Subject: Smoke Signal [open] Mon 8 Jun 2020 - 9:38
Smokekit rolled quickly to her paws, gray-green eyes blinking in the gloom of the nursery. She'd been asleep, but now sunlight filtered in and she was very much awake. Did she have to wait until the others were awake as well to look outside?
But it was probably just after sunhigh, and Smokekit was tired of being stuck in the nursery. Someone had commented that she was impatient, but Smokekit wholeheartedly disagreed with that notion. Why waste time laying aruond when there were things that could be explored?
Smokekit carefully picked her way to the entrance of the nursery, head peeking out of the branches curiously at the sight of the rest of the camp.

They say there's no smoke without fire-- but in this case, Fire(kit) was a while away, curled up beneath a tree's cool shadow as she watched the camp and its inhabitants. She'd gotten a good grasp of most of the other SkyClan cats, she thought- her family most of all, but she'd picked up a few little things from observing the others as well. (Like how some of the clan seemed not to get along too well with the rest of the clan- which was very weird, because everyone should be getting along, no?) And yet, there remained one fellow kit she'd been unable to glean more than a few basic scraps of knowledge on: Smokekit. Maybe the kit was avoiding the spotlight, as hard to catch as her name suggested; or maybe it was simple coincidence- but either way, all Firekit knew was two things:
- Knowledge the first, that Smokekit had fur even fluffier than her own. Somehow. - And knowledge the second, that Smokekit was impossible to pin down for more than a few seconds. (Figuratively. But also probably literally, she looked pretty bulky-- or maybe that was just the fluff...)
At any rate- when Firekit was awoken from her midday nap once more (she'd resigned herself to never getting a wink of sleep in this nursery), she'd expected... well, she hadn't expected Smokekit, at least. She didn't question it, though- plus, as unwilling as she was to admit it, Firekit was bored. So rather than go back to sleep, she prowled forwards, quiet as a swooping owl, and murmured what was supposed to be Hey, Smokekit,, but really came out as "Mmmrmrmrmrmrmmm." Okay, maybe she was still waking up.

Mistpaw missed her siblings. Even though Bloodpaw and her other sister, Adderpaw, were now apprentices, she missed her other younger siblings. Especially Firekit. So, Mistpaw decided to go into the nursery. Her eyes lit up when she saw her younger sister. “Firekit.” She whispered softly at her orange-colored fluffy sibling. “Hello. Who’s this?” Mistpaw’s cream and gray tabby head tilted to the side as she spotted a fluffy looking kit. Even fluffier than Firekit, somehow. Her mouth twitched in amusement. Turning back towards her sister, who didn’t seem particularly awake, Mistpaw brushed her tail across Firekit’s head. Okay, maybe it was harder than a light brush. More like a little whack.

At the sound behind her, Smokekit jumped slightly, not having expected one of the other (many) kits. "Hi?" She asked, whiskers twitching with some amusement as the other kit still seemed to be waking up. Her fellow kit was nearly as fluffy as Smokekit herself, and Smokekit guessed based on pelt color that this has to be Firekit. Being slightly younger, and more focused on exploring the camp and her surroundings, Smokekit hadn't really gotten to know some of the other kits as well yet.
Smokekit glanced up at the second cat that had showed up. She was larger, too large to be one of the kits and besides, unfamiliar. A 'paw, maybe? 'Paw seemed right. As to which 'paw, Smokekit wasn't sure. The few times she had managed to sneak over to where the apprentices' den was, nobody had been there. It was disappointing to the ever-curious ball of fluff. "I'm Smokekit," she responded, "who're you?"

Mistpaw smiled shyly at the little kit named Smokekit. “Mistpaw. Firekit’s sister.” She whispered softly. “I’m actually kind of young for an apprentice.” That was true. Mistpaw had been apprenticed a little over a moon ago. That made her about approximately seven moons old. She guessed that this kit was about four to five moons old. Firekit was almost an apprentice too. That was good. This kit, Smokekit, would probably be one soon. “What are you two up to?”

Were the orange-furred kit a little more awake, she probably would've seen the tail-whack coming-- but alas, in her moment of weakness, she was betrayed by her own sister, her own flesh and blood; a Judas of cats. A... Mewdas. (Hey, at least she was awake now.) With a perfectly, almost terrifyingly, calm expression, Firekit turned to Mistpaw and replied, "You're not so old that I can't put worms in your food, you know," a faint smile the only indication of her humor. She was totally joking. Probably. Maybe. At any rate, the orange tabby looked back at Smokekit, dipped her head slightly in greeting, and finally introduced herself; "Firekit. We meet at last."
"As for what we're up to- I honestly have no idea," Firekit admitted, her amber gaze taking in the camp as she adjusted to the daylight. "I just found myself in need of something a little more interesting than playing with moss. I don't suppose either of you had any zany antics planned for today?"

Smokekit let out a soft laugh at Firekit's antics with Mistpaw. Firekit seemed to live up to her name, she noted. Smokekit liked that. "Good to finally meet you," she responded with a wave of her tail. And really, how hadn't they met before now? Oh, Smokekit had caught glances of the fiery she-kit here and there, but the two never seemed to quite be in the same place at the same time, it was true.
"Good question..." Smokekit muttered, "I was getting sick of being inside," she admitted. Too much laying around and doing nothing. Playing with moss? Boring. Very boring. The fluffy kit turned her gaze back towards the rest of the camp thoughtfully. Exploring would be much less boring, talking with others was less boring. Really, so long as she wasn't sitting around idle (hadn't there been enough of that for the day?) Smokekit would be happy.
