leafpaw kept his focus on brackenwing, he aimed a front paw blow again aiming this time towards brackenwings neck, his eyes focused sharply on his mentor and his paws stayed sheathed

Green eyes on her opponent, Brackenwing sidestepped as Leafpaw's paw arced toward her neck, allowing his paw to graze her shoulder instead. Going for the neck was a good idea in theory. In practice, opponents tended to not stay still for such a thing unless they had no choice and were already on the ground. They were only sparring however and with this only being Leafpaw's first day of training Brackenwing wasn't inclined to make the sparring session too difficult just yet. Eventually he would need to learn how to handle himself when a larger opponent had him pinned down or used tricks on him. Today though, just the basics would suffice.

Brackenwing... Hadn't been expecting Leafpaw to leap at her. Letting out a muffled "Oof." as she sank to the ground under her apprentice's very unexpect weight, Brackenwing grinned. "Very good. Pinning an opponent is the best way to gain an advantage over them, even temporarily." He was learning quickly, it seemed, and that was everything Brackenwing could have asked for. Maybe this mentoring thing wasn't going to be as scary as she thought it would be.

Brackenwing shifted her weight, preparing to break free of Leafpaw's hold. That was the trouble with pinning an opponent - you couldn't keep them pinned forever. If one was lucky enough to get a secure grip they could hold onto their opponent for a little bit longer as Leafpaw had. He seemed a bit distracted by his success in pinning her however... And Brackenwing wasn't going to mention it. Instead, she twisted, neatly sliding from his grip and turning to face him without warning. How else was he to learn?

Brackenwing's whiskers twitched in amusement at Leafpaw's glare. "I told you, that advantage is usually temporary." She chuckled, taking the blow from his front paw. In a real fight, unsheathed claws meant that would do more damage. She swiped her own paw at him in turn. They'd been sparring for a bit and had been hunting before that, Leafpaw, she thought, wouldn't quite have the energy to dodge. Either way, the spar was over, and it was beginning to get late, anyways. If Leafpaw wasn't tired yet, he would be soon enough, she judged. "I think we're done for the day. You did well, Leafpaw. Let's collect the prey from earlier and head back to camp."

leafpaw lowered his ears feeling his mentors attack he shook himself,* i don't wanna stop training* he thought as his eyes gazed heavily on his mentor nodding his head he went to the prey he caught, he then followed brackenwing" if a cat was battling with another cat and a hawk swoops in to join the battle then does that interfere with the clan battles?" he asked curiously

Picking up her own prey, Brackenwing nodded at Leafpaw's question. "Hawks, weasels and foxes are a common threat to everyone. They wouldn't discriminate on who they attack, so banding together even temporarily to fight off a larger threat would be wise, if it happened. The squabbles between clans don't seem to matter as much if there's some big beast tearing at everything in sight." She explained, continuing to lead the young apprentice towards camp.

leafpaw listened as they walked to camp," what will i learn tommorow?" he asked curiously

What would he learn tomorrow? Brackenwing... Hadn't... Thought quite that far. She was new to the world of being a mentor, and her nervous anxiety over that made her unsure. She'd have to ask Smallbean for some advice on how to deal with that, but for now Leafpaw deserved an answer. "I think we'll continue to work on battle skills. Hunting is just as important and we'll work on that too, but with how often I've seen hunts gone awry, I think it's better to prioritize you knowing how to defend yourself first." She mewed, "You'll be going on patrols with me and our clanmates too, you'll be able to watch and pick things up from them as well."
