Stormpaw flinched back from the sudden wave and ended up having to elegantly spit a splash of grainy water out of his mouth, coughing in between his mild chokes and the sheer laughter that rumbled out of this throat. "That's freezing," he gasped, stepping away from the river and shaking much of the droplets off his pelt - for all the good it did anyway. His fur, usually thick and sleek, warm with the forest sun was now a slopping mess that clung to his frame. He was still a large tom, but the weight of the river made him look almost half his size.

"Bold of you to take on the future leader of ThunderClan!" The silver tabby boasted, hardly unable to hide his grin as he prepared to go where few ThunderClan cats had gone before... back into the river. Willingly. Stormpaw leaned on his powerful hind legs for a moment before springing forward and leaping into the water as round as he could make himself, if only to cause a bigger wave to wash over the other apprentice.

This was alright, wasn't it? If anyone asked, he simply fell into the water. If nobody saw them, no harm, no foul?

Sleepypaw

The water certainly was in fact, freezing. But, Sleepypaw paid it no mind. So, when Stormpaw leaped in, Sleepypaw turned her head away, flattening her ears to keep the water from flowing into her ears. The heat, compared to the rushing, freezing water cooled down her pelt much more than expected. A happy purr left the apprentice, shaking out her head as she treaded water towards a shore to stand. "Future leader, huh?" She mewed, a twitch of her whiskers as she ducked her shoulder under the tom to keep him aloft. "But you can't even catch a fish?" Of course, ThunderClan couldn't catch a fish as well as RiverClan. But the idea amused her nonetheless. Feeling him sink slightly, Sleepypaw rolled her eyes. "Paddle harder, Stormstar." She quipped, grabbing his scruff to help him to a spot in the river that he could stand. "Can't have you lose a life to the river, can we?"

He might as well have been a boulder the way he seemed to sink to the bottom, kicking and barely feeling sand beneath his toes, his head floating precariously over the water. Stormpaw wouldn't quite say it, but he was thankful for the she-cats help, and had been shocked by how tired he'd been from the short swim by the time he'd made his way back to the shore - on ThunderClan's side, he duly noticed, but didn't seem to entertain the thought long. He spent some time at least trying to splash her back, getting a little better with practice.

"Eight more lives where that came from," he joked with a low chuckle, but was quick to shake the water out of his pelt - for all the good it did. The evening breeze was especially chilly and harsh against him. "Maybe we could practice fish again some other time? I mean, you can keep it if you want for your clan, but - You make it look so easy!" He had to know the secret.
