her children, and Perchstar had the entire Clan. The only cat he was first priority to was out in the middle of StarClan-knows-where, probably dead or injured from the quake. The only living family he had was-
Blossompaw! Was Blossompaw okay? He stood up tall, pushing down his fears. He was a grown cat, he thought angrily with a self-scorning hiss. He was meant to take care of others, not the other way around. "BLOSSOMPAW!" He shouted into the chaos. 'StarClan, if you can grant me one wish, please let her be safe.' He prayed silently, standing helplessly in waiting for his daughter's confirmation.

Stormdance
Riverclan Camp
Stormdance was so focused on the task of hand of getting Cloverpaw moving, he almost didn't see Rowanpaw until Rowanpaw crashed right into him. Stormdance froze for a moment, heart skipping a beat at the sight of his apprentice... no, the sight of the one he'd come to consider family, his little brother, so devastated. The relief that he felt the moment he caught sight of Rowanpaw's fox-like streak of red fur was drowned out immediately in the wake of his concern. He had seen Rowanpaw distressed a few times now, seen him terrified in the wake of the fox that had pinned them between it's paws, seen him horrified at the sight of Poppyshine collapsing in camp, but never had he witnessed such desperate, broken fear and horror wrack his brother's form. It shook him to his core, made his stomach twist with fear. He didn't know what Rowanpaw had seen, but he knew that something, beyond the way the world is falling out from beneath their paws, something had happened.
On pure instinct, Stormdance pressed his nose to the top of Rowanpaw's head, tail coming to wrap around Rowanpaw's side and pull him in closer, a protective hold. "Breathe, breathe, Rowan, I've got you," He whispered before anything else. His head snapped up at Hawkshriek's cry for Sprucebark, eyes searching for the danger immediately. He didn't even have time to be relieved at the sound of it when he heard Brookstone's voice seconds later, because she was screaming in terror, and Stormdance's chest tightened until he felt like he couldn't breathe as he finally caught sight of what she saw. He froze, unable to even muster up a cry in his throat.
The water had swelled past the walls of the camp, a flood that washed away everything in it's past, along with at least two of his clanmates that Stormdance could see. Somewhere in his mind Stormdance could recognize that Hawkshriek must've seen Sprucebark's predicament, must've gone in after him only to be washed away himself. Suddenly Stormdance understood what Rowanpaw must've seen. Stormdance wanted to go after them, wanted to help, but he knew that if he tried he would only end up swept away himself. Both Hawkshriek and Sprucebark were strong swimmers, stronger than Stormdance was, and he had to believe that they could survive this. Besides, he couldn't bear to pull himself from Rowanpaw's side, to leave his Rowanpaw without yet another brother. 'Please, please, Starclan watch over them, keep them alive!
Blue eyes met blue as Brookstone caught his gaze, and Stormdance ripped his eyes away from the rapidly disappearing figures of his clanmates. The sight of her made him breathe again, even just a little. He had to focus. He couldn't help them, he couldn't do anything except help the clanmates he still could and get them out of there. He had to protect Rowanpaw, had to watch over the cats that he still had. Gathering what remained of his fractured strength and steeling his gaze, Stormdance pushed that panic down yet again and returned Brookstone's jerky nod.
Brookstone approached them, pulled Rowanpaw into her chest in a hug, and whispered to him. Stormdance felt a surge of gratitude for her, as well as a tight, sympathetic feeling of pain. She loved Sprucebark like a brother, he knew that. He couldn't imagine the turmoil she was feeling. He leaned over, pressing Rowanpaw a little between them as he briefly joined the hug, licking her shoulder and pressing his head briefly against it, in the paltry, brief form of comfort they could afford right then. He pulled back when she did, meeting her eyes. His own were glazed over, tears that wouldn't fall rimming the edges, and he ached to see the pain reflected in hers. She dipped her head for a moment, and he knew what she meant. His tail tightened over Rowanpaw, but he leaned in and pressed his nose briefly to Brookstone's head before she pulled away completely. A silent plea. 'Stay safe. Please.'
