Yarrowpaw

Yarrowpaw spent a lot of time laying around these days. He was glad that he and Woolypaw had managed to escape their encounter with that fox with only moderate injuries, both of them expected to make full recoveries, but Yarrowpaw had found it hard to stand still for a few moments, lest a few weeks. His leg was healing fine though, luckily. Just a few new— cool looking, if Yarrowpaw did say so himself— scars, and a new twist in his leg that made his paw turn inwards. Nothing Yarrowpaw couldn’t handle; he was going to be a warrior soon, anyway.

Sighing miserably, the white tom sunk further into himself, lounging in the shade of camp to avoid the heat. Woolypaw was off resting too… there truly was nothing for him to do. Distantly, Yarrowpaw hoped that some cat would run over and give him something to think about other than the dull pain in his leg.

Sleepypaw

The usually tired apprentice's tail lashed with irritation. Her training had been halted due to Kitespring not feeling well for the past few days. Her siblings had been getting further and further ahead in their training, and the she-cat hated it. The usual exhaustion that plagued her took a step to the side to make room for the fury and irritation. Sleepypaw nearly ran into Yarrowpaw as she marched to the shade. Thankfully, Yarrowpaw was noticeable with his bright white pelt, and the she-cat was able to stop before him. Considering him for a moment, she mewed. "Have you done any battle training yet? I need to practice." Even if Kitespring wasn't feeling well, Sleepypaw was certain to continue her training with or without her.

Yarrowpaw’s head shot up upon Sleepypaw’s sudden appearance, surprised by her forwardness but excited nonetheless. He’d sparred a couple of times, some with her father and some with his friends. He assumed that he could consider the fox attack a spar as well, though calling it anything more than a “foolish mistake” would upset Perchstar. The young apprentice wasn’t too keen on summoning any wrath upon himself while he was still healing.

”I’ve fought a couple of times, yeah. Even against a predator once! If anyone asks about that, by the way, me and Woolypaw would’ve totally won even if Perchstar didn’t show up. We were kicking its tail!” Slowly and carefully rising to his feet, still watchful of his healing leg, Yarrowpaw steadied his stance and turned his body to fully face Sleepypaw. ”We can spar, if you want! I won’t go easy on you though!”

"I wouldn't expect you to." Sleepypaw mused. Fighting a predator like that was impressive and all the more reason why she would choose him to spar with. The apprentice made special care to make sure she kept her claws in. She didn't want to hurt her clanmate. Awake, unlike her usual tired appearance, the apprentice crouched low, her gaze looking over her foe. His leg seemed hurt, the way he had been walking before. Perhaps she could use that to her advantage. Angling towards that side of him, the apprentice swished her fluffy tail and lunged forward.  Dodging past his lanky legs, Sleepypaw snatched his thin tail out of the air and pulled hard, hoping to stun the other apprentice. Just as her father taught her.

Sleepypaw uses Tail Yank, Dealing 7 Damage, and using 15 stamina. Yarrowpaw is Stunned!

”Hey!” Yarrowpaw squawked, arms flailing in indignation as Sleepypaw tugged him around like he weighed nothing. Even before the attack Yarrowpaw wasn’t very quick on his feet, and now his incoordination is only exacerbated— he was down and out already, and the two apprentices had barely started sparring. ”You have to give me time to react! I’m injured! I’m crippled!” Yarrowpaw yowled, immediately taking everything he said about “not going easy” back. Sleepypaw was fast!

Yarrowpaw is stunned for one round, and cannot fight!

Sleepypaw

Satisfied her attack did it's job, Sleepypaw spun to face him, a quirk of her mouth betraying her amusement. "Oh, you won't go easy on me? But I have to go easy on you?" The she-cat mewed, tail lashing as she planned her next move. "No, I don't think so." Bunching up her legs, Sleepypaw leaped forward, catching Yarrowpaw's side and bowling him over with her momentum. The she-cat certainly wasn't as tall as Yarrowpaw, but he was lanky, which made him less coordinated than her. Especially with his injury. But, it wouldn't be much of a spar if Yarrowpaw didn't get a chance to fight back. Stepping aside, she let the tom get back to her paws. Green eyes already calculating her next move.

Sleepypaw used Jumping Strike, Dealing 6 damage and using 7 stamina.

Yarrowpaw groaned dramatically as he stumbled back onto his paws, eyeing Sleepypaw with a desperate look as she smiled at him. A little evilly, might he add.

