There was a soft drizzle permeating the canopy, dampening the ground and making the air thick and humid. It wasn't ideal weather to hunt in– most of the rodent's ThunderClan was best at catching were probably holed away, curled in their burrows to avoid the rain. But they had to at least make an attempt, especially with so many extra mouths to feed.
Flicking his tail to beckon the patrol along, Dayquill padded further ahead, separating himself from then. Under the smells of wet earth and foliage, he could tell there was a mouse nearby. Creeping through the underbrush, he spotted it soon enough, darting between roots. Crouching low, he pulled himself slowly forward until he was close enough to pounce. Practiced paws closed around it swiftly, and he gave the mouse a quick nip to the neck before burying it between the roots it'd just been rustling through. "We're off to a good start," he called to his patrolmates as he wandered back to them.
Dayquill attempted to catch a mouse. Catch successful! -3 SP.

Molepaw watched Dayquill, trying to gain more knowledge on hunting. She believed she was getting better, but she wanted to know newer techniques on hunting.
Molepaw caught the scent of another mouse, not too far from her current area. She nodded to Dayquill and snuck into the undergrowth. She caught sight of the mouse, and crouched lightly on her paws. When she was close enough, she pounced.
Molepaw tried to catch a mouse. The catch was a success. -3SP
Molepaw brought her catch to the patrol, and scraped some dirt over it. "I'd say that at this rate, we'll have plenty to bring to camp." She meowed lightly, just enough for the patrol to hear.
Whilst the others were busy fetching several mice for the clan, likely the far wiser situation, Stormsong couldn't help but find himself wandering to the outskirts of the patrol, passing by several streams. He eyed the small fish swimming in the creek, hardly bigger than his paw. A part of him was tempted to swipe a claw in for it, a little treat, but he shook his head and opened his mouth wide to catch other scents. He could mess around after getting dinner, he promised himself.
Instead, he happened upon a small sparrow, and wasted little time in getting low and bunching his haunches, ready to leap for it. When he thought the moment was right, the tom sprang, his paws snapping down on a twig he missed. The creature caught onto him and he was left swiping at air and feathers, coming down with nothing to show for it as he hit the ground. "Fox-dung," he hissed under his breath.
❒ After splitting off from the hunting patrol, Briarpaw started her meticulous search for prey she could potentially catch. Don't get her wrong, she had faith in the skills she'd been working on since the first day of her training. She was just more of a realist than an optimist and knew that there would be times when her hunts have her turn up empty-pawed. It was just how it was. She didn't mind. It was all good practice for her. She could always use these patrols to hone her abilities more.
❒ It took a while for her to finally come across some sort of prey. It was a squirrel—a true Thunderclan staple. She smiled softly to herself and dropped down into the hunting crouch. She needed to be extra careful with this one since the squirrel was close to a tree. She inched closer and closer while making sure she was out of sight. As soon as she was at a leap's distance, she did just that, leap.

❒ Briarpaw sighed and shook her head as she watched the squirrel disappear up into the tree. Oh well. She shouldn't have gone after something so close to its home. She'll have to keep looking then.

Molepaw snuck around the forest floor, looking for some good prey. She stumbled upon a rabbit that had not noticed her yet. She dropped into a hunter's crouch, slowly creeping towards the rabbit. When she finally reached a good distance, Molepaw pounced on the rabbit.
Molepaw attempted to catch a rabbit. She was successful. -3SP
She landed squarely on top of the rabbit. Molepaw was proud of her larger catch. She eagerly walked to her pile of prey, scuffing some dirt over her kill. She went to her sister, Briarpaw, and saw that she just missed a catch.
Molepaw didn't want to boast and make Briarpaw feel bad, so she came up with an idea. "Hi Briarpaw. I was wondering if you would want to try and do a hunt together. We could try to catch a squirrel, or even a bird." Molepaw mewed. She wanted to cheer her sister up , and figured a paired hunt would help her and both of them with their training.
Dayquill watched as the patrol dispersed, each in search of their own prey. Stormsong and Briarpaw missed their catches, though Molepaw was successful with both of hers; she had even managed to catch a rabbit. Dayquill blinked at it as the apprentice scraped dirt over her pile of prey. Odd to see in their territory, but it would feed a few cats well. He almost offered to say something to her, but she'd quickly shuffled off to talk to her sister. Instead, Dayquill padded closer to Stormsong, giving the younger warrior a slight nod. "You'll catch the next one. It's a good day for hunting." He mewed, offering an encouraging smile. With a swish of his tail, he turned away to search for more prey.
Luckily there was a robin waiting not too far off, pecking between the roots of a tree. Dropping into the ever-familiar crouch, Dayquill studied it for a moment, waiting to see if it would fly away. When it didn't, he drew himself forward slowly, waiting just a second longer before he pounced. Sharp claws closed around it before it could take off, and just as sharp teeth bit into its neck before it could alert the other prey animals to the patrols presence. Nodding, the golden tom returned quietly to the patrol, burying the robin with the rest of the prey.
Dayquill attempted to catch a bird. Catch successful! -3 SP.
The young tom let out a hefty sigh, taking a moment to lick a tuft of fur down on his chest in embarrassment. He knew that the older warrior had meant well, but it had almost felt like some sort of light-pawed scolding to him, like he was an apprentice all over again. And he certainly knew that he could do better, especially in the peak of green-leaf of all times. "Thanks, Dayquill." He murmured all the same, turning his attention back to the forest around them and trying to sniff out another prey.
He'd thought he had caught something interesting on the breeze, some sort of animal, not like he'd ever recognized before... but prey was prey, and he hadn't known any better. The ThunderClan cat crept through the undergrowth, coming up upon a shape that was bigger than any hare he'd ever seen! Bigger, and far more pointy, looking...?
Stormsong crept up for a closer look, before a low, snickering growl caught his attention. Before he had quite the chance to react, a tail went slinging his way, sending spikes digging into his flesh. The tom let out a long yowl as he reeled back, calling out for the rest of the patrol.
Stormsong tried to catch a birb again... and instead, a porcupine appeared! :') Yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay!
At the sound of a yowl, Molepaw glanced worryingly at Briarpaw. She rushed to Stormsong, eyes widening as she caught sight of a large, pointy creature. She looked at Stormsong, and back to the creature.
Fur bristling, she hissed at the creature. Lunging at it, Molepaw attacked, fearful, but ready.