Then he watched Brookstone go. He couldn't protect her, and he knew that she would be able to help more of their clanmates. He made a mental note to keep an eye out for Serpentpaw for her as well, but his first priority had to be getting Rowanpaw, shellshocked as his brother was, and anyone else he could help out. Stormdance took a shaky breath in, and he pressed against Rowanpaw's side once more and licked the top of his head. "Rowanpaw," He said. "I need you to try and calm down. I know. and I'm sorry. But we've got to get out of here. Just stay with me. That's all you have to focus on, is just staying right by my side, okay? I've got you. I'm not going anywhere, little fox."
Then he turned and gave one more nudge to Cloverpaw, hoping that all this has been enough to get her moving. "Go." He told her urgently, before beginning to guide Rowanpaw out and towards the rest of the evacuating camp. He looked around, scanning the rest of his clanmates without pulling away from Rowanpaw. Stormdance turned his head towards Woolywing's cry, swiftly looking his friend over for signs of injury.
When he noted with relief that Woolywing was uninjured, he scanned the crowd for signs of Blossompaw as well. He knew that Woolywing wouldn't go anywhere without his daughter. "Woolywing!" He called over. They weren't far, so Stormdance diverted his and Rowanpaw's course somewhat to move closer to the warrior's den where Woolywing stood outside. "This way," He said, nudging Woolywing lightly to let Woolywing know where he was. "I'll help look for her!" He had to hope Woolywing would listen and start moving. He was terrified of any of his clanmates getting left behind in this mess, especially knowing that at least two of their warriors had already been swept away, and he doubted that orienting himself right now would be easy for Woolywing when everything was so unstable.

Hawkshriek
(OOC: Hawkshriek had washed up at the same place as Sprucebark did.)
The sound of crashing water eventually died down, leaving the flow to return to a gentle hum. Sand intertwined and mixed within his fur, Hawkshriek coughed, his whole body feeling exhausted and cold. Squinting, the tom forced his eyes to open. The landscape wasn't home. In fact, it had no resemblance to RiverClan's camp, whatsoever. His chest heaving, he rose slowly to a crouch, his fur soaked wet from the unmerciful rapids. The memory flashed back into his mind. Sprucebark! He wanted to call out, spotting his brother not too far distanced from himself. His paws inched closer, and though his body desperately called for rest, Hawkshriek pushed himself up.
"S-Sprucebark! I'm... here!" He called out. Soon enough, the afternoon had faded to night. Inside the abandoned den, presumably an old vixen's den, was his brother, resting inside. Relief caused his whiskers to droop down, and slowly, he went inside the same den. Curling against his brother, the two would rely on each other for what little warmth they had. Until morning, when everything had settled down a bit more, they would begin to investigate. But for now, they both needed rest.

Hickorypaw hadn't moved much from his nest. Only ever leaving his den to eat, but was constantly refusing offers to train or patrol. Even when he did go out, he only put about half the effort he would've normally. It was quite clear that the brown ghost tabby had become a shell of his former self. Now he was much bigger than the other apprentices in the apprentice den. He had grown into an adult, but with a lack of training, and effort put into that training, he probably wasn't going to become a warrior very soon.
He watched apprentices leave and enter the den, his paws still tucked underneath his body. He had not moved all day. Then, as he was about to doze off anyway, the ground shook beneath him. Hickorypaw lifted his head, ears pricked, and it seemed as if the entire world went quiet, for just a moment, all except the birds.
Then, the camp filled with water. Dirty, mucky, water. He stood up, pinning his ears back as the water slowly lifted up, just above his paws. He waded out of the den, but he didn't seemed panicked. Maybe annoyed, at best. Hickorypaw's paws started sinking into the mud, any thought in his brain was reduced to incomprehensible noise. Anything that was yelled out by his clanmates, he couldn't hear, or wouldn't.
He could see cats moving, looking for the others, presumably. Yet he stood in place, watching as the ground grabbed at his pads, pulling them into their muddy grasp.
Hickorypaw! Hickorypaw!
Something from inside of him grabbed his attention, noise flooded into his ears. I need to get out of here. He decided. He kicked up mud and water as he tried to focus. His paws slipped, but he kept moving. Out of camp. Anywhere but here. He needed to find quiet again. Why had noise decided to consume him? Why were his thoughts so loud?
He burst out of camp, water sloshing around his large paws, the ground shook with him. He was moving, moving out away from camp, and it felt like the further he went, the more the ground wanted to consume him. He kicked, trying to clear a path for himself. Then his thoughts screamed to him, louder than they had ever been before. MY FAMILY!