”I’ve basically got three legs! You’ve got four, Sleepypaw! You’re taking advantage of me-EEEE!” Yarrowpaw came face-to-face with the soil yet again as Sleepypaw threw him to the ground, wonky legs splayed out in the air like a dead bug. This wasn’t fair at all! He briefly considered complaining to Owlshriek about his daughter’s sparring ethics, but quickly decided that the elder warrior would probably just be proud of her.

The odd-eyed tom huffed, using his uninjured shoulder to turn himself right-way up and into a fighting position. It was still a little unstable with his foreleg, but it was a fighting position nonetheless, one that he used to maneuver into a leap of his own, knocking Sleepypaw to the ground herself. He quickly pinned her forearms with his large paws, ears twitching happily as he giggled down at her. ”Fine! I won’t go easy on you then!”

Yarrowpaw uses Leap And Hold, costing 15 points in stamina for each turn and dealing 6 points in damage! Sleepypaw is pinned for TWO TURNS!

The air knocked out of her, Sleepypaw blinked the sunlight out of her eyes and refocused on Yarrowpaw. His much stronger paws held her down. Biting back a snarl-- they were just sparing, of course-- her green eyes flashed with energy unusual to the sleepy apprentice. She wasn't going to lose! The apprentice ducked her paws in close, slacking her muscles, so his grip slipped slightly, then Sleepypaw tried to make her escape. Unsuccessful, her paws battered his side, dealing minimal damage in a real battle.

Sleepypaw uses Duck and Twist! Using 5 stamina, Rolling for Damage and escape! She does not manage to escape! She deals four damage.

Yarrowpaw giggled excitedly as Sleepypaw failed to escape his grip— was he really that strong? He was sure that his legs would be enough of a weakness, exacerbated by his broken foot, but still Sleepypaw couldn’t get away. In all honesty, the apprentice was ecstatic, though he tried to play it off with an air of confidence. Besides, Yarrowpaw knew that he didn’t have long before Sleepypaw would eventually win anyway; he was already tired, winded, and sore.

”Not so confident now, huh Sleepypaw? I’m still just as much of a warrior in training as you are, even if I look weak!” Yarrowpaw mewled happily. His smile quickly faded, however, when he saw the irritation grow steadily over his friend’s face. He should have known she would take a spar so seriously…

Rearing his head up, large ears lowered on his head, the apprentice swung down to knock his forehead against Sleepypaw’s chest, careful to not make impact too hard. Unfortunately, the headbutt winded him as well, leaving the tom heaving on top of the poor she-cat.

Yarrowpaw used Headbutt, costing 5 points in stamina and dealing 4 points in damage! Sleepypaw is still pinned for one round!

Stars above! Did he need to knock the wind from her again? Inhaling quickly, she shot him a glare. "Is it that you are a warrior in training, or you are simply heavy with lubber?" Her voice hinted at amusement as she tried to wiggle out with no success. "But, either way--" She brought a paw up and smacked the side of his head, claws sheathed to prevent Yarrowpaw from getting any more hurt than he already is.

"In fact." She began as the battle was won in her favor, wiggling out of his grasp. "You're all legs! Your warrior name has got to be Yarrowlegs or something like that." She shook out her pelt and helped the tom onto his paws.

Sleepypaw used Front Paw Blow, dealing four damage and using five stamina. Sleepypaw has won the Spar!

”I’m as much of a sleek fish-eater as you are, Sleepypaw! I’m all muscle! Hard, trained—”

Yarrowpaw gasped as Sleepypaw managed to push him off of her, his balance failing as he tumbled to the earth. She had won! Yarrowpaw couldn’t say that he was really that surprised— Sleepypaw was going to make a fine warrior, just like her father. Yarrowpaw, however…

”Ah, no! My warrior name is going to be something strong, like… like… Yarrowfang! Yarrowclaw! Yarrowbite! Yarrow…” Yarrowpaw rambled, gratefully accepting Sleepypaw’s help getting back up. He might have gone a little too far for his poor leg. Gazing down at it, twisted and a little ugly, Yarrowpaw couldn’t help but feel a little dampered. ”I don’t know if I’m gonna get to be a warrior at all, really. Perchstar already added a moon to my training— what if I just mess up again? I can’t do anything right…”

Yarrowpaw was KO'ed and Sleepypaw wins the spar!
