A Bright Sunhigh [C]

Today marked her first morning as a mentor.. Foxglare couldn't help but smile at the thought; the pride of the new role, with all its new duties was an honor to fulfill. She'd spent time the previous night considering what part of the territory she'd train Brightpaw in first.. Eventually, she settled on Snakerocks. The snakes wouldn't be active in the sun's blazing heat; and though badgers made their home there, their musky scent was unmistakable. She'd find its smell before it found them. Plan set, Foxglare padded into the apprentice's den, quietly calling into the once-familiar den. "It's sunhigh, Brightpaw; we're going to train your ability in hunting." Taking a glance to make sure the dark-furred molly followed, Foxglare began out for the rocky territory.

"Let's see your hunting stance," Foxglare meowed; taking a moment to sniff the air. A small scent of rodent hung in the air; but other, subtler prey smells were present. The warrior turned her attention back to her smaller clanmate; "There are mice by here; pay careful attention to make sure your steps are quiet, rather than quick." With the simple instruction; Foxglare took a few steps back, gazing carefully to Brightpaw's movement. The apprentice had the enthusiasm- she just needed to make sure it was used properly.

Brightpaw was still tired from yesterday’s ceremony but managed to wake up when Foxglare had called to wake her up, but didn’t feel like saying anything when she got out of the den, when she stretched she felt a lot better nd noticed they were headed to rocky territory, no need to ask then she thought to herself then she finally realized that this would be her first practice as an apprentice, suddenly she felt even better than before and was eager to begin. She thought about asking how far away this place was but before she could say anything thought better of it, she didn’t want to be annoying.

Once they arrived she realized that this place was Sunning rocks she must say the elders had described Sunning rocks pretty accurately, then before she knew it they stopped Foxglare wanted to know her hunting stance and sniffed for prey then she thought she smelled something when Foxglare had said there were mice nearby and Foxglare had said walk carefully not quickly and that was pretty good advance in her opinion then she finally saw it a mouse and got close enough to where it was it was in paw reach and leaped for it, and went over it and bonked into a tree then she realized Foxglare hadn’t exactly taught her how to leap at prey yet, and felt her pelt grow hot with embarrassment.

"Ah; good attempt, Brightpaw!" Foxglare encouraged. "Your crouch is well-balanced- I appear to have forgotten many of the other factors in hunting, though.." The ginger tabby felt a bit awkward for that mistake-- the black-furred apprentice was hardly a day out from the nursery. Of course she wouldn't know on how to pounce; her only role was to teach Brightpaw these things.. Foxglare placed the thought away. There was time to self-criticize later, and at the moment, she needed to actually train her apprentice. "Here- watch me for how to properly leap. The jump should propel you forward more than any other direction; so pay attention to how I push off the ground," the warrior directed, dropping low to the rocky ground. The smell of mice- past the one Brightpaw had hunted- still hung well in the air. She opted to follow a scent downwind of her, and slowly her large form crept closer and closer.. Bunching up her legs, Foxglare calculated her pounce one last time and-

A musky smell swarmed her senses. Brightpaw. Her mind immediately darted to- Foxglare twisted behind; Was Brightpaw okay- Was Brightpaw okay- and soon met gaze with a fox. Without thinking, the warrior sprung toward the red-furred predator; claws widely spread from her paws. "Stay back!" She yowled; and which the fox took full advantage of the moment. Foxglare choked out a gasp of pain, the red beast clamped down on her leg. Her vision blurred, and stomach turned as the predator shook its own body.