He stopped. Where are they? He wondered. Back at camp? He turned. I need to get back to camp! He pushed himself forwards, but froze at the sound of... creaking? The woosh of branches, and more creaking...
The tree. The ground felt as if it was shaking more than ever and he had to stay put or he'd fall into the murky water. He was trapped.
Call for help. Came his only thought in that moment. Quieter than the others, but demanding.
Hickorypaw's only option was to scream.
Yowling as loud as his lungs could help him, he watched helplessly as the tree started falling. Like the world around him had slowed, he watched the tree fall.
He reached out his paw, dragging most of his body out of the way of the tree. He tried to pull himself even further away, but the ground help him there, just in time for...
SNAP
The tree snapped itself away from the ground that held it. The tree fell forward, onto him. Pain shot up through his back, but he couldn't feel his legs or his tail. He yowled again, quieter than he did before, but filled with pain.
He could only just keep his head out of the water, he turned back to see brown mixed with red.

Kitespring had been standing in the middle of camp when the ground began to move. Her first thought was that she was dreaming. The ground never moved like this in normal day-to-day life, after all. But when the birds began flying away from the shaking trees, when the water stained by mud and dirt began flooding the ground she stood on, when her clanmates began rushing to leave the rapidly-flooding camp... it sure didn't feel like a dream. Perchstar's call rung in her brain... the announcement was muffled from the rushing water and her internal monologue, but the russet she-cat could recall at least one word.
Fourtrees.
She needed to get out of camp, swim to Fourtrees, and she could look for her clanmates. Her sister would probably be alive, right? She was RiverClan's medicine cat, and she was nowhere to be seen... She had to have made it out. She had to.
(Rolling for Kite's fate with a hunting die... 1-5 means she's swept away, 6-10 means she can swim against the harsh current and reach Fourtrees. also, i almost posted before rolling the dice but the new post alert saved me).
As the water began pushing harder and harder, the russet she-cat started pushing back at it. Fourtrees... Fourtrees... Fourtrees... The water flooding the camp felt even more powerful than swimming against the river when she was younger, and despite the russet she-cat feeling that she was a good swimmer, it felt like she had no chance to climb past it. Fourtrees... Fourtrees...
She needed to try.
Using all of her strength, Kitespring was able to make miniscule progress against the raging tides. To her dismay, her miniscule gains were eradicated in a couple heartbeats, and she began to slowly be carried by the current. Fourtrees... her mind gasped, but there wasn't anything she could do. There was no way she could make it past the current. As it began to sweep her away, the russet she-cat's priority shifted from 'get to Fourtrees' to 'survive'.
Kitespring didn't realize how quickly the current would take her out of camp. As numerous pieces of debris began piling up, the russet she-cat desperately tried to keep her head up and hopefully get out of the raging water. As the water began to slow down, the russet she-cat used this opportunity to swim to the shore (despite it definitely not being RiverClan's, she had an excuse ready if they asked.)
Kitespring is on SkyClan's border at the River.

Twistpool
Twistpool rolled his eyes as he saw the panic ensuing with his clanmates around him. With how much they were yelling and locking up, you would think that this was the flood that hit ShadowClan a few moons ago. All of this panicked scrambling and only what, three? Four cats had left camp? He has an excuse with his arthritic joints, but what about the rest of his clan?
In a loud, yowling voice, he shouted to his clan, “Are you all RiverClan cats or blasted ThunderClan cats? Water up to your paws should be an easy greenleaf day for you! Now listen to your leader and get out of camp before you all work yourselves up into even more of a frenzy!”
He shared only a sparse glance with Stormdance as he gripped Cloverpaw by the back of her scruff to begin physically dragging her along with him through the shallow water and towards the exit of camp. Through muffled teeth, he grumbled, “Come now, kit. I know you still know how to use your paws. It isn’t the end of the world.”
