New shoes [open]

Willowpaw was walking by highpine when she heard the cries. Normally these walks were calm and soothing, with only the tangy aroma of the needles beaneath her paws. But that was not the case this time. Frantically, she dashed towards the noise, where she was met by a terrifing sight: Stoatpaw and Asterpaw facing off against a giant spiky beast.

For a second she was taken aback by the gravity of the situation; she knew that even together, the apprentices didn't stand a chance against it. After a few panicked seconds, she composed herself and shouted over to the other apprentices. "Should I go back to camp to get help?"

Asterpaw craned his neck behind him as Stoatpaw ran the direct opposite direction of him, toward the porcupine. The porcupine slowed, and even if it was only for a moment, he was thankful to have a second to catch his breath. His lungs stung. "What do we do!?" He called, looping back around, staying a safe distance away from the creature. They were both severely underprepared, there was only a slim chance they'd even be able to take themselves back to camp- he was feeling really weak already.

Out of what seemed like a hopeless, desperate situation, a ray of hope appeared in the form of Willowpaw. Thank goodness, maybe they'd have a chance of making it out of here after all. "Help us!!" He called. A part of him was angry that the other apprentice even suggested to go back to camp, there was no time and they'd lead it back. "Help us scare it off!"

Although afraid, Asterpaw charged toward the porcupine, attempting a move he'd only ever seen demonstrated, he'd never done it himself. Throwing himself beneath the porcupine, he reached up, claws outstretched and was desperately swiping in an attempt to land a blow. His claws never landed, though. The porcupine noticed him and, before he was able to move out of the way, dug it's claws into his exposed belly.

Asterpaw let out a scream and scrambled from underneath the porcupine, leaving a trail of blood behind him. He felt so weak and disoriented- was he dying? It wasn't like he had any time to think about it, because his vision quickly faded to black.

The porcupine, angrier now that another cat had showed up, looked for the nearest one and swung it's tail, hitting the cat with full force.

The first thing Crimson noticed was the smell of blood. His fur stood on end as the stench hit his nose.

The next thing was the screams. And the fear scent. He couldn't tell if it was his own or the cats he heard. But he knew that voice, and that drove his paws faster than they have ever gone.

When he got to the scene, there were three apprentices. Two were standing, albeit one was a bit bloodied. The other seemed clueless on what to do.

And his son laid motionless on the ground.

Red seemed to fill his vision, and without even thinking, he raced forward, rage and fear fueling every pawstep, until he was on top of the porcupine. And he held on, adrenaline numbing the pain the quills brought. He would kill this thing. He would kill it for what it did to his son.

He held the porcupine down, claws digging into it's throat, as he stilled it. Hopefully other cats would come soon, because these apprentices looked like they were on their last legs.

Crimsonflame used Leap And Hold, dealing 8 damage and costing 15 stamina. Porcupine is held for 2 turns. Crimsonflame takes a 5 hp deduction due to doing a full body attack.

Willowpaw's voice sounded behind him, and for a moment he was relieved, help had arrived. It was only another apprentice, but maybe the numbers they had against the beast would scare it off. "Asterpaw's right, get over here!" He was conscious of Asterpaw squeezing his way under the beast, but as soon as his attack failed, Stoatpaw's attention shot to his friend, and more importantly the trail he was leaving. His eyes went wide at the sight of it, and a horrified scream broke from him. The porcupine's tail promptly slammed into his side, sending the apprentice flying a short distance and leaving him winded. He lay there for a what felt like minutes, reclaiming his breath as the world stopped spinning. Struggling to his paws, he became aware of many sharp pains in his side. In front of him, a warrior clung onto the beast. On unsteady paws, Stoatpaw lumbered forward. He understood what Asterpaw had been trying, the only place on the beast's body not covered in spines was it's belly. Dropping to his side by the beast, he pushed with his hind legs, aiming for the porcupine's belly. Stoatpaw's hind legs exploded with pain as they met not with the porcupine's soft belly, but the sharp spikes covering its body. His opened his mouth to scream, the pain overwhelming him completely.

Stoatpaw used Belly Rake on the Porcupine, it was unsuccessful, resulting in -5 HP

With her claws unsheathed, she desperately striked out at the beast, trying to avoid it's sharp needles.

Letting out an angry screech, the porcupine turned to find that yet another cat had shown up, this one much larger and more powerful. Despite the two cats already defeated, the porcupine began to feel apprehensive. It was unsure of how long it would hold out. Before it knew it, one of the cats had it pinned to the earth. It squealed helplessly, thrashing in an attempt to release itself.

Crimsonflame grimaced as the porcupine thrashed about, keeping his grip as tight as possible. He silently cursed as Stoatpaw went down, although he was quickly replaced by Willowpaw in the battle. Gritting his teeth, Crimsonflame dug his claws in further. This thing was going to suffer for even thinking about hurting his son.

Crimsonflame continued Leap-And-Hold, dealing another 8 damage and costing 15 more stamina. He takes a 5 damage recoil.

Despite the porcupine's best efforts to break free, the cat atop it held onto it, digging it's claws in deeper. It let out more cries of distress as it scraped at the ground, but was still unable to free itself.

Porcupine is pinned!

Willowpaw watched as Crimsomflame rushed forward again, striking his paws down on the spiny beast's head. She could sense that it was nearly finished off; one or two more strikes would defeat it. Remembering her training with Spottedfrog, she dashed round the porcupine, heading for it's spiky tail.
She bit down hard on it, trying to ignore the spines, and pulled on it with all her strength. Hopefully that would give Crimsonflame time to finish it off once and for all.

Finally the porcupine was released from the cat's grip and was able to stand on it's own two feet again. The wounds on it's flesh stung and it's body was beginning to weaken. It turned toward it's opponents and grunted, ready to give it's all to defeat the cats. Suddenly, it felt great pressure on it's tail before it was suddenly pulled hard, knocking the porcupine right off of it's feet... again.

Porcupine is stunned!
