Subject: Thorny Blossoms [Thornstalker] Tue 11 Oct 2022 - 16:33
"Hey, Thornstalker!" Having spotted her former apprentice across camp, Wolfblossom padded over with a greeting and a warm smile. "Come on, the weather's too nice to sit in camp," That had been her offer of going on patrol. Well, not so much offer as much as it was telling Thornstalker. And not accepting 'no' for an answer. Thornstalker had always been the quiet sort, which was fine, but it didn't mean she was immune to Wolfblossom dragging her on patrol like she did with her own siblings.
Outside of camp the sun was shining, though the breeze that ruffled Wolfblossom's fur had a chilly note to it that suggested colder weather was soon to follow. The evergreens didn't change, but the leaves on other trees were shifting to golds and reds and several already dotted the rocky forest floor, vibrant splashes of color against the dull rocks and soil. Wolfblossom headed toward the creek expectantly, hoping that the weather would remain nice enough for them to hunt well for a while longer.
"So, how's being a warrior been? Enjoying the freedom so far?" She turned her head, glancing down at her former apprentice.
It was hard for Thornstalker to control expression once Wolfblossom approached. She wanted to sneer, to growl at the site of her former mentor. Things hadn't changed much. Wolfblossom still towered over the pale ginger warrior, and she hated it. Not that she hated her mentor. No. Personality wise her former mentor was fine.. but physically? Thornstalker didn't like being reminded she was so small.. so with a small sigh she followed after Wolfblossom.
Thornstalker kept her distance, if she wasn't close to the other She-Cat the difference wasn't so bad. "Being a warrior is fine. Not having to be escorted everywhere is fine too." She only wished she was a little bigger. That is what would make being a warrior perfect. "Just us today?" Thornstalker remarked noting the lack of others.
Thornstalker it seemed, was as reticent as ever, but Wolfblossom wasn't going to let that get in the way.
"Yeah, not having to wait for an escort is nice." She agreed, "Honestly not much different than being an apprentice, though. Being assigned one of your own will switch things up a bit." Days spent training had been a nice break for the typical day to day, the need to teach and pass on knowledge to a less experienced cat breaking up what Wolfblossom had often thought of as monotonous.
"Just us," Wolfblossom called back cheerfully. There was rustling in the branches above, and she fell quiet, head lifting as she searched the tall trees for sight of what had made it. A squirrel scampered from branch to branch above, and Wolfblossom leapt into a nearby tree in pursuit. For all that her pale pelt stood out, there were less leaves to brush up against to accidentally alert prey of her presence, and her fangs met the squirrel's neck after a final, powerful leap.

Thornstalker couldn't help the internal cringe she felt at the thought of training her own apprentice. What if her apprentice ended up bigger than her? What if they were like her? She didn't see any of it going well. She still hadn't gotten quite used to the day to day of being a warrior, even if her ceremony wasn't that long ago. "I don't think I'm meant for an apprentice." She commented, before her companion darted off to hunt.
The pale warrior shifted her attention to some rustling in the bushes nearby. Thornstalker slowed her steps, treading quietly. She didn't know what was in the brush but she would figure it out and catch it. She moved forward, staying low, as soon as the brush parted and she saw the Rabbit picking at the ground. With not hesitation the younger warrior pounced.
Thornstalker attempted to catch a Rabbit; Successful, - 3 SP
"It's different than being taught, for sure. I think you'd make a fine mentor." Wolfblosom mewed, quickly falling silent as Thornstalker went after her own prey. She kept back, not wanting to be the reason her prey was spooked off, but it seemed Wolfblossom needn't have worried. Thornstalker was quick and precise, her prey falling easily.
"A rabbit?" She asked, clearly impressed, "Excellent catch, I don't think I've seen one of those on the fresh kill pile since I was a kit." She mewed.
Oh? Now that the smaller warrior thought about it she didn't recall there being many rabbits in the pile herself.. Was it a lucky catch or was it actually her skill? The pale warrior couldn't help but wonder. Did her small size actually give her an advantage to catching more complicated prey? She wasn't sure.
"I think it was just a lucky catch." Thornstalker stated, as she moved to bury her caught prey. "Not exactly a Windclan warrior so I don't think I could do it again."The pale warrior said with a shrug.
"You're quick enough on your paws, only one way to find out, right?" There was a hint of friendly challenge in her voice as she watched her apprentice bury the rabbit. "Stars know I wouldn't be fast enough." She shrugged. Wolfblossom had always been slightly clumsy in her movements, bulky frame and large paws not lending themselves to fine, quick movements. Certainly not nimble enough to traverse the thinner branches that were higher up on trees, and she suspected that chasing faster ground prey would be much of the same. Most of their clanmates weren't suited to it, she would wager, but it didn't really bother her. Still, the catch had been impressive. With a twitch of her ears, Wolfblossom turned in search of more prey.