Poppyshine
Poppyshine’s calls to her children were cut off by Perchstar’s harsh words in her ear. Poppyshine’s ears flattened, unused to such a tone from her best friend. She looked at Perchstar with wide, glassy eyes as the rest of her words tumbled from her maw. The thought of the water rising any higher than the couple of inches terrified Poppyshine, and she knew that if the situation did get any worse, it would result in even more damage to the camp’s structures. But…But…
She heard Twistpool’s yowl. Are you RiverClan cats or blasted ThunderClan cats? It made her whiskers twitch. She looked towards him and saw Rowanpaw pressed up against Stormdance…Right. Her children had more than just her. She did not have to protect all of them. They had their clanmates, who would look out for them just as Perchstar was looking out for her. The thought of Sleepycloud and Rainpaw, both already passed, made her paws tremble. But her children were not them. She had to have hope and the belief that Perchstar and the rest of her clan would look out for them. Was that not why she loved and trusted RiverClan with all of her heart in the first place?
Poppyshine took a shaky breath and stood a little taller. She didn’t weigh quite so heavily on Rushingpaw or Perchstar. In a voice that was admittedly more trembling than she hoped, she meowed, “Alright. I’ll go.” She took a deep breath and then began to move, step by step, heading towards the exit of camp. She could get to fourtrees. She didn’t have to burden Perchstar more than she already was right now.

Cloverpaw
Everything was too much. Cloverpaw didn't have a moment to stand still, to think, to process anything - the world was whirling around faster than her mind could handle it, cats were yowling and it didn't help, she wanted to sink down to the ground and press her paws over her ears and block all of the noise out --
-- but the ground wasn't there anymore. Not solidly, anyway; it was all dirt and sludge and murk. She lifted a paw, surprised with the effort that it took, to find it not white anymore. It was an ugly brown. Somehow, that rattled her the most out of it all.
Someone was talking to her, trying to get her to move. She should move. Perchstar said to move, and Perchstar was the leader. Cloverpaw was an apprentice. Apprentices followed orders their leaders gave them. Yet she wasn't following this one, because her paws were stuck in the mixture of silt and rainwater. Maybe she could move them if she really tried. She wasn't sure.
The she-cat's blurred world was swiftly snapped into sharp focus from a hasty tug at her scruff. She needed to do something about that. But it was somehow easier to let herself be dragged until words started to make sense again and she realized what was going on. Cloverpaw jerked back into reality and ducked out of Twistpool's grasp. "I'm fine," she gasped,
(she was not fine) (her chest was heaving when it shouldn't have been) (every breath took too much effort)
pulling herself forwards on shaky legs. I know where Fourtrees is. I can get there. The unsteadiness didn't stop, as if she was a newborn kit taking their first steps. Nor did the rattling of her heart against her ribcage, in tune with the slipping of her paws in mud and the trembling of her knees and ragged breaths. But she continued to move, following the rest of the Clan, and that was what counted.
Cloverpaw is finally!!!! heading to Fourtrees. yippee!!

Perchstar felt awful for the words she was saying. She felt awful about her inadequate response, about how poorly she had trained her Clanmates, who were floundering around in the shallow water and panicking about the rumbling of the earth. She felt awful about the urge she had to run up and smack those who were standing around instead of fleeing. However, she took in a deep breath, then let it out. She could do this. She had to do this. She had no choice. Thankfully, her unkind words finally got through to Poppyshine, who began to stumble forward through the dampened sand toward the exit of camp. A trembling sigh of relief went unheard beneath the cacophony of camp. "Thank you, Poppyshine. Rushingpaw, please stay with her and make sure she arrives safely. I'll be right behind you."
The most important charge now taken care of, Perchstar swept her vision across camp, finally allowing herself to truly see her surroundings. The ground was almost completely sludge, threatening to swallow up the paws of those who were not strong enough to walk. Twistpool thankfully seemed to be all right, being helpful for once in his life as he yowled for the other cats to listen and leave. The forms of some Clanmates were on the horizon, for some reason, pelt colors indistinct against the varicolored leaf-fall scenery. So when she'd seen Sprucebark out of the corner of her eye, she had not been imagining things. Had the soft pull of the tide truly caught them so unaware? Well, surely they could make their way back. They had all heard her call to assemble at Fourtrees. Or maybe, she was just trying to convince herself of that, so that she did not have to run frantically after them as her paws urged her to. She forced herself to look around again at the chaotic surroundings. A few more cats were finally leaving camp. Grebedance and Dovesight were transporting the unconscious Harebounce, assisted by Brookstone. They would not need her assistance as well. Who did? Stormdance had Woolywing on one shoulder and Rowanpaw on the other, neither cat quite capable of carrying themselves. She narrowed her eyes and made her way over to them, striding purposefully through the layer of water and muck and sand.
