I Will Be There ~ Snowfoot & Light

The cold Leafbare wind howled in the trees of the forest, like a ravenous wolf desperate for anything it could hunt. Tucked away in her own little den, a silver tabby sheltered from the storm. A terrified black and white kit huddled into her fur, cowering every time the wind rose. Softly, the mother began to sing a lullaby to soothe her baby.

”In the light that falls at moonrise
In the rhythm of the rain
In the miracle of ordinary days
In the hush of night I will be in the whisper of lovers
Everywhere, you will find me there
In the rustle of the brambles
In the bustle of the world
In a thousand little unexpected ways
When you lift your gaze I will be like the shimmer of one small star
Out there, shining everywhere
I will be there beside you through the lonely nights that fall
So close your eyes, remember my embrace
I will be there like mercy; I will find you through it all
This do I swear, I will be there”

As she sang her lullaby, Light watched her precious little Snow relax and slowly drop off to sleep. Light was determined she would be there for her daughter always. Little did she know just how hard that would be.

A still but cold night had settled over ShadowClan territory. By the light of the moon, a slender black and white apprentice had slipped out of camp to visit her mother’s grave. Snowpaw would do this often and many times, including tonight, she would bring some small gift. She laid a small smooth pebble beside the other little trinkets and started up at the night sky. “I miss you, mom,” she whispered.
Light was closer than Snowpaw knew. She knew she couldn’t be seen nor heard, but she felt she could try to make herself known. Brushing gently up against her daughter, she began to sing.

”In a language never spoken
Live the promises we've made
In the endless love that owns me heart and soul
In the certainty I will always be true
And as near as your next breath, you will find me there
In the echo of a footstep
In the haunting of the wind
In mysterious extraordinary ways
Through the darkest sky I will be like the shimmer of one small star
Out there, shining everywhere”

A change seemed to come over Snowpaw and she began to softly sing the lullaby that had somehow come to mind. Light’s heart soared as she sang along.
”I will be there beside you through the lonely nights that fall
So close your eyes, remember my embrace
I will be there like freedom; I will find you through it all
This do I swear, I will be there”

Many moons later, Snowfoot lay in the nursery, singing Deerkit, Slugkit, and Lightkit, her very own babies, to sleep. They were a bit fussy, and she actually made it to the end of the lullaby.

”In the sound of thunder
In the thrill of wonder
In the star that we both share
Through both tears and laughter
Now and ever after
Look for me, I will be there
I will be there beside you through the lonely nights that fall
So close your eyes
Remember my embrace
I will be there
Like justice; I will find you through it all
This do I swear, I will be there

Though unseen, Light also lingered in the nursery. And she couldn’t have been prouder.

Aww this is so sad. I have always really liked Snow as a character and this backstory is so sweet and sad at the same time. I also love how snow named one of her kits after her mom.

If you want maybe we could do a topic with snow together at some point.
