| OOC: Welcome to WCC! As part of ranking up, a warrior will use two primary mechanics; the hunting system and the battle system. Part of your requirements to become a warrior includes using both of these systems at least once. It sounds scarier than it is, you’ll be okay! I’m glad to help out. In real life, even when we’re really good at something, there’s always a chance that we might mess up. The hunting system adds that element and gives an extra level of believability. The most important things to know are:
1.) You will roll a “Hunting Die” to get a generated number between 1 and 10. Rolling a die is an option on web mode only (which you can do on mobile by clicking the top right corner and clicking “web version”). You will add this before you submit your post so that the number can be generated.
2.) Each Clan has different success rates with different prey, and the numbers change depending on the season. You’re not going to see a lot of fish caught in ShadowClan, for example. Generally, it’s a lot harder to hunt in leafbare than greenleaf. SkyClan has the highest success rates with catching birds and squirrels; any roll from 1-8 will result in a successful catch. You can find the ranges for any prey type you’d like in the full Hunting System guide.
3.) You want lower rolls so you can be within the range for success for the prey you’re trying to catch. The only special case is a 10 in all seasons or 8-10 in a “harsh season”. This will produce a predator. At that point, you would use the battle system to take on the predator until it flees or you get a KO or it KOs you. If that takes place, I’ll write you another guide. :)
4.) An attempt at hunting uses Stamina Points (SP), whether you’re successful or not. As an apprentice, Stoatpaw has 20 HP and 60 SP. As a T1 warrior, Frostbite has 30 HP and 80 SP. Generally, all seasons except leafbare will be -3 SP per hunting attempt, and leafbare would be -5 SP. If a “harsh season” is called, these would change to -5 SP and -7 SP respectively.
5.) After you post and see your die roll, you will edit the post to reflect the result. A capture if successful, or failure, or the arrival or a predator.
Frostbite walked towards a healthy thicket. More than anything, Stoatpaw needed to hunt for his Clan. He was still young, and battle training could be done very carefully. But hunting was something that would keep the Clan strong. Something he could see the immediate result of. And something that Frostbite felt taught her the big things about battle too. How do you know to lunge for the soft spots if you never have seen it in action? Hunting required reflexes. And as much as big cats liked to talk, the faster cat usually wins the fight. “ Good morning. It’s early. It needs to be otherwise it gets hotter than Thunderpath, and I figure you’d want to be in the shade when that happens.” “ Hunting is the most important skill a warrior can have. Tracking makes sure you get there first. Reflexes get you your catch. And hungry cats can’t fight worth a squirrel’s tail. Prey running well is how we all survive. Don’t forget that.” Frostbite approached a tree, showing how she splayed her paws wide for as much grip as possible. She climbed to a sturdy branch about a foxlength overhead. “ We are the only Clan who climbs the trees for our prey; we are one of the most well-defended Clans in the forest. We can ambush from the trees, knock our enemies down before they even know we’re here.” “ Prey senses your movement, your sounds… find your target and leap for it.” The silver and black marbled tabby spotted a huge morning dove on a branch beneath her. Her tail balanced her as she made the leap, aiming for the neck. Frostbite attempted to catch a dove and was successful, -3 SP!
Frostbite20/20 HP 77/80 SP (-3) Frostbite snapped the dove’s neck as she pounced, killing it before it even knew what happened. “ Whether you’re in the trees or on the ground, the process is the same. Be quiet. Find your prey. Wait for the moment. Then leap, don’t hesitate, and get your quarry.” “ Now, you try. You can do it! It takes practice, but soon enough you’ll be able to catch anything.”

| Stoatpaw followed his mentor eagerly. This was his first time out of camp. Listening half-heartdely to Frostbite's words, he took in the sights and sounds all around him. They seemed so different from what he had experienced in camp. Stoatpaw shook his head. Focus! This stuff is important! He turned his attention back to Frostbite just in time to see her climbing the tree. He stared at her in amazement as she ascended the tree. His fur prickled in excitement. He wanted to be up there. He needed to be up there. The feeling of longing only seemed to grow as she leaped for the dove. Everything had seemed so graceful to the young apprentice.
Frostbite's words of encouragement galvanized the apprentice, forcing him into action before she had finished her sentence. Spreading his claws on the tree as she had done, Stoatpaw began his climb. His blood seemed to pump hard, and his heart beat wildly as his paws finally found purchase on a branch. He shook slightly as he looked at the forest below, eyes landing on a small bird on another tree. Balancing his tail as his mentor had, he jumped for the thrush.
Wings flapped thunderously, scaring the thrush from the branch. Stoatpaw's claws furiously scrambled on the branch, thrill turning to fear as he pulled himself up. He was not given a chance to settle himself, however. Talons clawed at the apprentice's back sending searing pain through him and drawing blood. Stoatpaw turned to his attacker, nearly losing his balance on the branch as he did. As it circled around him, Stoatpaw yelled frantically to his mentor while trying to keep his balance on the branch. "Frostbite, help me!" Fear filled the apprentice's voice as he dug his claws into the branch, keeping his eyes on the bird.
Stoatpaw attempted to catch a thrush but encountered an Eagle! It used Talon Strike on Stoatpaw, dealing -7 HP and costing -10 SP