"Up, Rowanpaw," she began, nosing the apprentice who was completely buried in his mentor's fur. Again, she felt a sense of hatred for herself, knowing that these cats needed time and space to recuperate. But if they took time and space in a camp slowly falling apart at the seams with dirty waterlogged sand, that would be far from safe. She needed to account for her Clanmates. All of them. "Poppyshine is on her way to Fourtrees, with Rushingpaw. I need you to make sure she gets there safely. Can you do that?" Maybe giving the tom a responsibility would force him onto his paws for a moment. Then, she lifted her gaze and nodded at Stormdance, gratitude obvious in the dip of her head. "There are still others that may need help. Can I ask you to make sure all the dens have been evacuated? Check for Sandypaw and Hickorypaw especially. I will be with you again to search in a moment. I will assist Woolywing first."
Perchstar looked at the blind white tom, watching with a mixture of self-hatred, pity, fear and frustration as he floundered around in the shallow waters. Where was Blossompaw in all this? If the little she-cat had left camp without permission again, today of all days.... She walked over to the tom, bumping his shoulder with hers to let him know she was here. "Come with me, Woolywing. We're going to look for Blossompaw," she commanded. "Either she is in camp, or she can't have gone far. Just follow me, all right?" Her tail lay across the tom's shoulders as she moved forward, trying her best to guide him through the home she loved so dearly that was gradually falling apart. Despite the facade she put on, fear threatened to break across her features. So many Clanmates unaccounted for. So much damage done to their camp. Stars... What have I done wrong? Is this my fault? How will we get through this?

Serpentpaw didn't know what to do. He was scared. All he knew he was sitting by the bank, looking for pretty stones to give to his new mentor before he noticed weird trickles. Backing up, he was scared it was a snake or something for a second before they grew. Crying out, he backed up awkwardly as the rumbles started. The ground shook below him and water started to rise, causing panic all around him. Every cat was calling out for every other cat, except him. The quiet, orphaned tom had been all but forgotten about as family and friendship ties took presendence in the time of crisis. Unsure what to do, the long tom snaked his way up the bank in the crook of a den- he was above water level for now but what if it rose? He constantly scanned the camp, eyes wide and scared. Finally, Brookstone came running back but his heart dropped as she too seemed pre-occupied with every other cat aside him. But then! She called for him! Searched for him! Immediately he started untucking himself from his hidden position, pulling out chunks of golden fur as he did so. Finally, only a little scraped up he managed to escape and immediately joined his mentor's side. "Brookstone! I thought everyone forgot about me!" He cried, shoving his head into the older warrior's flank.
"When there's nothing left to burn, you have to set yourself on fire."

Sootspirit had been heading back to camp when the earthquake struck, fish and vole hanging from his maw dropped the instant the rumbling got to bad. The tom wanted to press low to the ground, to stabilize himself more, but then mud and water seemed to rise from the ground. A small cry left the dark tom as he stumbled backwards, slipping on the now wetter than normal ground. Splashing in the mud, the tom tried to scramble to his feet once again, but it was proving difficult until the world stopped moving. Amber eyes glanced around, making sure there was nothing dangerous nearby before he closed the short distance to camp, but it seemed that cats were already ahead of him in getting out. Calls of going to the fourtrees reaching his ears. The food he had caught just moments before completely forgotten.

Sandypaw
Doomsday
The end was nigh.
It shook. It shook and it shook and it shook like she couldn’t ever imagine. Except, she could imagine it, because she had seen it in her dream. That prophecy. She thought there would be more time! But there was no time, there was only now. As the ground beneath her began to tremble and roar Sandypaw couldn’t stop herself from breathing like the rapids of a river. She could only stare at the traitorous earth while her heart chugged. When she was terrified of the sky, she could always find comfort in steady footing. But now even that was gone. Nothing was safe.
Water lapped around her. The only part of terrain left that hadn’t betrayed her yet, the river. Her one and true sanctuary. She had to find it. But she lay still instead, entranced by her panic and adrenaline. It was doomsday after all.
She shut her eyes tight and lay her head in her paws. She just tried not to think. Not to think about her prophecies. Her warnings. Not to think about those she’s let down once again. There must have been something she was supposed to do, some way she was to save everyone before tragedy struck. Maybe if she had helped Dovesight more, maybe if she hadn’t been selfish with her own anxiety.
