Poppyshine
Poppyshine purred as she pressed back some of Olivekit’s fur. She took special care to press down some of the springy parts of the fur and adjust her whiskers so they were nice and straight. As she leaned back to get a good look at Olivekit, her heart ached at seeing the spitting image of her father on the kit’s face. She wished that Rushtalon could be here to see his first kit be apprenticed, but she at least hoped that wherever he was, he was alive and happy.
She shook her head. It was not the time to be thinking about all of that. She had her beautiful kit to get apprenticed. “Remember that this is an important ceremony. Don’t make too much of a fuss. And keep your chin held high. And don’t press your nose to your mentor’s too early.” Poppyshine paused and took another breath. “You’ll be great, sweetheart. Let’s go.”
Poppyshine stepped out of the nursery with Olivekit and moved to sit her down near the willow branch. With her kit ready, she stepped onto the willow branch and announced, “Let all cats old enough to catch their own fish gather for a Clan meeting.”
Though Olivekit had already seemingly groomed her fur to perfection earlier that morning, she sat reluctantly as Poppyshine forced it flat, ears pinned back against her skull. At first she protested it, whining about how she’d already finished, but eventually gave up when she realized that there was no stopping her mother. When she finally finished, Olivekit breathed a sigh of relief, twisting her muzzle to readjust her whiskers to how she liked them. As Poppyshine fretted over Olivekit’s behavior during the ceremony, she rolled her eyes. ”Mooom, I know!” She mewed, excitement brewing in her chest. She hadn’t meant it to be rude, but she was just so impatient. When, finally, Poppyshine left and shifted her toward the willow branch, Olivekit’s expression turned up and her entire demeanor changed. It portrayed confidence and just a hint of excitement. A bright, almost smug smile was plastered onto her maw as she watched cats gather around, all for her.
Sandykit sat nearby as Mumma prepared Olivekit for the ceremony. As well as grooming, she gave the kit advice on how to behave. What she said made the ceremony sound so.. serious. Formal. Her ears angled backwards slightly. Is all that important? Sandykit began to stress. Will she get in trouble if she isn’t perfect? Will I? Suddenly she had anxieties about her ceremony she had never considered. Oh scales I’m gonna mess up...
She watched Poppyshine and Olivekit leave the den for the ceremony. Sandykit specifically watched Olivekit. Confidence radiated from the kitten. She envied that. I hope it's as easy as she makes it look.
Sprucekit sighed a little at his siblings impatiente, hopefully she would follow the rules as the first one of their litter to become apprentice and set a good expectation for the rest of them. He smiled at her with a wide grin "oh I cant wait! I wonder who your mentor will be?" he purred excited for his sister.
He noticed his more shy reserved sister Sandykit nearby and decided to stick with her. "Wanna watch together?" he offered

Poppyshine really hoped that Olivekit would do well as an apprentice. All of the kits had reached their age for apprenticeship, but they would be apprenticed in the order that they were ready—Olivekit would be the first one. It was hard to let go of that first kit, even if Olivekit was not actually going to be going anywhere. Aside from the apprentice den, anyway.
She shook the anxious thoughts from her mind and looked to her kit again. “Olivekit,” she mewed, gesturing for her to step forward. “You have reached your age of six moons and are ready to be apprenticed. From this day on, until you receive your warrior name, you shall be known as Olivepaw.” Her eyes scanned for the cat she would be calling forth next. Her instinct had been to choose Perchstar to entrust with her first kit ready for apprenticeship, but Perchstar had a lot to juggle already. Poppyshine knew that she could trust the other warriors in the clan. “Your mentor shall be Harebounce. May her experiences teach you greatly.” She stepped off the branch and resisted the urge to dash over to Olivepaw and tell her what a good job she’d done—she could wait until after Olivepaw and Harebounce were acquainted.
