It was a pleasant enough day for hunting; leaves from the trees that sparsely dotted ShadowClan's marsh drifted on the breeze- though, even counting their few trees, it was mostly pine needles that fell. They didn't drift quite so far, dropping down more than anything, and at least a few had landed on Thalia's head throughout the day, but she was nonetheless determined to provide for ShadowClan.

She wasn't a good hunter. That was no secret. Her strategy mostly included keeping a wide berth from the rest of her patrol (to avoid scaring off their catches), and hoping she got lucky.

That the mouse she was chasing more or less fell into her paws was nothing more than chance, but she was grateful all the same.

Swifthearts was a decent hunter.  Not the best in the clan but she could do pretty well.  She stalked around quietly.  Her patrolling partner Thalia had separated quite a bit which was fine as long as nothing snuck up on either of them.  She continued on her search having no luck so far yet .  The forest was slowly changing over as the temperature dropped from week to week.  

She finally found a little vole running around gathering food itself little seeds or whatever voles eat.  Hmm it hadn’t noticed her yet maybe she could pull this off?

She trapped it between her two front paws perfectly. Purring she hid it well so it could be retrieved after the hunt as she set out to find other things.

Not having to converse with his clanmates was welcome for this patrol, especially since the Sablepaw was learning how to hunt on his own. He didn't really want the others knowing he hadn't been taught such a skill, so instead he would be figure it out on his own. Swiftheart was still in his line of sight however, she was a useful study tool. Tiny paws drew Sablepaw's attention. Dropping to a crouch, Sablepaw stalked through the mud towards the sound, finding a fat rat with its back turned. This wouldn't be hard. Sablepaw leaped forward, paws outstretched and reaching for the prey. He caught it between his paws, but didn't expect the rodent to squeeze its way out so quickly, or at all. Another quick pounce had the rat pinned once more, and with a quick killing blow it went limp.

Thalia looked around, spotting a rabbit not too far away. It was a sight that wasn't all that common in the marsh, but she still seemed to spot a fair number of them- maybe just because she was so familiar with their general appearance, if she had to guess. She knew it was a bad idea to chase after it, but still... If she actually managed to catch it, it would be a welcome addition to the fresh-kill pile.

She gave chase, and leapt as soon as she saw an opening- which was, unfortunately, far too soon. She missed by a wide margin, and the rabbit had once again dashed off.

Not for the first time, she wondered if it was simply the same rabbit, who kept coming back for the sole purpose of taunting her.