I keep screwing up... I’m a failing part of this clan and I always have been.
Even though the thank yous of every cat she treated echoed in her ear, it was too quiet against the yowls of her clanmates. Screams of names, hers scattered in the bunch. She couldn’t see it, but she knew something happened to Sprucebark. She knew the rest of her loved ones would soon be lost too. Worst of all, it was her fault.
The little medicine cat had been tucked in an unremarkable corner of the camp. A quiet nest where she could be alone and have time to think. Now all she could think about was the end, accompanied by her quiet sobbing and hyperventilation. She knew everything would be gone. According to her prophecy at least. Though her heart begged her to stand up and go save someone, she was too stuck in her thoughts of doom and the marshy grave that she was tucked into.
I don’t want everyone to die! I don’t want everything to end! I want to see Sprucey again, and give Mom a hug, and tell Dovesight I love her but it’s too late! It’s too late…
As she was lulled by the rhythm of her chest rising and falling, a memory came to her. It was the day she had spent with Brookstone at the river. Her older sister had given her encouragement after she got squeamish of the sky again. After Sandypaw had admitted she felt cowardly compared to the warrior life she was too scared to follow. She’d said, "Never forget to believe in yourself. Think of your friends. Think of your family. Your whole clan will give you the strength you need. They're the light that will guide you through the dark. They're what we fight for—those who we strive to protect and help. I believe in ya, Andy. I have faith."
I have to stop letting my loved ones down. I have to get up and do something for my family! Everyone’s still counting on me, whether its the end of the world or not. Whether I'm useless or not.
Still shaky, but she managed to pull her short legs out of the sludge. Okay, so who needed her? Or rather.. who did she want to see in her last hours? She could only think of Dovesight and Poppyshine, the two who cared for her most. She had to return the favor. Sandypaw padded out of her hidden cubby and tried to find the mollies.
She spotted Dovesight first, and ran to her side after pawing away tears. “Hi, sorry. How can I help?” she asked hoarsely before passing a reassuring smile to Roo. The little apprentice who was convinced Riverclan (and the whole forest) was doomed, just wanted to hide away in her family's fur one last time. But there was no need to be selfish when she still had a job to get done. She was still Sandypaw the medicine cat apprentice, even though she didn't feel worthy of it.
◐ Rushing beamed at the thanks and nodded her head vigorously. "No prob! I'm always ready and able!" At Poppyshine's words, her expression instantly turned incredulous. She stayed silent as Perchstar tried to reassure the deputy. She was right. Poppy needed to skedaddle first since she wasn't at a hundred percent and she could make things worse by staying there. She nodded as solemnly as she could then gave the deputy a crooked grin. "Yeah, yeah! What she said!" She shrugged a shoulder. "Your kits will be fine. Just chill for a moment and let us take you."
Rushing still didn't see the issue of the whole situation. Hearing Twistpool's voice, she craned her neck to get a glimpse of the old-timer. She was still annoyed at the tom but he made a good point. She couldn't stop her snickers in time. "Yeah! This ain't so bad! Just play follow the leader and we'll be fine. If you guys keep this up, we'll have to rename our clan to ScaredyClan." she called out. She then turned back once she heard Poppyshine agree. "Cool! Alright, let's go, then! Let's show this water who's boss!"
As Perch and Rushingpaw began to lead the deputy out of the camp, the leader suddenly stopped. Rushing turned to look at her with a curious expression. She blinked then grumbled, "Alright, alright! Leave everything up to me why don'tcha..." She paused for a moment before calling out to Perch's retreating figure, "Where are you going, though? Like, I thought we were gonna team this through the whole way!"
She pouted when she received no response. She shook her head and turned to address Poppyshine. "Soooo, you're stuck with me! Let's get you to the Fourtrees place, wherever that is. Let me know if I make a wrong turn or something. Actually, just tell me how to get there. That's a much better idea. Also, you can lean on me as much as you need. I'm already strong like a warrior!" She then began to usher Poppy out of the camp and into the territory with an unusually cheery disposition. After a moment of silence, she grinned and then said, "So, can you make me the next deputy after you? It can be like a favor for a favor! Makes sense, right?"
