Tangles and Roots [C]

Hunting was always a tough subject for Reedpaw-- the land prey even moreso than fish. To keep completely silent just for a chance of a meal..? The tabby tom didn't enjoy it. And mice and squirrels didn't simply hide under the surface of water's edge. No, they had to make it hard by scuttling behind stray grasses and rocks, and burrowing into any hole they could find.. But, unfortunately that was what he was training for. (Well, more like, this was the only patrol he could convince a warrior to let him on.)

At least his brother had come. Though he had a little bit of a.. reputation, for following so strictly to the rules- that didn't mean he was unpleasant to be by. Especially for such a boring patrol; maybe he could even make it a little fun.. "I bet I can catch more than you, Sprucepaw!" He challenged, taking a few steps ahead of the tortoiseshell with a wide grin.

Without checking to make sure Sprucepaw had accepted, Reedpaw darted off- taking whatever advantage he could for the 'competition'. Eventually his ears caught sense of a robin chirping; turning, he noticed it on a low beech branch.. Bunching up his long legs, the apprentice prepared his leap. Right about ready to jump- the wind shifted; and with a chirp of surprise, the robin flew off. He let out a huff of frustration. Fish didn't have the problem of suddenly smelling his fur.. Why were they even bothering to learn how to catch these types of prey? Reedpaw glanced back toward Sprucepaw- maybe the other apprentice had more luck.
